While gas powered grids are already in place, future expansion is looking toward other means, namely renewable energy in our solar-rich desertscapes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The International Energy Agency (IEA), however, <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/guardian.ng\/energy\/gas-production-to-grow-faster-than-oil-coal-by-2022\/\"><strong>still forecasts growth<\/strong><\/a><strong> in the natural gas <\/strong><strong>sector, <\/strong>seeing it growing by 1.6% per annum through 2022. While Mills\u2019 argument for renewables holds water, population growth is exploding in countries including Egypt, and economic slumps are always going to be cyclical. The political aspect can\u2019t be denied, either. Former US President Barack Obama\u2019s administration also cancelled the exercise in 2014 over allegations of human rights abuses by the Egyptian government.
