\u201cI don\u2019t believe this is a natural death,\u201d Erdogan said at symbolic funeral prayers for Morsi in Istanbul.<\/p><p><b>World leaders remain relatively mute on Morsi\u2019s <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/06\/18\/former-president-mohamed-morsi-dies-at-67-prosecutor-orders-autopsy\/\"><b>death<\/b> on Monday after suffering a heart attack in a Cairo courtroom<\/a>, but the UN\u2019s human rights office (no fan of Egypt for some time now) joined Erdogan in calling for an independent investigation, spokesman Rupert Colville <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/NewsEvents\/Pages\/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=24708&amp;LangID=E\">said in a statement<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2019\/06\/17\/egypt-independently-investigate-morsys-death\">Human Rights Watch<\/a> wasn\u2019t far behind, and Iran <a href=\"http:\/\/en.mfa.ir\/index.aspx?siteid=3&amp;fkeyid=&amp;siteid=3&amp;pageid=36409&amp;newsview=576150\">issued a statement<\/a> offering condolences and wishing \u201csuccess for the great Egyptian nation.\u201d<\/p><hr class=\"grey-line\"><p><b>Meanwhile, in the world most of us inhabit:<\/b><\/p><p><b>Pharos\u2019 <\/b><a Not this time, says El Erian: <\/b>The US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will announce today its decision on interest rates as it wraps its two-day meeting. Emerging market economies, some of which have begun cutting interest rates this year, are hoping for a rate cut, but markets sage and Allianz chief economic advisor Mohamed El Erian thinks they\u2019ll be left waiting another month: \u201cThe first cut will probably not take place this week but rather at the next FOMC meeting scheduled for 30-31 July,\u201d he writes in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/opinion\/articles\/2019-06-17\/what-federal-reserve-meeting-this-week-will-do-to-interest-rates\">a must-read piece for Bloomberg<\/a>. \u201cIt is likely to amount to a 25-basis-point reduction as part an open-ended cycle of rate cutting, with a smaller probability of a 50-basis-point \u2018one and done\u2019 approach,\u201d he says.<\/p><p><b>El Erian suggests that the Fed wants to stick to its \u201cdovish\u201d narrative on rates<\/b> signalled by Fed Chairman Jerome Powell at the beginning of the year, meaning a rate cut is coming. But at the same time, the Fed\u2019s own data on the FOMC\u2019s views about where interest rates should go could point to a rate hike, which is sending mixed signals to investors, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/fed-faces-unfamiliar-dilemma-with-rate-projections-11560763802\">according to the Wall Street Journal<\/a>. In the face of a turbulent maco climate and \u201ca fluidity\u201d in the US economy, \u201cthe Fed will wish to retain as many policy options as possible, even if there is some risk of disappointing markets that are pressing for upfront signals of very dovish Fed measures,\u201d El Erian says.<\/p><p><b>Meanwhile, European Central Bank chief Mario Draghi signaled <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecb.europa.eu\/press\/key\/date\/2019\/html\/ecb.sp190618~ec4cd2443b.en.html\"><b>in a speech yesterday<\/b><\/a><b> that further rate cuts<\/b> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/ecb-signals-possible-rate-cut-bond-buying-extension-11560849634\">fresh stimulus<\/a> could be in the cards as soon as July. <b>The Donald wasn\u2019t happy about the idea of EU stimulus,<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDonaldTrump\/status\/1140935620291964928\">taking to Twitter<\/a> to accuse Brussels of \u201cunfairly\u201d manipulating the EUR, and warning that it had been \u201cgetting away with this for years, along with China and others.\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/ea28f876-91a1-11e9-b7ea-60e35ef678d2\">Financial Times<\/a> has more.<\/p><p><b>Dude, this isn\u2019t a reality TV show: <\/b>The Donald also said yesterday he would like to \u201cdemote\u201d Fed Chair Jay Powell, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/06\/18\/trump-on-demoting-fed-chair-jerome-powell-lets-see-what-he-does.html\">CNBC<\/a> reports. Libra will launch as a standalone app and on WhatsApp and Messenger by 2020. It is the most significant move yet to bring blockchain technology into mainstream use, with Facebook claiming its primary goal is financial inclusion.<\/p><p><b>Zuckerberg apparently wants his currency to eventually challenge the USD,<\/b> extending the social media giant\u2019s power over not just our data and access to information, but a global means of exchange. has one of the fastest growing populations in the world:<\/b> Egypt will have to support an extra 60 mn people in the next 30 years as the population rises to 160 mn by 2050, <a The report has Egypt among the nine countries expected to show the largest population increase between now and the middle of the century. Data forecasts Egypt\u2019s population to rise to almost 121 mn people by 2030, and most alarmingly, for it to more than double in size to 225 mn by the end of the century.<\/p>\n<p><b>The global population will reach 9.7 bn by 2050: <\/b>India will see the largest growth, with Nigeria, Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Indonesia also likely to increase significantly.<\/p>\n<p><b>And by the end of the century, the planet will likely need to sustain some 11 bn people.<\/b> Yes, 11 bn.<\/p>\n<p><b>President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has termed Egypt\u2019s population boom a \u201cchallenge as critical as terrorism.\u201d<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/blog\/future-development\/2018\/05\/22\/egypts-population-boom-then-bust\/\">We already face severe resource shortages<\/a>, with climate change and housing demands meaning a loss in arable land, and rising sea levels, water shortages and pollution all posing grave threats to health. Capmas has said that if we want a healthy, well-educated, competitive population, our population growth rate must be one-third that of economic growth. Our <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/05\/09\/egypts-gdp-growth-accelerated-to-5-6-in-3q2018-19\/\">current GDP growth rate of 5.6%<\/a> may be robust, but <a href=\"https:\/\/tradingeconomics.com\/egypt\/gdp-growth\">growth averaged 4.07% between 1992 and 2017<\/a>. The IMF has predicted a labor force of 80 mn by 2028, and neither our current education system or our economy are equipped to handle these new entrants to the market.<\/p>\n<p><b>What is being done to control it?<\/b> Although successful government family planning campaigns in the 1990s slowed the population growth rate from 3.5% in the 1970s to 1.7% in the mid-2000s, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indexmundi.com\/facts\/indicators\/SP.POP.GROW\/compare#country=eg\">it was back to 2.11% in 2011<\/a> and still hovering around the 2% mark in 2016. Last year, the government launched the five-year, USD 19 mn <a href=\"http:\/\/rdian.com\/gl\">\u201cTwo is Enough\u201d<\/a> campaign to raise awareness of the economic costs of having more than two children. EGAS said the current prices are appropriate for different industries. It said factories, who receive about 2.4 bcf\/day of natural gas, are working at almost full capacity. Parliamentary sources quoted by local press said the government will continue to turn down requests in the meantime until it finishes studying the issue. Industry<a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/08\/27\/manufacturers-looking-to-press-govt-once-again-on-lowering-gas-prices\/\">has been pressuring<\/a> the government for years to cut natural gas prices saying that it is affecting their product prices and thus sales which is causing them to work under their full production capacity. The government had <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2016\/08\/04\/govt-to-reduce-gas-prices-to-steel-manufacturers-in-september-kabil\/\">promised<\/a> in 2016 to cut gas prices to USD 4.5 mmBtu from USD 7 mmBtu but didn\u2019t deliver on it, with EGAS describing the decision at the time as a <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2016\/07\/10\/egas-says-selling-gas-at-usd-4-5-per-mmbtu-is-a-waste\/\">\u201cwaste\u201d<\/a>.
