Topping there list was Venezuela\u2019s IBC Caracas which soared 1304.26%, followed by Ukraine\u2019s PFTS index (the main index), GSE Ghana and Ukraine\u2019s \u201cUX\u201d Index.On the regional side, the Egyptian stock exchange was the best performer among Arab bourses, and second in Africa only to GSE.<\/p><p><strong>Inflation numbers are expected to come out today<\/strong>. This month is all the more significant as the central bank\u2019s Monetary Policy Committee will meet on 17 May to set interest rates.<\/p><p><strong>The CBE\u2019s MPC meeting comes at a time when central banks across emerging markets look to contain the impact of a rising USD and the prospect of a rate hike by the Fed<\/strong>. Some have already started taking action, with Argentina\u2019s raising interest rates three times, Russia putting the brakes on further monetary easing and Indonesia burning reserves to prop up its currency. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-05-09\/as-emerging-markets-groan-here-s-the-central-banks-due-to-meet\">Bloomberg has the list of upcoming decision dates by central bankers<\/a>.<\/p><p><strong>Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell downplayed the impact a rate increase by the US central bank will have on emerging markets<\/strong> in a speech on Tuesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-05-07\/emerging-market-central-banks-face-toughest-test-since-tantrum\">Bloomberg reports<\/a>. Powell said the role of U.S. monetary policy \u201cis often exaggerated\u201d as a force contributing to financial conditions in other economies. He conceded that spillovers do occur because of the USD\u2019s role as a widely-used reserve currency. \u201cThere is good reason to think that the normalization of monetary policy in advanced economies should continue to prove manageable for EMEs,\u201d Powell said.<\/p><p><strong>The IIF totally disagrees, saying capital inflows to EMs will shrink:<\/strong> A surging USD is likely to hit foreign investment into emerging markets this year, cutting its capital inflow forecast for this year by USD 43 bn to USD 1.22 tn, the DC-based Institute of International Finance said on Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/in.reuters.com\/article\/us-emerging-flows-iif\/dollar-rise-a-paradigm-shift-for-emerging-market-investment-iif-idINKBN1IA1VF\">according to Reuters.<\/a> capital inflows as a share of GDP will fall to 3.7% from 4.2% in 2017, it added. \u201cProspects for non-resident capital inflows to emerging markets this year have deteriorated...Rising U.S. bond yields and a stronger dollar have prompted a \u2018sudden stop\u2019 in portfolio flows since mid-April,\u201d the IIF said in a report.<\/p><p><strong>Will Emaar resolve its dispute with the Public Enterprises Ministry today?<\/strong> The general assembly of the Public Enterprises Ministry\u2019s El Nasr Housing and Reconstruction has reportedly authorized Mahmoud Hegazi, the CEO of parent company the Holding Company for Construction and Development, to reach a settlement with Emaar over the Uptown Cairo project today, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youm7.com\/story\/2018\/5\/9\/%D9%88%D8%B2%D9%8A%D8%B1-%D9%82%D8%B7%D8%A7%D8%B9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D8%B9%D9%85%D8%A7%D9%84-%D9%8A%D9%82%D8%AA%D8%B1%D8%AD-%D8%A5%D9%86%D9%87%D8%A7%D8%A1-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%86%D8%B2%D8%A7%D8%B9-%D8%A8%D9%8A%D9%86-%D8%B4%D8%B1%D9%83%D8%AA%D9%89-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%86%D8%B5%D8%B1-%D9%88%D8%A5%D8%B9%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%B1\/3784143\">sources tell Youm7<\/a>. El Nasr, which filed for arbitration in Cairo last July, is demanding Emaar pay EGP 1 bn and return 3 mn sqm of land in Mokattam it says Emaar has failed to develop since they acquired it in a 2005 agreement. The move aims to pave the way for further cooperation on investment between Egypt and Sudan, Investment Ministry Undersecretary Fathi Abdel-Azim <a href=\"https:\/\/www.egypttoday.com\/Article\/2\/49604\/Egyptian-Sudan-manage-to-broker-a-land-border-ports-agreement\">told Egypt Today<\/a>, adding that investors will be invited to attend a press conference at the Qostol crossing soon to explore existing opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Could this mean that Sudan is close to lifting its ban on Egyptian imports? <\/strong>Sudanese officials had <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/04\/23\/did-sudan-really-promise-to-end-its-boycott-of-agriculture-goods-before-ramadan\/\">reportedly said last month<\/a> that the government in Khartoum was planning lift its blanket ban on imports of some 19 Egyptian agricultural goods before the start of Ramadan. The ban, which was imposed in May last year, was largely seen as a consequence of souring ties between Egypt and Sudan over the Halayeb and Shalatin border dispute, as well as disagreements over the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/05\/06\/sudan-ethiopia-reiterate-their-pledge-not-to-harm-egypts-nile-water-share-through-gerd\/\">Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) new mega dam<\/a>. Raya had <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/01\/28\/rayas-aman-to-launch-operations-in-2h2018\/\">announced in January<\/a> that Aman would launch operations in 2H2018 as soon as it receives FRA\u2019s license.
