There\u2019s also a chance the UK might cross the finish line first, with the National Health Service hoping to start inoculating the eldery and front-line workers on 1 December and then 18-50 year-olds from January, completing the process by April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2020\/11\/22\/pfizer-covid-vaccine-could-get-green-light-end-week\/\">the Telegraph<\/a> reported. The news comes as Pfizer and BioNTech last week asked US regulators for emergency approval for its vaccine, which <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/dc3a3a2e-ab0c-4bac-ac15-fc1e45735533\">the companies say is 95% effective<\/a>.<\/p><p><strong>Developing countries<\/strong><strong> have ordered vaccine doses from AstraZeneca that would cover <\/strong><strong>more than 40% of their total needs<\/strong>, says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-11-22\/astra-oxford-shot-is-key-to-escaping-pandemic-for-many-nations?srnd=premium-europe\">Bloomberg<\/a>. The vaccine has so far showed a strong immune response in adults and the results of the final stage of clinical trials are due anytime now.<\/p><p><strong>Egypt has been in talks to acquire mns of doses from the UK company<\/strong> and is one of dozens of low- and middle-income countries set to rely heavily on the vaccine. It\u2019s likely to be less expensive and far easier to distribute than Pfizer and Moderna\u2019s products, which need to be kept at ultra-cold temperatures until just before being administered.<\/p><p><strong>Poor countries may be waiting in line a bit longer <\/strong>\u2014 vaccine distribution was on the list of things the G20 wrung its hands about this week, but the final <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2020\/11\/G20-Riyadh-Summit-Leaders-Declaration_EN.pdf\">communique (pdf)<\/a> from their meeting was silent on the issue of helping poor companies pay for the shots even as leaders promised to \u201cspare no effort to ensure their affordable and equitable access for all people.\u201d The WHO is short at least USD 4.5 bn to support the programs it needs to make that happen.<\/p><hr class=\"grey-line\"><p><strong>The <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cairoict.com\/\">Cairo ICT<\/a><\/strong><strong> expo continues today and runs through Wednesday.<\/strong> This year, the fair focuses on \u201cthe big reset\u201d of how we look at business, the economy, and life in general post-covid.<\/p><p>Also part of the expo: The transport tech-focused <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/trans-mea.com\/\">TransMea conference<\/a><\/strong> got underway yesterday and runs until Wednesday.<\/p><p><strong>Polls open for the first of two election run-offs for the House of Representatives today <\/strong><strong>and close tomorrow.<\/strong> Voters from Giza, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, New Valley, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, Red Sea, Alexandria, Beheira and Matrouh can all cast their ballots to decide the remaining 110 seats up for grabs. Today is also the final day that Egyptians abroad hailing from these governorates can vote. Thirty-two candidates won seats <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/15a7eff2-43a2-4be8-a0e8-cf96d3ec67c3\">in the first round of voting<\/a> last month.<\/p><hr class=\"grey-line\"><p><strong>PSA #1- We were wrong yesterday \u2014 you\u2019re not yet in violation of the traffic law if <\/strong><strong>you don\u2019t have an electronic vehicle sticker yet.<\/strong> Car owners have until 31 December to stick an RFID on their windshields, the Interior Ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/338zJHg\">said on Thursday<\/a> in a statement we missed. SFE CEO Ayman Soliman <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/07f8ac49-9909-483d-bcd8-63849651e7b9\">said in September<\/a> that the process could be wrapped up by the end of the year. EFG Hermes declined to comment on the report when we asked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background: <\/strong>EFG Hermes and the SFE <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/493e0457-82af-4b27-9c7f-1ab2d8301a49\">announced in June<\/a> that they had been given the greenlight by the central bank to start due diligence on the AIB, and that they planned to purchase of a 76% stake through a capital increase to EGP 5 bn, which they were hoping to complete before the year\u2019s end.
