{"id":548446,"date":"2022-08-09T03:45:37","date_gmt":"2022-08-09T03:45:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2022\/08\/09\/cfc-group-to-build-usd-400-mn-industrial-complex-in-qena-under-the-new-regional-industrial-partnership\/"},"modified":"2022-08-09T03:45:37","modified_gmt":"2022-08-09T03:45:37","slug":"cfc-group-to-build-usd-400-mn-industrial-complex-in-qena-under-the-new-regional-industrial-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2022\/08\/09\/cfc-group-to-build-usd-400-mn-industrial-complex-in-qena-under-the-new-regional-industrial-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"CFC Group to build USD 400 mn industrial complex in Qena under the new regional industrial partnership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-01\"><\/a> <strong>Emirati<\/strong><strong> fertilizer company <\/strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cfcfertilizers.com\/\">CFC Group<\/a><\/strong><strong> will establish an industrial complex in Qena <\/strong><strong>Governorate<\/strong> under the new <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/69b76229-000b-4d65-90e9-9267d1f9903d\">joint industrial partnership<\/a> between Egypt, the UAE, Jordan and Bahrain, senior figures in the company told us yesterday, confirming information originally reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3zGom8T\">Al Mal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Qena complex: <\/strong><strong>The firm will invest USD 400 mn in the project, which <\/strong><strong>will create <\/strong><strong>1.5k new jobs<\/strong> as it produces 200k tons of fertilizers, 400k tons of animal feed and 700k tons of phosphoric acid each year, Group CEO Ahmed Khalifa told us. <strong>C<\/strong><strong>onstruction is scheduled to begin in 1Q 2023<\/strong> in Qena\u2019s Al Haw industrial area, with production set to start in 1Q 2025, Khalifa said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CFC will self-finance the project:<\/strong> CFC Group is putting up the USD 400 mn capital for the project, which will be designed by German company ThyssenKrupp, Thierry Sansonetti, CFC Fert\u2019s managing director, told us. Local fertilizer firm Evergrow \u2014 where Khalifa serves as vice chairman \u2014 is onboard as a technical advisor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The company has set up an Egypt arm specifically for the project: <\/strong>The Dubai-based group has been around since 2016 but has set up its Egyptian subsidiary, CFC Fert, to build the new complex, Sansonetti said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is the first project chosen under the <\/strong><strong>industrial partnership<\/strong> <strong>between Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, and Bahrain<\/strong>, and was selected because it meets the objectives of all four countries involved, Group CEO Ahmed Khalifa told us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REFRESHER- <\/strong>The partnership will facilitate bns of USD of investment to develop industrial production in the four countries. The UAE is contributing USD 10 bn to the initiative, which will be managed by Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund ADQ, while other projects will be financed by the private sector. The countries in July identified a number of projects in the food, agriculture, pharma and fertilizers sectors that will receive USD 3.4 bn of investment in the first phase of the partnership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jordan + Egypt will supply the raw materials:<\/strong> Jordan will provide 200k tons of potash \u2014 a raw material used in the manufacture of fertilizers \u2014 while Egypt will supply 1 mn tons of phosphate, Khalifa said. \u201cInstead of exporting the phosphate [as a raw material], the project enables us to continue the production cycle for the raw material and create a final product at an affordable cost that we can export at better prices,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The products will head to Egypt, the UAE, Bahrain and elsewhere:<\/strong> A fifth of the complex\u2019s output will be earmarked for the Egyptian market and the remainder will be exported, with priority given to the UAE, Bahrain and Jordan. Calcium chloride produced at the facility will be exported to the UAE and Bahrain, to meet the two countries\u2019 oil and gas sectors\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IN CONTEXT- Fertilizer production has long been a key local industry \u2014 and it\u2019s never been more important. <\/strong>The regional industrial partnership aims to bolster the countries involved against supply chain disruptions and spiraling prices, after global economic challenges exacerbated by war in Ukraine sent fertilizer prices soaring and put food security concerns in the spotlight.
