It\u2019s the first of the month.\u201d <\/strong>And already it\u2019s looking very busy, with some major finance news at home, while the world seems occupied with COP26 and Fed day.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"tldr-story-02\" class=\"content-anchor\"><\/a> Before we dive into them, <strong>here are dates for some key news triggers as we enter<\/strong><strong> November:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>PMI:<\/strong> November\u2019s purchasing managers\u2019 indexes for Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE will land this Wednesday, November 3;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Foreign reserves:<\/strong> October\u2019s foreign reserves figures will be out sometime this week;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inflation:<\/strong> Inflation figures for October will be released next Wednesday, 10 November;<\/li>\n<li><strong>There\u2019s no MPC meeting this month <\/strong>\u2014 the central bank will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbe.org.eg\/en\/MonetaryPolicy\/Pages\/MPCMeetingSchedule.aspx\">next meet on 16 December<\/a> to review interest rates for the final time this year. The CBE has yet to issue its MPC calendar for 2022.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><a id=\"tldr-story-01\" class=\"content-anchor\"><\/a> <strong>THE BIG STORIES TODAY- <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>FRA is endorsing SPACs in Egypt:<\/strong> The Financial Regulatory Authority has given the green light to a proposal to allow the establishment and licensing in Egypt of companies created with the sole purpose of raising capital through an IPO to acquire or merge with another company (<a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a6ab3251-641a-4e2c-aa00-6b8486d10c68\">SPAC<\/a>s), the FRA announced in a <a href=\"https:\/\/fra.gov.eg\/fra_news\/%D9%84%D8%A3%D9%88%D9%84-%D9%85%D8%B1%D8%A9-%D9%81%D9%89-%D9%85%D8%B5%D8%B1-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%AD-%D8%A8%D8%AA%D8%A3%D8%B3%D9%8A%D8%B3-%D9%88%D8%AA%D8%B1%D8%AE%D9%8A%D8%B5-%D8%B4%D8%B1\/\">statement<\/a> today. This appears for now to simply be an official endorsement, with the FRA looking to issue regulations that allow them at some point down the line, the statement reads. Egyptian SPACs would be subject to the Capital Markets Act, and the authority will later issue new listing rules governing securities related to these companies, FRA head Mohamed Omran said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Over in startup land, last mile delivery startup ShipBlue has raised USD 2.4 mn<\/strong> in a seed round led by Saudi Arabia\u2019s Nama Ventures, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/10\/31\/shipblu-bags-2-4m-for-its-e-commerce-and-fulfilment-service-in-egypt\/\">TechCrunch<\/a> reports. Though the founders did not specify how the funds would be deployed, one of the company\u2019s founders Ali Nasser says he wants ShipBlu\u2019s network and infrastructure to span 99% of Egypt within the next couple of months.<\/p>\n<p><strong>^^ We\u2019ll have more<\/strong> on these stories and others in tomorrow\u2019s <strong>EnterpriseAM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"tldr-story-08\" class=\"content-anchor\"><\/a> <strong>ALSO HAPPENING TODAY-<\/strong> <strong>Gov\u2019t stipulated minimum charges at the nation\u2019s hotels came into effect: <\/strong>All five-star hotels must now charge a minimum of USD 40 per night, while four-star establishments must charge at least USD 28 per night, according to minimum rates set by the government <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/38a0aa7e-6bfb-4d8a-b4a6-fa2b37a2301b\">in April<\/a>. Putting a floor under pricing has been on policymakers\u2019 agendas since 2017 as part of a series of measures to help boost the then-suffering industry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt will take over the chairmanship of the African Union\u2019s Peace and Security Council <\/strong><strong>today<\/strong>, succeeding Mozambique, the Foreign Ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MFAEgypt\/posts\/189582790018242\">said<\/a> yesterday. All eyes will be on the Fed\u2019s Open Market Committee\u2019s decision on whether it will pull the trigger on scaling back its program, which Fed chief Jay Powell has <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/43b8fb8c-adc9-4a5d-83c2-fba569faf89c\">previously said<\/a> could happen in November.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Fed has mostly been saying that inflation in the US is \u201ctransitory,\u201d<\/strong> but warned <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a3d6a652-7929-453d-b28b-1bf4c604df88\">in September<\/a> that the unexpected persistence of supply-side disruptions amid strong demand across several sectors is driving up prices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inflation who? <\/strong>The Fed meets a week after fears of sustained inflation took a back seat in the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8dc1a09f-6579-49cd-baa1-2dc06b43aa8e\">European Central Bank<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/9960784b-94f2-435a-af19-a204ecac1df4\">Central Bank of Egypt<\/a>\u2019s decisions to keep rates on hold. The CBE\u2019s move to leave rates unchanged was partially grounded in the importance of protecting Egypt\u2019s portfolio inflows by maintaining Egypt\u2019s position as the provider of one of the world\u2019s highest real interest rates. Portfolio inflows will be all the more important should the Fed decide to raise rates or if local inflation rises again \u2014 each of which could translate into volatility here at home. Rising US rates could spell challenges for emerging markets as investors are tempted to sell-down riskier assets in favor of higher-yielding US treasuries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>That said, i<\/strong><strong>nvestors appear to not be buying policymakers\u2019 \u201ctransitory inflation\u201d narrative <\/strong><strong>anymore<\/strong>, with many banking on an earlier than anticipated hike in interest rates as energy prices and supply bottlenecks continue to keep the economy in a chokehold, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e8fd411b-6adc-4404-9d72-88fc7f9f475e\">the Financial Times<\/a> reports. As a result, bond buyers are positioning themselves for a potential earlier tapering and a rise in borrowing costs, ramping up their purchases of short-dated debt. Short-dated bonds have already seen their yields rising, with yields on the US two-year benchmark hitting 0.55% over the weekend, up from 0.21% last month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But penciling in a sooner hike could end up acting as a self-fulfilling prophecy<\/strong>, with one analyst telling the Financial Times that \u201cinvestors are testing central banks\u2019 resolve that all this is temporary and forcing their hands.\u201d This comes as the US Federal Reserve and the Reserve Bank of Australia are both expected to announce a dial-back of their quantitative easing programs when they meet this week, while the Bank of England is expected to hike rates from record lows.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD- The COP26 climate summit in Glasgow opened with a sober <\/strong><strong>warning from the UK\u2019s Boris Johnson<\/strong>, that drastic action would need to be taken by world leaders \u201cif we are going to prevent COP26 from being a failure.\u201d His statements come after a <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/40c1f28e-7588-4f32-9e00-4c054f19315a\">disappointing G20 summit<\/a> in Rome directly preceding the conference, in which the world\u2019s 20 largest economies were unable to reach a consensus about how to limit global warming to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/sr15\/\">1.5\u00b0C<\/a> \u2014 one of the goals set out in the landmark 2015 Paris Climate conference.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So far the US has already pointed the finger at China<\/strong>, the world\u2019s largest emitter of greenhouse gases, with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/11\/01\/cop26-follow-live-as-world-leaders-meet-in-glasgow-for-climate-summit.html\">telling reporters<\/a> the country must commit to more drastic cuts in its emissions. China\u2019s Xi Jinping will not be attending the summit, and is due to send a written message instead, while Russia\u2019s Vladimir Putin is also sitting out the conference, and will send a recorded video message.<\/p>\n<p><strong>President Abdel Fattah El Sisi is among the world leaders in Glasgow today<\/strong>, where he is expected to highlight Egypt\u2019s readiness to host the COP27 in 2022, according to an official <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sis.gov.eg\/Story\/159798\/President-El-Sisi%E2%80%99s-visit-to-Britain-to-Participate-in-UN-Climate-Change-Conference-of-the-Parties?lang=en-us\">statement<\/a>.
