Some EGP 2.03 bn worth of shares traded hands before the closing bell, which is 60.2% above the 90-day trailing average, with local investors accounting for the bulk of the activity. The index is still down 16% YTD, however.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO- Chimera Investments\u2019 EGP 384.8 mn acquisition of a majority stake in Beltone Financial<\/strong><strong> is now official<\/strong> after Chimera\u2019s mandatory tender offer for Beltone was <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2022\/8\/egx-beltone_1600.jpg\">executed today<\/a> on the EGX. Chimera has acquired a 56% stake in the company, buying <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8d08b767-4583-4e55-bec6-5c9c8aca0637\">259.1 mn shares of Beltone<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-02\"><\/a> <strong>The Bank of England just delivered its steepest rate increase in 27 years<\/strong>, deciding today to raise interest rates by 50 bps to 1.75%, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bankofengland.co.uk\/monetary-policy-report\/2022\/august-2022\">a statement<\/a> from its monetary policy committee. The central bank pointed to spiraling inflation \u2014 which hit 9.4% in June, \u201cwell above\u201d the bank\u2019s 2% target \u2014 as the key reason for its decision, but warned that the UK is likely to fall into a recession over the next year.
