The ministry took the issuance to market despite the spillover from the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the sale makes Egypt the first in the region to issue JPY-denominated bonds in the Japanese market, the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO- The EGP continued strengthening against the greenback today<\/strong>, trading at 18.25 versus 18.42 yesterday. The EGP is now down 16.5% since the start of the week, just a little bit above the 15-16% overvaluation range analysts had previously pegged. Bankers and analysts we\u2019ve spoken to have broadly been in agreement that the currency overshot following Monday\u2019s devaluation, and will continue to strengthen until it settles at its fair value.<\/p>\n<p><strong>** CATCH UP QUICK<\/strong> on the top stories from today\u2019s <strong>EnterpriseAM<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>It\u2019s official: The government has requested support from the IMF<\/strong> to mitigate the impact of the war in Ukraine on its economy. Sequence Ventures Executive Chairman Karim Helal has since informed us that the fund expects to reach its first close after Ramadan. <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/b1108c6e-2527-4d6f-8bcb-0f02d9c9f68b\">The story<\/a> has been updated on our website.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-02\"><\/a> <strong>Ukrainian President Zelensky is lobbying for full EU membership and more NATO<\/strong><strong> support<\/strong>, saying in a recorded speech to the Swedish parliament that Ukraine has \u201cshown that we deserve to be a fully fledged member of the EU\u201d by fighting against Russia \u201cfor Europe\u2019s security,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/zelenskiy-says-ukraine-deserves-be-full-member-eu-2022-03-24\/\">Reuters<\/a> reports. The Ukrainian president also asked NATO to send more military assistance to help stave off Russia\u2019s invasion, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/invasion-milestone-ukraine-urges-solidarity-western-leaders-gather-2022-03-24\/\">repeated his request<\/a> for a no-fly zone over Ukraine, despite Western governments so far refusing to take this step.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The requests come as NATO, G7 nations, and the EU are each holding emergency meetings today<\/strong>, with US President Joe Biden attending all three in a show of support for Ukraine, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/my-europe\/2022\/03\/24\/joe-biden-lands-in-brussels-to-send-putin-a-clear-message-of-western-unity\">EuroNews<\/a>. Biden is expected to hold a news conference at the end of the day to recap his meetings, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc10.com\/article\/news\/nation-world\/ukraine\/biden-nato-meeting-europe\/507-cc638749-db32-4245-a3f0-823fa04a6f49\">the Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is extending his term for another year to hold down the fort<\/strong> as the war in Ukraine trudges on, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/stoltenberg-extend-nato-term-by-one-year-amid-ukraine-war-say-reports-2022-03-24\/\">Reuters<\/a>, citing the Norwegian press. Stoltenberg was meant to take up the post of central bank governor in his native Norway after his term expires with NATO this coming October.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, the UK came out with a new laundry list of sanctions against Russia today<\/strong>, with 65 new measures targeting \u201ca range of key strategic industries and individuals,\u201d including Russian Railways, a Russian defense company that produces drones, six banks, and the stepdaughter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/foreign-secretary-announces-65-new-russian-sanctions-to-cut-off-vital-industries-fuelling-putins-war-machine\">a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And there could be even more sanctions coming:<\/strong> The trio of high-level meetings today feature discussions on ramping up sanctions and ways to mitigate the economic and security fallout spreading across Europe and the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MARKET WATCH-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Russian equities and the rouble appear to have shaken all of this off<\/strong>, with stocks rallying in the first day of trading on the Moscow Exchange in nearly a month. The exchange\u2019s benchmark index rose 11% at the start of trading before paring gains to end the day up 4.4%, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/quote\/IMOEX.ME\/\">market data<\/a>. Trading restrictions on foreigners and short selling remain in place, but the overall sentiment appears to be positive, \u201csupported by the confidence that the finance ministry will buy stocks,\u201d BCS Brokerage said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/rouble-recovers-further-jittery-stock-trading-resumes-after-month-long-hiatus-2022-03-24\/\">Reuters<\/a>. Equity performance has been mixed, however, as energy firms saw significant gains while banking and airline shares sank. The rouble also rallied today, rising 2% to continue its recovery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oil has been see-sawing today as investors chewed over supply risks and the<\/strong><strong> expectation of more sanctions on Moscow<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-03-23\/oil-rally-pauses-as-investors-weigh-russian-supply-china-demand\">Bloomberg<\/a>reported.
