Abdel Aal justified the additional \u201cbridge\u201d cycle by saying that the constitution does not specify the number of cycles parliament should be in session for, meaning that a sixth (or seventh, or eighth\u2026) cycle is not problematic.<\/p><p><strong>Why the extra session? <\/strong>The legislative cycle<a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/11\/06\/what-were-tracking-on-6-november-2019\/\">runs between October and June<\/a> every year, a slight issue given the current five-year parliamentary term will end in January 2021. An additional mini session is therefore necessary to bridge the gap. It remains unclear whether this will be the system for all forthcoming parliamentary terms, or if our illustrious representatives will find a more long-term solution.<\/p><p><strong>Other parliamentary news worth noting before you begin your day:<\/strong> Abdel Aal adjourned the assembly yesterday, giving our elected MPs a break until 8 December, having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.almasryalyoum.com\/news\/details\/1444664\">according to AMAY<\/a>.<\/p><hr class=\"grey-line\"><p><strong>Russian President Vladimir Putin is coming to Egypt next year, when we officially <\/strong><strong>break ground on the USD 30 bn Dabaa nuclear power plant<\/strong>, Russia\u2019s presidential envoy in the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov tells the<a href=\"https:\/\/tass.com\/politics\/1089869\">Russian news agency TASS<\/a>. The plant\u2019s first reactor is expected to be commissioned in 2026 and the entire plant will be completed by 2029.<\/p><p><strong>Resumption of charter flights in sight?<\/strong> Bogdanov also hinted that there will be \u201cimportant developments\u201d in Cairo and Moscow\u2019s relationship, and although he did not explicitly mention the issue, we\u2019re hoping an agreement to resume direct flights from Russia to Sharm El Sheikh is on the horizon.<\/p><p class=\"web-image stand-out-borderless\"><a href=\"http:\/\/somabay.com\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2019\/11\/somabay-1600.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"enterprise\"><\/a><\/p><p><strong>Aramco institutional tranche almost covered in first three days: <\/strong>Arrangers of Saudi Aramco\u2019s IPO have reported strong early demand, with the institutional tranche almost covered in the first three days of book-building, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-11-09\/saudi-aramco-initial-public-offering-to-start-november-17\">Bloomberg reports<\/a>. An apparently healthy appetite among institutional investors for shares comes a day after Aramco <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/11\/19\/what-were-tracking-on-19-november-2019-6539\/\">all but gave up marketing the offering overseas<\/a> due to low demand among foreign investors. The Saudi government has reportedly been pressuring local investors to buy shares, and relaxed margin lending rules for banks. Aramco still has another two weeks to fill the institutional portion. The book-building period ends 4 December, while the retail subscription runs 17-28 November.<\/p><p><strong>Tech stocks in the US have apparently had their best year in a decade this<\/strong><strong> year<\/strong>, with investors showing interest in companies\u2019 different offerings, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/technology-stocks-head-toward-best-year-since-2009-11574159401?mod=hp_lead_pos1\">the Wall Street Journal.<\/a> The stocks have outperformed on the market, with the S&amp;P 500 technology sector gaining 41% in 2019, its biggest one-year advance since 2009. These figures reflect confidence in the companies\u2019 ability to drive robust sales and growing earnings growth, and working through issues that include a cooling economy, controversies over users\u2019 data privacy, and trade tariffs.<\/p><p><strong>Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is closing the book-building process for its <\/strong><strong>USD 13 bn secondary stake sale early because of strong investor demand<\/strong>, with the institutional portion of the sale already oversubscribed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/alibabas-13-billion-hong-kong-share-sale-already-multiple-times-subscribed-11574140815?mod=hp_lead_pos7\">WSJ reports<\/a>. The Hong Kong-listed group is expected to price its shares today ahead of the sale on 26 November. The transaction\u2019s underwriters had said last week that the sale could be valued at USD 11.7 bn.<\/p><p class=\"web-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2019\/9\/1961.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"enterprise\"><\/p><p><strong>US gives greenlight to Israeli colonization of Palestine:<\/strong> The US has claimed that Israeli settlements in the West Bank \u2014 long denounced as illegal under international law \u2014 are actually legal, effectively giving Israel the greenlight to continue its colonization of the West Bank. The Foreign Ministry rejected the US announcement, calling the settlements \u201cillegal and contrary with international law\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2Qzyzza\">a statement<\/a>.<\/p><p>International news to keep on your radar:<\/p><ul>\n<li><strong>Protests in Iran against oil price hikes have subsided <\/strong>shortly after the Revolutionary Guards warned anti-government protesters it could take \u201cdecisive action,\u201d an Iranian judiciary spokesman said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-iran-gasoline-protests\/iran-says-calm-has-been-restored-after-fuel-price-hike-unrest-idUSKBN1XT0X7\">Reuters<\/a>. The EGP\u2019s sustained stability will support the deceleration of inflation rates, which will in turn give the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) ample room to continue its easing cycle. Mamdouh says she expects the CBE to push a total of 300 bps rate cuts throughout 2020.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Look for improved BoP with healthier natgas exports, tourism revenues, foreign holdings:<\/strong> An improving trade balance will help keep the currency strong over the coming months, driven by rising natural gas exports. Egypt\u2019s import bill has also been growing at a much slower pace, says Mamdouh. Other sources of optimism for an improved balance of payments include the rally in tourism revenues and increasing investment in Egyptian treasuries. Mamdouh also pointed to improving real interest rates as the economy\u2019s macro stability is in an \u201coutstanding\u201d position and with GDP growing at a 5+% clip.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Liquidity in the bond market should also get a bump from the agreement Egypt signed with Euroclear <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/10\/20\/egypt-signs-agreement-with-euroclear\/\">last month<\/a><\/strong><strong>.<\/strong> The agreement with the Belgium-based clearinghouse should also attract more investments to Egyptian securities, which will lend more support to the currency.
