The body had already approved the budget late last month, but the legislation needed a final approval from the Egyptian Council of State before being sent back for a final vote. The Finance Ministry, eager to get the ball rolling on the budget (which is technically four days behind schedule) reportedly refused the House Health Committee request for an additional EGP 64 bn for healthcare.<\/p><p><strong>Approving the budget may be the final act of the current House session which is set to close by Wednesday<\/strong>, House speaker Ali Abdel Aal says, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shorouknews.com\/news\/view.aspx?cdate=03072017&amp;id=990663c1-fd39-49c7-ac13-f6c458e47546\">Al Shorouk<\/a>.<\/p><p><strong>It is perhaps not surprising that the House rushed through a number of legislative amendments<\/strong> to the <a href=\"http:\/\/gate.ahram.org.eg\/News\/1549012.aspx\">Personal Status Act<\/a>, the law governing the <a href=\"http:\/\/gate.ahram.org.eg\/News\/1549040.aspx\">National Human Rights Council<\/a>, and that for the <a href=\"http:\/\/gate.ahram.org.eg\/News\/1549048.aspx\">Supreme Antiquities Council<\/a>, news reports say. MPs also signed off on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shorouknews.com\/news\/view.aspx?cdate=03072017&amp;id=6c0da4b9-de20-486a-8117-a9efb913f55f\">KWD 100k (EGP 5.9 mn) grant<\/a> from the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development to finance an organic farm project in North Sinai.<\/p><p><strong>We are expecting an announcement that Egypt\u2019s FX reserves for June have continued to grow<\/strong> sometime this week, according to statements by Central Bank Governor Tarek Amer <a href=\"http:\/\/gate.ahram.org.eg\/News\/1548916.aspx\">picked by Ahram Gate<\/a>. Egypt\u2019s net FX reserves had reached USD 31.1 bn in May. Amer added that Egypt will be making another payment to the Paris Club this month.<\/p><p><strong>Qatar responds to Arab neighbors\u2019 demands<\/strong>: Qatar\u2019s Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Thani presented to Kuwait\u2019s Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah his country\u2019s response to the 13 demands set by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mofa.gov.qa\/en\/all-mofa-news\/details\/2017\/07\/03\/emir-of-kuwait-meets-foreign-minister\">according to a statement<\/a> that provides exactly zero details. Qatar has until the end of tomorrow to respond to the demands, which include shuttering Al Jazeera, or face the possibility of further sanctions.<\/p><p><strong>The laptop ban on flights to the US to be scrapped tomorrow?<\/strong> That\u2019s what we\u2019re hearing from Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Eksi who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-security-turkey-idUSKBN19O2DB\">made the announcement<\/a> in a tweet on Monday. Fitch notes that the banking sector\u2019s FX-denominated loan-deposit ratio is still too high despite falling 3.7 bps in 1Q17, but expects these to given the weak operating environment and a falling EGP.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other analysts, however, believe that the move to end transfer caps will add pressure to the EGP. <\/strong>The threat appears to come from foreign companies repatriating profits, according to Capital Economics\u2019 Jason Tuvey. \u201cLook at the historical moves of the EGP.
