stand:<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"> The overnight deposit rate remains at 27.25%, the overnight lending rate at 28.25%, and the main operation and discount rates at Those surveyed argued that it was still too early for rate cuts, with most expecting easing to begin in late 2024 or early 2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Inflation outlook:<\/strong> The MPC sees inflation stabilizing around current levels in 2024, with a significant decline expected in the first half 2025 \u201cdue to the cumulative impact of monetary policy tightening and favorable base effects.\u201d However, the committee noted upside risks, including \u201can escalation of current geopolitical tensions, unfavorable climate conditions, both domestically and globally, and higher than anticipated fiscal measures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Fuel and electricity hikes to keep inflation sticky:<\/strong> The new government \u201cplans to further increase administered prices, especially fuel and electricity, to reduce the subsidy bill and remain compliant with the IMF program,\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/ramona-moubarak_egypt-activity-7219984696774950912-fVsI\/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Ramona Moubarak, Fitch Solutions' director of MENA country risk, suggesting that \u201cthis will keep inflation sticky in the coming months, especially from September onwards when the authorities plan to increase electricity tariffs and the seasonal adjustment to education prices takes place.\u201d <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Any rate cuts now will hurt the EGP:<\/strong> Moubarak believes that the Madbouly government is focused on supporting the exchange rate at the moment, ruling out a rate cut in the near future, as \u201ca cut in the rates at this time, when the market is not expecting it, might cause some pressure on the EGP.\u201d <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>But that could change if the gov\u2019t opts to support economic activity:<\/strong> \u201cThere is a risk that the authorities would choose to prioritize supporting economic activity and start cutting rates earlier than we currently expect,\u201d Moubarak noted. However, there are clear signals that the CBE will stick to its stringent policy for a longer period, first indicated by its pulling of tns of EGP of liquidity from the banking system over the past few weeks, EG Bank board member Mohamed Abdel Aal told Enterprise. He pointed to June\u2019s Purchasing Managers Index <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/13dd8c48-d8d8-405b-91ce-4d5640203db9\/egypt%25e2%2580%2599s%253cmark%253e-pmi%253c%2Fmark%253e-picks-up-to-its-highest-level-in-three-years,-nears-growth\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">readings<\/a> \u2014 which saw Egypt nearly edge into growth for the first time in over three years \u2014 as a reassuring sign with regard to economic growth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What's next?<\/strong> The committee\u2019s statement stressed that future interest rate decisions will be
