Journalists are preoccupied with yesterday\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-39359158\">terror attack outside the UK parliament in London<\/a>, which killed five and injured at least 40 (coverage in Speed Round, below), and suggestions that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/03\/22\/us\/politics\/devin-nunes-wiretapping-trump.html\">US intelligence may have \u201cincidentally\u201d picked up<\/a> communications of the Trump transition team.<\/p><p><strong>Ban on electronic devices in airplane cabins spreads: <\/strong>UK Department of Transport announced that the ban will be enforced on Saturday, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2017\/03\/22\/world\/europe\/ap-eu-britain-laptop-ban.html?_r=1&amp;mtrref=undefined&amp;gwh=DA26921FB6B0F45FFB4DBCDC64B2C81C&amp;gwt=pay\">AP<\/a>. Both Easyjet and British Airways will enforce by that day, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-39352133\">BBC<\/a> reports. \u201c[Easyjet] said passengers would face extra security checks and advised them to arrive early at their airport.\u201d The ban affects three Easyjet flights per day. Meanwhile, <strong>Emirates is going to let passengers use their devices until just about the moment before they board<\/strong> and then \u201cthe airline will then take the items for storage in the cargo hold until arrival,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-03-22\/emirates-to-let-travelers-keep-laptops-tablets-until-boarding\">Bloomberg reports<\/a>. The business news service also has a list of what it says are hacks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-03-22\/hacks-to-survive-a-20-hour-flight-without-a-laptop-or-tablet\">survive a flight without electronics<\/a> that boils down to paper books, paper notebooks and learn to like the in-flight entertainment system. (We\u2019d add, if you\u2019re not traveling with the kids, that you consider a sleep aid. Or ethanolic beverages. Just don\u2019t mix the two.)<\/p><p><strong>Why Homeland Security says the ban is in effect<\/strong>, per an emailed fact sheet: \u201cEvaluated intelligence indicates that terrorist groups continue to target commercial aviation and are aggressively pursuing innovative methods to undertake their attacks, to include smuggling explosive devices in various consumer items.\u201d<\/p><p><strong>Why the policy wonks say the ban is in effect: <\/strong>It\u2019s all about business, not terror, suggests a piece for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/monkey-cage\/wp\/2017\/03\/21\/trump-wont-allow-you-to-use-ipads-or-laptops-on-certain-airlines-heres-the-underlying-story\/?utm_term=.78b6b2dcbb5a\">Washington Post\u2019s Monkey Cage blog<\/a>. Specifically, part of the war between US airlines and GCC-based carriers that we\u2019ve discussed in the past. That number is expected to grow to 250 startups by 2020. Egypt is home to 16% of all fintech companies in the MENA region, but comes a far second to the UAE with 29% of all companies. The sector has managed to raise USD 100 mn in investments over the past decade, and expects to attract USD 50 mn in 2017 alone. Fintech investments globally have reached were estimated at USD 16.1 bn in 2016, down from USD 22.3 bn in 2015, though that downside doesn\u2019t appear to be reflected in the region. It is projected that e-commerce will grow to a USD 29 bn industry by 2020 in MENA.
