<strong>float<\/strong> of the EGP (or a series of devaluations \u2014 a much less welcome approach) once the results are in;<\/li>\n<li>What the US <strong>Federal Reserve<\/strong> decides today on interest rates \u2014 and what the CBE will do when it meets a week from tomorrow.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"> <a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a> <strong>COP28 has run into overtime: <\/strong>Countries remain at loggerheads over the wording of a draft agreement that circulated on Monday, kicking the conference into marathon negotiations on a final text.<\/p><p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The issue:<\/strong> The draft agreement which called for the \u201creduction of fossil fuel production and consumption\u201d in a \u201cjust, orderly, and equitable manner\u201d to achieve net zero \u201cby, before or around 2050.\u201d Calls for the \u201cphasing out\u201d of oil and gas don\u2019t appear in the draft agreement, and it makes a tripling of global renewable energy capacity just a recommendation, not a commitment. <\/p><p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>In the first corner: <\/strong>Saudi Arabia leads a group of (mostly Arab) oil and gas producers that fiercely oppose the use of \u201cphase out\u201d or \u201cphase down\u201d in any final agreement. Saudi has signaled for more than a week now that it simply won\u2019t sign an agreement that talks about the end of hydrocarbons, which account for as much as 45% of its GDP.<\/p><p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>In the other: <\/strong>The European Union and small island nations, who have variously called the Arab world\u2019s stance \u201cdisgusting,\u201d \u201cdeeply disappointing,\u201d and \u201cout-of-step.\u201d<\/p><p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why it matters: <\/strong>A single \u201cno\u201d vote from the nearly 200 countries participating means there\u2019s no agreement. <\/p><p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The kingmaker? <\/strong>Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman arrived at the COP28 presidency last night in what observers think is a sign that talks are getting down to brass tacks. <\/p><p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The timeline: <\/strong>The COP28 presidency had committed to a 4am CLT release of a new draft agreement, but there\u2019s no sign of that as we slide toward dispatch time.
