Capital Economics\u2019 Jason Tuvey says the move \u201cappears to be the result of pressure from the IMF,\u201d and global emerging markets icon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-05-22\/mobius-says-one-size-fits-all-imf-rate-advice-no-good-for-egypt\">Mark Mobius spoke for many of us here in Egypt when he called the rate hike \u201ca little bit premature\u201d<\/a> and asked \u201c<strong>Rates are so high now, how can a businessman survive?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p><p>With the rate hike winning the ire of the business community, <strong>IMF Mission chief to Egypt Chris <\/strong><strong>Jarvis came out with a statement in support of the CBE<\/strong>, telling <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alborsanews.com\/2017\/05\/23\/1025570\">Al Borsa<\/a> last evening that the move is in line with the government\u2019s goal to lower inflation. He added that the IMF has confidence in the central bank and its monetary policies and will continue to work with it on keeping inflation low.
