<\/a> Not all doom and gloom on Planet Startup: <\/strong>Kashat<\/a>, the region\u2019s first provider of nano-loans, has landed funding from both Plug & Play<\/a> and Launch Africa<\/a> as part of its ongoing fundraising drive. Kashat uses machine learning to underwrite credit, providing fast turnaround on productive, short-term loans.<\/p>\n

The news comes amid increasing reports of a slowdown in venture funding for startups<\/strong> (see this morning\u2019s What\u2019s Next, below) and as the high-profile failure of Capiter<\/a>, the non-bank financial services outfit, has sent chills through the community.<\/p>\n

What they said: <\/strong>\u201cWe are happy to continue to back Kashat in their mission to provide easy lending to everyday Egyptians,\u201d said Launch Africa Managing Partner Zachariah George. \u201cWe are proud to back team Kashat as they cross the 100k transaction mark. Egyptians need productive liquidity intervention \u2014 and I trust Kashat will be a relief for those in need,\u201d Plug and Play\u2019s Diego Arias Garc\u00eda said. Plug and Play bills itself as one of the most active venture capitalists in Silicon Valley.<\/p>\n

BACKGROUND- <\/strong>Launch Africa last backed Kashat<\/a> in a private round<\/a> a year ago, a couple of months before senior NCR exec Marija Zivanovic-Smith joined Kashat<\/a> as an independent board member.
