The USD rebound could be linked to the recent <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/2d6e7a4e-7306-476c-8092-75ace49c4908\/egyptian-banks-are-loosening-up-fx-restrictions\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">loosening<\/a> of FX restrictions, which resulted in the use of greenback surpluses to meet importers\u2019 requests for production.<\/p><p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Where is the EGP headed? <\/strong>The country\u2019s currency is <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expected<\/a> to hold recent gains, trading between EGP 48-50 to the greenback in the near-term, provided portfolio inflows remain strong over the coming months, a recent Fitch Solutions\u2019 research unit BMI showed. Meanwhile, Capital Economics\u2019 James Swanston recently <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/be353f00-5517-42a7-8f24-88780968db9a\/most-analysts-see-the-cbe-cutting%253cmark%253e-rates%253c%2Fmark%253e-this-week--enterpriseam-poll\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">told us<\/a> that the EGP is forecast to gradually weaken over the rest of this year and into 2026. However, any depreciation is expected to be moderate and reflecting a rebound in the USD and not weakness of our external position and currency.<\/p><p class=\"tag-border-left\">SUKUK WATCH- <\/p><p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Weekly sukuk roundup:<\/strong> The yield to maturity on our sovereign sukuk rose to 7.73% last Thursday, a notable increase from 7.32% recorded on Wednesday \u2014 the lowest level of the week, according to the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2025\/8\/1605.pdf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">weekly report (pdf)<\/a> about the performance of our sovereign sukuk.<\/p><p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Our sukuk at a glance: <\/strong>Egypt plans to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/566a1889-71cf-44b3-a938-b935c5a47e7e\/gov%25e2%2580%2599t-looking-to-issue-usd-1-bn%253cmark%253e-sukuk%253c%2Fmark%253e-issuance-in-the-international-market-as-early-as-september\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">tap<\/a> the international debt markets with a new USD 1 bn sovereign sukuk tranche by September or October, we were told earlier this month. The figure also surpassed the peak of USD 31.4 bn recorded in FY 2020-2021 pre-FX crisis. In contrast, FY 2023-2024 saw remittances come in at only USD 22.1 bn, as remittances were flowing through unofficial channels. .<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER-<\/strong> Remittance inflows began returning to official channels after the float of the EGP back in March 2024, which effectively put an end to the parallel market that had pushed remittance flows to unofficial channels.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>On a monthly basis, remittances hit the highest figure ever recorded for June<\/strong>, with a 40.7% y-o-y increase to USD 3.6 bn, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/56c93d8d-483b-4693-b687-ecc4afd58426\/%253cmark%253eremittances%253c%2Fmark%253e-reach-all-time-may-high\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">marking<\/a> 16 consecutive months of y-o-y remittance growth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Driving the growth:<\/strong> \u201cThe significant increase in remittances during the past fiscal year is partly attributed to a favorable base effect, as 2024 witnessed an exceptional dip in remittances due to the unstable exchange market and the wide gap between the official and parallel rates, which led many to transfer their money through unofficial channels,\u201d Professor of Economics Medhat Nafei told us.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Also helping: <\/strong>The improved working conditions for Egyptians in the Gulf, along with the continuation of major investment projects, and the rise in USD or SAR incomes, also contributed to the increased ability to remit money, Nafei added. The GCC is our biggest source of remittances, with most of the estimated <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=F1gCaDYqGqI\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">14 mn Egyptians working abroad<\/a> based in the Gulf. While not leading the region in terms of growth, Egypt\u2019s booming e-commerce sector, solid industrial base, growing tech sector, and strategic geographic position continue to \u201cdrive robust warehousing and logistics growth,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">(<strong>Tap or click the headline above to read this story with all of the links<\/strong> to our background as well as external sources.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Egypt currently has around 1.8k large warehouses and an additional 25k medium and<\/strong><strong> small facilities scattered nationwide<\/strong>, according to estimates from EGL.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Many of the new warehousing facilities are smarter and more efficient than before.<\/strong> Across key warehousing zones \u2014 namely Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Ain Sokhna, and around the Suez Canal \u2014 modern facilities are becoming increasingly technology-driven. This includes the integration of automation, robotics, AI-powered warehouse management systems, and IoT-enabled sensors, which \u201care transforming efficiency, visibility, and cost control,\u201d El Kady said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Logistic park builders are also responding to demand for more eco-friendly and <\/strong><strong>sustainable warehousing<\/strong>, with projects like Yanmu East Logistics Park \u2014 a JV between Hassan Allam Utilities and Kuwait\u2019s Agility Logistics Park \u2014 securing EDGE Advanced certification for its warehouses. Three of the park\u2019s warehouses have achieved the certification with savings of 49% in energy, 53% in water, and 59% in carbon emissions, giving warehouse occupants cheaper running costs and boasting rights to a greener supply chain, which can be important leverage in financing and other negotiations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The logistics sector is also expanding into new areas outside of traditional hubs. <\/strong>EGL identified <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tarboul.com\/about-tarboul\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Tarboul Industrial City<\/a> in the Eastern Desert south of Cairo as an agricultural logistics and trade hub for Upper Egypt that benefits from its proximity to Cairo and the Suez Canal.
