We have a moderately heavy news day for <\/strong><strong>you<\/strong> \u2014 where the biggest business story is unfolding in Washington, DC \u2014 and plenty of housekeeping to which to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s start with the housekeeping:<\/p>\n<p><strong>PSA #1- Brace yourselves for what could be a third day of dusty winds<\/strong> in Cairo and Alexandria as well as along coastal areas, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ema.gov.eg\/posts\/350623703762870\">national weather service warns<\/a>. Our favourite weather app sees the mercury slowly rising in the capital city from 28\u00b0C today to 33\u00b0C all next week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PSA #2- We have so many holidays coming up that there are (if you squint) just five <\/strong><strong>workdays left through Sunday, 8 May <\/strong>(six, if you count today).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>This coming Monday, 25 April, will be a national holiday<\/strong> in observance of Sinai Liberation Day and Sham El Nessim, the Madbouly cabinet announced in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/383603250476768\">a statement<\/a> yesterday.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The entirety of the following week will be off:<\/strong> Cabinet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/383615447142215\">also confirmed<\/a> that the public sector will be on holiday from Saturday, 30 April, through Thursday, 5 May, in observance of Labor Day and Eid Al Fitr. Labor Day falls on Sunday, 1 May. Expect follow-on announcements for the private sector, banks and capital markets in the coming days.<\/li>\n<li><strong>What\u2019s next: Coptic Easter<\/strong> falls this year on Sunday, 24 April. It is typically a bank holiday, but not a national holiday (though it should be). We\u2019re keeping our eyes open for an announcement from the Central Bank of Egypt and the EGX on that front.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>PSA #3- Covid measures remain in place for Eid Al Fitr prayers: <\/strong>The Awqaf Ministry is <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/19be8f0f-54a6-4224-9080-a370f0a4ec49\">once again<\/a> limiting Eid Al Fitr prayers to \u201cmajor\u201d mosques and facilities at universities, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/383739800463113\">statement<\/a>. All the usual social distancing and masking measures apply. One thing has changed: Women\u2019s prayer halls will be open <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/78652920-24f8-4504-b17d-919759e24391\">as they have been<\/a> throughout this year\u2019s holy month, in contrast to last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PSA #4- There are two days left to file your ESG report: <\/strong>EGX-listed companies and all non-bank financial services outfits regardless of listing status need to<a href=\"https:\/\/fra.gov.eg\/custompdfs\/2481616-2\/\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/fra.gov.eg\/custompdfs\/2481616-2\/\">submit their first quarterly ESG questionnaire by this Wednesday, 20 April<\/a>. The investment plan \u2014 which Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly in March said was pending \u201cconstitutional procedures\u201d to move forward \u2014 came as part of Gulf efforts to help shore up our finances amid global fallout from Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine. While Europe and Central Asia are unsurprisingly set to see the biggest impact, the international lender will also be cutting growth projections for other wealthy economies and \u201cmany\u201d developing countries because of spiking food and energy prices, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/world-bank-says-war-cut-global-growth-boosts-financing-target-2022-04-18\/\">Reuters<\/a> quoted Malpass as saying.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The WB will also be setting a new USD 170 bn \u201ccrisis financing target,\u201d <\/strong>Malpass said. The funding is set to be disbursed starting this month until June next year, with USD 50 bn to be allocated in the next three months. It will be targeted at countries taking in significant numbers of Ukrainian refugees and those (like us) facing food supply issues. Emergency financing and debt relief for developing countries are key themes at this week\u2019s spring meetings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We\u2019ll find out today what the IMF thinks is in store for the Egyptian and the global <\/strong><strong>economy<\/strong> when it releases its World Economic Outlook. Expect the Fund to downgrade its growth projections for both Egypt and the world. <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/4e675696-18e3-408c-91de-5e3665a8d6bf\">In January<\/a> the IMF forecast the Egyptian economy to grow at a 5.6% clip in FY 2021-2022 and penciled in 4.4% growth for the global economy. <strong>The IMF will publish the report <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imf.org\/en\/Publications\/WEO\/Issues\/2022\/04\/19\/world-economic-outlook-april-2022\">here<\/a><\/strong><strong> later today. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>AMBER LIGHT- The Wall Street Journal is sounding a note of caution about the Fed\u2019s <\/strong><strong>ability <\/strong><strong>to manage what could be around the corner <\/strong>for the US economy, warning that the US central bank has \u201cnever successfully fixed a problem like this\u201d \u2014 namely tamping down inflation without creating significant unemployment. \u201cDuring the past 80 years, the Fed has never lowered inflation as much as it is setting out to do now \u2014 by 4 percentage points \u2014 without causing recession,\u201d the Journal notes. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/inflation-jobs-fed-recession-economy-11650294297?mod=hp_lead_pos9\">Read the full story here.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD this morning: Russia has begun a new offensive in eastern <\/strong><strong>Ukraine <\/strong>and missiles have fallen on Lviv, about 60 km from Poland in the west, for the first time.
