<\/a> Global M&A has fallen to its lowest level since 2020<\/strong> as soaring inflation, the conflict in Ukraine and tighter regulations put the brakes on a surge of dealmaking activity, the Financial Times<\/a> reports. A little over USD 1 tn worth of transactions were agreed in 1Q 2022, down 23% from the same period in 2021, according to Refinitiv data, which shows that every region in the world saw a decline in activity. The biggest acquisition of the quarter was Microsoft\u2019s USD 75 bn takeover of games publisher Activision.<\/p>\n

Private equity is the outlier:<\/strong> Flushed with cash, private equity firms spent a record USD 288 bn during the quarter, up 17% from last year, the data shows.<\/p>\n
