Egypt became a net exporter of natural gas and LNG in 2018 after the discovery of the supergiant Zohr gas field \u2014 the Mediterranean\u2019s largest \u2014 allowed us to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/09\/30\/egypt-ends-natural-gas-imports\/\">pull the plug<\/a> on imports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Almost 1.7k companies have <\/strong><strong>applied to join the fourth phas<\/strong><strong>e of FinMin\u2019s export <\/strong><strong>subsidy arrears payment program<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3mfd7hP\">Finance Ministry said in a statement<\/a>. The ministry opened the door for ceramic, automobile and pharma exporters to join the program\u2019s fourth phase, the application deadline for which was at the end of November, according to the statement. The <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/de9ff00f-8f74-455f-9e89-06cb20d091bf\">program<\/a> allows exporters to receive overdue subsidies in a single payment, rather than in installments over four to five years, in return for a 15% haircut. As of last month, some 2.5k exporters had<a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/2c5bed00-e9f8-4c28-bcd0-32e989d75c73\">received a combined EGP 30 bn<\/a> in overdue subsidies since the program launched in November last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other things we\u2019re keeping an eye on this morning:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Foods produced in freezones<\/strong> for import or export will now have to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3yR8sI9\">pass<\/a><\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3yR8sI9\">inspection<\/a><\/strong> by the Egyptian Food Safety Authority.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Egyptian company trademarks<\/strong> registered with the Internal Trade Development Authority\u2019s database can now be found on the<strong> European Union\u2019s Intellectual Property Office\u2019s online database<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/alborsaanews.com\/2021\/12\/18\/1491615\">Al Borsa<\/a> reported.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Natural gas exports hit 4.6 bn cubic meters in FY2020-2021, up 142% y-o-y, according to Capmas figures (pdf).
