The statement did not provide further details on the planned investments or the exact timeline. The state privatization program has also been scaled back due to the war, with the government now aiming to offer shares in four or five companies this year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Startup funding bonanza:<\/strong> Cairo-based fantasy football startup Eksab has <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/91dc8e76-9e9a-4615-b819-ebf36961fca6\">closed a USD 3 mn<\/a> seed round led by Africa-focused VC firm 4DX Ventures, with participation from Darwazah Capital, Golden Palm Investments, P1 Ventures, and other angel investors. Separately, Egyptian healthtech startup <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/f831a7e5-3ec6-49ae-aa0c-71be6ec08815\">Otida has raised USD 340k<\/a> in a pre-seed round led by Texas-based VC Lofty, Flat6Labs, Afropreneurs, Jedar Capital, OQAL, UI Investments and others. Also, Jordanian digital healthcare platform Altibbi has raised USD 44 mn in a series B funding round and will use the funding in part to expand in Egypt and Saudi Arabia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>France is lending us EUR 777 mn for the Metro Line 1 revamp:<\/strong> We <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/381f6db8-2a18-499c-ab1e-e6ecbc572fae\">yesterday signed a loan agreement<\/a> with the French government for EUR 776.9 mn to fund the 55 new trains for Cairo Metro Line 1 being supplied by French manufacturer Alstom. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>HAPPENING NOW- <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-03\"><\/a> <strong>The first edition of <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/MENA-CW2022\">MENA Climate Week<\/a><\/strong><strong> is ongoing in Dubai. <\/strong>The UAE-organized event is designed to drive regional and global climate action by bringing together ministers, high-level speakers, and leading figures, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zawya.com\/en\/press-release\/events-and-conferences\/mena-climate-week-2022-kicks-off-hosted-by-the-uae-for-the-first-time-in-the-region-uviy1x9e\">press release<\/a> picked up by Zawya. The outcomes of the talks and sessions will \u201coptimize the environment for COP27 next November\u201d while also paving the way for UAE to host COP28 in 2023. The Climate Week kicked off yesterday and will run until Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A number of Egyptian ministers (past and present) are speaking at panels today:<\/strong> Finance Minister Mohamed Maait spoke at a panel looking at climate strategies and finance needed for an equitable transition, while Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad was a speaker at a separate panel on \u201cintegrated approaches for climate resilience in the MENA region.\u201d Former Investment Minister and current IMF Executive Director Mahmoud Mohieldin \u2014 named Egypt\u2019s climate champion \u2014 is sitting on a high-level panel discussing \u201cAccelerating Implementation in this Critical Decade\u201d while also participating in the Marrakech Partnership Implementation Lab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Most of the summit\u2019s events are available to watch online. <\/strong>You can check out all of the sessions of the day <a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/MENA-CW2022\/daily-programme\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-04\"><\/a> <strong>Russia and Ukraine appear to be making headway in peace talks held in Istanbul today<\/strong>, with Moscow promising to \u201cdrastically\u201d cut back on its military operations around the Ukrainian capital and Chernihiv to make space for the negotiations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/ukraine-sets-ceasefire-goal-new-russia-talks-breakthrough-looks-distant-2022-03-29\/\">Reuters<\/a> reports. Ukraine\u2019s proposal, meanwhile, would see it adopt a neutral status that would ensure it would not become a member of any alliances nor host foreign military bases on its territory. Kyiv\u2019s proposal also includes international security assurances \u2014 which it suggested could be provided by Israel, Canada, Poland, and Turkey \u2014 that would guard it against any attacks. The fate of Crimea, which Russia annexed back in 2014, would be determined in a \u201c15-year consultation period\u201d that would be contingent on a full ceasefire.
