Headline urban inflation saw a significant rise to 6.6% last month, up from <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a7ce0952-23a6-4e3a-8296-21071df079fa\">5.7% in August<\/a>. This is the highest annual inflation rate since January 2020, when it <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/7d516919-c014-4ca0-80eb-af55172d83bd\">recorded 7.2%<\/a>. On a monthly basis, headline inflation rose by 1.1% following August\u2019s 0.1% rise.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-03\"><\/a> <strong>#2- The World Bank is more optimistic about Egypt\u2019s GDP this FY:<\/strong> Egypt\u2019s economy is expected to grow 5.0% in FY2021-2022, up from the 3.3% registered in FY2020-2021, according to the World Bank\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/openknowledge.worldbank.org\/bitstream\/handle\/10986\/36318\/9781464817984.pdf\">October 2021 MENA economic update (pdf)<\/a>. The World Bank\u2019s forecast marks an upward revision from its <a href=\"https:\/\/openknowledge.worldbank.org\/bitstream\/handle\/10986\/35275\/9781464816994.pdf?sequence=6&isAllowed=y\">April economic update<\/a>, when it said Egypt\u2019s GDP would grow at a 4.5% clip during the current fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The region\u2019s GDP per capita is expected to inch up by a mere 1.1%<\/strong> \u2014 a rebound from the 5.4% contraction registered in 2020 and an upward revision from the 0.6% the World Bank had penciled in back in April.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#3- MIH could IPO in 2H2022:<\/strong> Misr Ins. Holding (MIH) is looking to offer 25% of its subsidiary Misr Life Ins. in an EGX IPO during the second half of 2022, depending on market conditions, MIH Chairman Basel El Hini told <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3mKY8Ma\">Al Mal<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/b6479909-3227-4b09-b323-f50021ec4c33\">El Hini had previously said<\/a> that the IPO would happen by the end of this year or early next year. Enterprise is currently trying to reach out to MIH or Misr Life Ins. to confirm the news.<\/p>\n<p><strong>^^We\u2019ll cover these storie<\/strong>s and more in tomorrow\u2019s <strong>EnterpriseAM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>** CATCH UP QUICK <\/strong>on the top stories from today\u2019s <strong>EnterpriseAM<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fuel prices are up by as much as 3.7%:<\/strong> The government\u2019s fuel pricing committee <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/390900ee-1b5c-47ff-89a3-2a7cc122897e\">raised the price<\/a> at the nation\u2019s pumps by EGP 0.25 on Friday as global oil and gas prices spike.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Retail subscription period for e-Finance\u2019s IPO kicks off: <\/strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/981b7143-fd5f-4c5d-af04-adc6370c48bb\">subscription period<\/a> for the retail offering of 1.61% of e-Finance (25.78 mn shares) will run until the close of the trading session on 17 October. The company could announce on Tuesday how it will price the offering.<\/li>\n<li><strong>MPs are pushing back against the capital gains tax: <\/strong>House Planning and Budgeting Committee Secretary Abdelmoneim Emam <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/5ba26933-d9ec-412a-b7a5-dbcc9c02b840\">has handed a briefing request<\/a> to the house speaker in a bid to sway lawmakers away from reintroducing capital gains tax on the EGX with the argument that it would be tantamount to dual taxation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-02\"><\/a> <strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD- As with Egypt, inflation continues to be the big worry abroad <\/strong>as continued supply chain disruptions are driving policy makers and analysts to conclude that inflation is set to continue. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-10-09\/central-bankers-spooked-by-signs-inflation-lingering-for-longer?srnd=premium-middle-east&sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg Economics<\/a> is forecasting that central banks in Brazil, Norway, South Korea and New Zealand (who have all raised rates this year) will likely continue to do so well into 2022 as inflation is expected to linger on. High on the list of countries likely to raise rates is the UK, which is reeling from an energy crisis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some, including the Fed, could take the long view and simply not move at all. <\/strong>The US Fed might have its hands tied as it scrambles to fight high inflation, as tightening isn\u2019t likely to help this time around, co-chief investment officer at Bridgewater Associates, the world\u2019s largest hedge fund, told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/57ed92ab-994b-4fed-b422-518a0562c698\">Financial Times<\/a>. \u201cIf there is inflation, the Fed is in a box because the tightening won\u2019t really do much to reduce inflation unless they do a lot of it, because it is supply driven,\u201d Prince told the salmon-colored paper. Excessive tightening isn\u2019t the preferred route as it tends to drive down financial markets, he added. This means policymakers will be more likely to tolerate inflation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In addition to supply chain worries, the Fed also has to contend with a<\/strong> <strong>sluggish growth in<\/strong><strong> US jobs<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong>which had lagged for the second consecutive month, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/10\/08\/september-jobs-report.html\">latest jobs report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let\u2019s hope that\u2019s the case as<\/strong> <strong>bond yields in the states are already on the rise: <\/strong>A more accommodative Fed is good news for our debt market. This time around, however, we\u2019re yet to see how this plays out as ten-year US treasury yields have actually climbed up over the weekend and crossed the 1.6%-mark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/sharp-rise-brings-treasury-yields-near-spring-highs-11633727270?mod=hp_lead_pos1\">for the first time since June<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>These concerns will likely impact how markets open tomorrow<\/strong>, as inflation and supply chain concerns have been wreaking havoc on markets <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/11521b3f-57e8-41c8-98d5-e62e7091ce79\">last week<\/a> with European and US equities closing in the red.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-04\"><\/a> <strong>And earnings season might not save equities this time: <\/strong>Inflation, supply chain worries, shortages and the energy crisis are leading analysts to forecast weaker earnings this quarter, writes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-10-09\/stock-investors-fret-supply-chain-woes-could-knock-earnings?srnd=premium-middle-east&sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a>. Citigroup\u2019s Global Earnings Revision Index is sliding dangerously close to negative territory, a steep plunge considering May of this year saw it rise to an all-time high. Meanwhile, Bloomberg Intelligence data is projecting S&P 500 firms\u2019 earnings to climb 28% in the third quarter \u2014 down from 94% in the previous quarter, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-10-09\/profit-panacea-is-badly-needed-in-this-stressed-out-stock-market?sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strong earnings have rescued equities six times in a row, with stocks rising in response to companies\u2019 strong results.<\/strong> \u201cAlmost all segments of the economy that are not pure service or pure technology driven will be struggling with supply-chain issues for a long time,\u201d one investment firm head told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-10-09\/stock-investors-fret-supply-chain-woes-could-knock-earnings?sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Not even banks are immune from the earnings storm<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/73a669c7-a65d-4993-a5d8-f52e019f71d7\">FT<\/a> reports. Most Wall Street lenders are also facing a margins squeeze, having spent the summer raising wages as they fight each other for talent, and hiking tech costs as they fight the fintech sector for the future of banking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But hey, there\u2019s a silver lining as there\u2019s some good news on the global chip shortage: <\/strong>The price of semiconductors raw materials, mainly silicon, is expected to fall as chip manufacturing hubs, including Malaysia, restart production, writes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-10-09\/stock-investors-fret-supply-chain-woes-could-knock-earnings?srnd=premium-middle-east&sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a>.
