Lamees El Hadidy picked up the topic last night on her show, adding impetus to the notion that something may be in the works. We have chapter and verse in this morning\u2019s roundup of Last Night\u2019s Talk Shows, below.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"tldr-story-02\" class=\"content-anchor\"><\/a><strong> #2- The finance community is getting its head around Aramco having pulled <\/strong><strong>the plug on foreign marketing of its IPO <\/strong>\u2014 an offering that had prompted many would-be issuers to hold back from late-in-the-year capital raising activities. Saudi Aramco has cancelled plans to take its IPO roadshow outside of the Gulf as foreign appetite falls far short of expectations, sources close to the matter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/a83add8a-09ec-11ea-bb52-34c8d9dc6d84\">told the Financial Times<\/a>. The Saudi oil giant is reportedly no longer holding meetings with European investors and has canceled planned roadshows in the US, Asia and, finally, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-11-18\/saudi-aramco-cancels-london-leg-of-planned-ipo-roadshow\">London<\/a>. The book-building process \u2014 which is \u201call local now\u201d \u2014 is expected to continue until 4 December, with the stock to price the following day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Localizing the IPO means the government will have more influence over the <\/strong><strong>company than if western investors were involved<\/strong>, Bloomberg says in a recap of the obvious.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Aramco IPO visualized:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-11-17\/five-charts-showing-how-saudi-aramco-s-mammoth-ipo-stacks-up?srnd=premium-middle-east\">Bloomberg<\/a> is out with five charts that put the IPO into perspective.<\/p>\n<p class=\"web-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-11-17\/five-charts-showing-how-saudi-aramco-s-mammoth-ipo-stacks-up?srnd=premium-middle-east\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2019\/11\/1607.jpg?ssl=1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>#3- <\/strong><strong>President Abdel Fattah El Sisi kicked off his trip to Berlin yesterday with a flurry of<\/strong><strong> meetings<\/strong> with political and business figures alike. Look for the visit to dominate the airwaves and the front pages of many newspapers today and tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>*** We also have a wide selection of industry news worth a skim this morning<\/strong>, with everything from infrastructure tender updates to the latest on short selling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"web-image stand-out-borderless\"><a href=\"http:\/\/somabay.com\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2019\/11\/somabay-1600.jpg?ssl=1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>We should get a better idea tomorrow of whether to price in more rate cuts in the US of A<\/strong><strong> this year:<\/strong> The US Fed\u2019s minutes from its October meeting are set to be released tomorrow, and the market will be on the lookout for confirmation on whether the central bank is pausing its easing cycle, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/cab2bf86-0604-11ea-a984-fbbacad9e7dd\">the Financial Times says<\/a>. Fed Chairman Jay Powell indicated at the post-meeting presser last month that the so-called \u201cmid-cycle adjustment\u201d was now at an end, meaning that the bank was unlikely to make a fourth cut this year at its meeting, scheduled for next month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fed policy will stay \u201cnon-political,\u201d Powell tells Trump<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> Fed Chairman Jay Powell told President Donald Trump that the Federal Reserve\u2019s monetary policy will remain \u201cnon-political\u201d despite the president\u2019s constant public criticism of the central bank. Trump adopted a marked change of tone after the meeting, describing the encounter as \u201cvery good and cordial.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalreserve.gov\/newsevents\/pressreleases\/other20191118a.htm\">A Fed statement<\/a> said that Powell\u2019s comments \u201cwere consistent with his remarks at his congressional hearings last week,\u201d and that they didn\u2019t talk about his expectations for monetary policy going forward.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><strong>The trade of goods around the world has lagged over the past few months \u2014 and y-o-y<\/strong><strong> growth is declining<\/strong>, according to the World Trade Organization\u2019s (WTO) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wto.org\/english\/news_e\/news19_e\/wtoi_18nov19_e.pdf\">Goods Trade Barometer (pdf)<\/a>, which gauges momentum in global trade. The order will allow the airline to expand its increase its routes in Southeast Asia and Africa. Mufti mostly echoed what he told El Hekaya\u2019s Amr Adib <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/11\/18\/last-nights-talks-shows-on-monday-18-november-2019-6463\/\">earlier this week<\/a>, but spoke in a much longer segment from a foreign affairs perspective (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CLpj12mAvWY\">watch, runtime: 25:01<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Media\u2019s focus on Abiy Ahmed war comments was a misrepresentation -Ethiopian ambassador: <\/strong>The media has \u201cmisconstrued\u201d Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed\u2019s statement last month about his country\u2019s willingness to go to war, Mufti told El Hadidi. \u201cHe [Ahmed] was talking about the need for solving the case peacefully \u2026 without any war \u2026 without any conflict,\u201d he said. According to research from the law firm and Oxford Economics, countries need to double down on eliminating limitations related to infrastructure, resources, and other regional trade agreements that might undermine the efficiency of the continental agreement. AfCFTA, which came into force on 30 May, will create one of the world\u2019s largest trade areas and aims to boost intra-regional trade, eliminating 90% of tariffs and allowing goods and services to move freely on the continent. The agreement also promises to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/monkey-cage\/wp\/2018\/03\/29\/the-countdown-to-the-african-continental-free-trade-area-starts-now\/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.163622e874a4\">increase intra-African trade by 52.3%<\/a> and bring more FDI \u2014 which currently stands at less than a tenth of what goes into Asia \u2014 by offering would-be investors access to economies of scale and making export processes easier.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The agreement could also help prop up manufacturing GDP in Africa<\/strong>, and reduce African countries\u2019 reliance on importing manufactured goods from Europe, China, and India, the research indicates. As it currently stands, the bulk of Africa\u2019s exports are raw materials and other natural resources, while imports are concentrated in manufacturing products, industrial machinery, and transport equipment. Intra-African trade of manufactured products is weak and is largely comprised of re-exported goods originating from outside the continent, signaling that \u201cAfrican nations do not trade more with each other because of a misalignment between what various African countries need and what is produced on the continent,\u201d says Virusha Subban, a partner at the law firm focused on customs and trade.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Growth across Africa from the agreement is doomed to be inequitable:<\/strong> Some countries in the continent appear to be in a better starting position to capitalize on the benefits of the agreement, the research shows. Countries that already have trade integration with neighboring countries and those with open economies stand to gain the most. <strong>Egypt, for example, has a \u201cvery limited\u201d trade relationship with its African peers, despite having a much larger economy than others.<\/strong> \u201cThe results of our analysis show countries that have already been bold enough to create more open, business-friendly environments stand to make the biggest gains. The plant is aiming to generate electricity from 600 tonnes of waste a day, and will be the first of 10 WtE plants GKC has in store for Egypt in the near-future, Tahoun added. Tahoun didn\u2019t mention when the plant is slated for inauguration.
