Still, we have plenty of interesting news for you this morning, so there\u2019s that.<\/p><p><b>Investors are still getting their collective head around the odds (and implications) of a protracted US-China trade war<\/b>, the talking heads tell us. Wall Street recovered on Tuesday, but Asian shares are struggling near a nearly four-month low this morning on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-global-markets\/asia-stocks-wobble-near-three-and-a-half-month-low-as-trade-worries-linger-idUSKCN1SL023?il=0\">lingering concerns over the economic impact<\/a>\u201d of the trade war. The EGX30 closed up 0.9% on an anemic EGP 372 mn in total turnover.<\/p><p><b>The key takeaway: Volatility is decidedly back on the menu<\/b>, and anyone who tells you that the selloff in equities is deepening or that trade fears are miraculously \u201ceasing\u201d hasn\u2019t got a clue what he\u2019s talking about. Or in slightly more mature terms: \u201cIt\u2019s just too early to tell if this is a buy, on slightly oversold conditions, or if it\u2019s the start of stabilization \u2026 we\u2019re going to be in for a period of volatility for most the next month as we await the G-20 meeting,\u201d as one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-05-14\/asia-stocks-set-to-climb-after-u-s-rebound-markets-wrap?srnd=premium-middle-east\">Bloomberg<\/a> analyst put it.<\/p><p>(That G-20 meeting? <a href=\"https:\/\/g20.org\/en\/\">June 28 and 29 in Osaka, Japan<\/a>.)<\/p><p><b>Keep an eye on: <\/b>The Donald calling on the US Federal Reserve to throw its lot in with the trade war, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/8c131a24-765c-11e9-be7d-6d846537acab\">Financial Times<\/a> suggests. Trump thinks America will win the trade war if the \u201cUS central bank matches stimulus moves in Beijing.\u201d He is also expected this week to order that US companies stop using \u201ctelecommunications equipment made by firms posing a national security risk, paving the way for a ban on doing business with China\u2019s Huawei,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-china-huawei-tech-exclusive\/exclusive-trump-expected-to-sign-order-paving-way-for-u-s-telecoms-ban-on-huawei-idUSKCN1SK2P1\">Reuters<\/a> adds.<\/p><p><b>SIGN OF THE TIMES: UAE\u2019s <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.finablr.com\/\"><b>Finablr<\/b><\/a><b> has cut its IPO price amid weak investor demand,<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-finablr-ipo\/uaes-finablr-extends-ipo-closing-by-a-day-to-may-14-sources-idUSKCN1SJ24N\">Reuters says<\/a>. The payments platform had planned to list its shares on the London Stock Exchange at GBP 2.10-2.60 per share but has since priced at GBP 1.75 amid the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/05\/14\/global-market-turmoil-sends-investors-fleeing-emerging-market-shares-and-currencies\/\">ongoing market jitters<\/a> \u2014 and that after it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-finablr-ipo\/uaes-finablr-extends-ipo-closing-by-a-day-to-may-14-sources-idUSKCN1SJ24N\">kicked back its closing day<\/a>. The new share price gives the company an implied market value of around USD 1.59 bn. Our friends at EFG Hermes are serving as joint bookrunners on the transaction, which is being led by JPMorgan, Barclays and Goldman Sachs.<\/p><p><b>Also in the market right now: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arabiancentres.com\/index\/en\/\">Arabian Centres<\/a>, Saudi Arabia\u2019s largest owner and operator of shopping malls, which was looking to raise some USD 1 bn in what was being billed as the second-largest IPO ever in the kingdom. The company now looks on track to raise about USD 747 mn after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-arabiancentres-ipo\/arabian-centres-to-raise-747-million-after-pricing-ipo-at-bottom-of-range-idUSKCN1SE108\">pricing at the bottom of the range<\/a> on which it had guided, putting it on track to close as the third-largest IPO in Saudi. EFG Hermes is also doing JBR duties here.<\/p><p><b>Across the pond, workplace messaging app Slack is pushing ahead with plans to directly list <\/b>on the New York Stock Exchange on 20 June. The direct listing, which will not see it offer new shares, is getting plenty of ink in the FT (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/8d3dc756-759d-11e9-bbad-7c18c0ea0201\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/79b192c8-75c8-11e9-bbad-7c18c0ea0201\">here<\/a>).<\/p><hr class=\"grey-line\"><p><b>What the heck is happening in the GCC? <\/b>Two Saudi oil pumping stations were hit by drone attacks yesterday, \u201cheightening concerns about the security of the kingdom\u2019s energy infrastructure 48 hours after two of its tankers were struck.\u201d Houthi rebels backed by Iran claimed responsibility for the pipeline attack. Coming as it does amid heightened tensions between the US and Iran, the news has the FT channeling its inner Rodney King, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/42e1dfb0-758b-11e9-bbad-7c18c0ea0201\">calling for us all to just get along<\/a>.
