But that\u2019s not all, with announcements stemming from El Sisi\u2019s visit to Turkey continuing to trickle in, new tax incentives set to be announced in the coming days, important energy updates, and more in today\u2019s issue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">WATCH THIS SPACE-<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><a id=\"wwtt1\"><\/a>  <strong>#1- <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/17697a01-daaa-4f94-87ff-39a059bf0b4d\/yield-on-three-month-t-bills-hits-five-month-high\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">New tax incentives<\/a><\/strong><strong> are set to be announced within the coming days,<\/strong> Cabinet Spokesperson Mohamed El Homsani said in a cabinet <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/story.php?story_fbid=1016908030479617&id=100064812882317&mibextid=WC7FNe&rdid=WSJFtUIoZ3Hz5HBf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> yesterday, following a meeting between Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk. He added that the incentives are designed to \u201cprotect investors\u2019 rights and support them as they grow and expand their investment, production, and development activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The incentives <\/strong><strong>will be announced on Wednesday <\/strong><strong>and will pave the way for the issuance of the government\u2019s <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/12788a5c-65f4-49bf-8f7a-5525080814b7\/following-up-on-egypt%25e2%2580%2599s-long-awaited-tax-policy\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">long-awaited<\/a><\/strong><strong> tax<\/strong><strong> policy document,<\/strong> a senior government source told Enterprise, adding that they will also provide a solution for tax delays and disputes and facilitate the inclusion of the informal economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Remember: <\/strong>We first heard about the new incentives <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/17697a01-daaa-4f94-87ff-39a059bf0b4d\/yield-on-three-month-t-bills-hits-five-month-high\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">back in August<\/a>, with the relevant authorities framing them as a way to streamline services, enhance relations between investors and the Tax Authority, and modernize the tax system through new technologies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a> <strong>#2- That proposed Cyprus-Egypt energy corridor <\/strong><strong>you\u2019ve been hearing about<\/strong><strong>, may actually<\/strong><strong> happen: <\/strong>Egypt and Cyprus have \u201cbegun serious steps\u201d to reach an agreement to build a 90-km marine natural gas pipeline to connect the two countries, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asharqbusiness.com\/power\/53086\/%D9%85%D8%B5%D8%B1-%D9%88%D9%82%D8%A8%D8%B1%D8%B5-%D8%AA%D8%AF%D8%B1%D8%B3%D8%A7%D9%86-%D8%B1%D8%A8%D8%B7-%D8%AD%D9%82%D9%84-%D8%A3%D9%81%D8%B1%D9%88%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%AA-%D8%A8%D8%AA%D8%B3%D9%87%D9%8A%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D8%AD%D9%82%D9%84-%D8%B8%D9%87%D8%B1-%D9%81%D9%8A-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%AA%D9%88%D8%B3%D8%B7\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Asharq Business<\/a> reports, citing an unnamed government official. We also finally heard some concrete details on the pipeline, with the official telling the outlet that the pipeline will connect the Aphrodite gas field in Cypriot waters to the Zohr field\u2019s production facilities in Egypt, carrying 1 bn cubic feet of gas per day. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Egypt\u2019s days of being a net energy exporter, for now at least, are firmly in the rearview<\/strong><strong> mirror<\/strong> as declining local production and rising domestic demand led to energy shortages that led to rolling blackouts and a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/454b221a-69a5-4435-864e-86f3fc55f90e\/government-pledges-to-end-power-cuts-by-third-week-of-july-with-usd-1.2-bn-set-aside-for%253cmark%253e-energy%253c%2Fmark%253e-imports-and-other-initiatives\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/454b221a-69a5-4435-864e-86f3fc55f90e\/government-pledges-to-end-power-cuts-by-third-week-of-july-with-usd-1.2-bn-set-aside-for%253cmark%253e-energy%253c%2Fmark%253e-imports-and-other-initiatives\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 1.2 bn energy import plan<\/a> to keep the lights (and ACs) on for the hottest months of the year. Government source <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/fcbb9bb9-0bf4-46f0-bdd3-b2e80db9dfae\/egypt-issues-tender-for-20-lng-shipments,-stocking-up-more-shipments-through-winter\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">told Enterprise<\/a> earlier this week that LNG imports were set to continue during winter seasons and a pipeline with Cyprus presents a potentially cheaper and more reliable alternative. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>But feeding the national grid isn\u2019t the only aim<\/strong>, with the unnamed government official in addition to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/647f20cd-4c15-4d92-a7b7-97dfbc186be0\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">TotalEnergies officials<\/a> along with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/4448ca70-634d-4b89-bfec-59e7237cc21f\/el-etreby-and-okasha-reportedly-set-to-swap-positions-in-managerial-shakeup-of-state-banks\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Oil Minister Karim Badawi and his Cypriot counterpart<\/a> last week all saying that the Cypriot gas could be liquified in Egypt and re-exported as LNG. Despite having energy supply gaps to fill at home, the government is keen to stave off arbitration claims from liquefaction plant shareholders if the plants remain inoperational for too long and is eager to use energy exports receipts to pay dues to foreign energy companies in the country that they want to carry on investing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The when: <\/strong>Even if an agreement is reached, it would be a few years before the gas starts flowing in, The four entities now fully own the Tamweely, but we are yet to find out on how the ownership of the company is distributed between them.
