And the pro-government Mostaqbal Watan party swept the second round of the parliamentary elections. Egypt has now disclosed a total of 110,767 confirmed cases of covid-19. The ministry also reported 11 new deaths, bringing the country\u2019s total death toll to 6,453. We now have a total of 101,046 confirmed cases that have fully recovered.<\/p><p><strong>Egypt has welcomed over 500k tourists since international flights resumed on 1 July and <\/strong><strong>none have been infected with covid-19<\/strong>, Tourism Minister Khaled El Enany told Ahmed Moussa on Sada El Balad TV on Saturday (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZnH_K02imog&amp;feature=emb_logo\">watch, runtime: 4:04<\/a>). Some 3-4k tourists have visited Egypt each day, with arrivals from Eastern Europe partially making up for the absence of visitors from Western Europe, he said.<\/p><p><strong>Emirates airline is taking up the challenge of trying to transport covid-19 vaccines that <\/strong><strong>have a cold chain requirement,<\/strong> such as Pfizer and BioNTech\u2019s vaccine candidate which must be stored at around -70\u00b0C. Emirates President Tim Clark told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/11\/15\/emirates-working-with-pfizer-others-on-vaccine-transport-challenge-.html\">CNBC<\/a> that the airline has freezers capable of storing the vaccine and is designing containers to transport it on its planes.<\/p><p class=\"web-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asean.org\/asean-hits-historic-milestone-signing-rcep\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2020\/11\/Asean2020-1600px.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"enterprise\"><\/a><\/p><p><a id=\"tldr-story-06\" class=\"content-anchor\"><\/a> <strong>The world\u2019s largest trade bloc is now a thing: <\/strong>15 Asia-Pacific nations <a href=\"https:\/\/asean.org\/asean-hits-historic-milestone-signing-rcep\/\">yesterday signed<\/a> the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which covers almost a third of the world\u2019s population and GDP. The pact will gradually reduce import tariffs on more than 65% of goods, and standardize rules governing e-commerce, intellectual property and financial services. RCEP needs to be ratified by at least six Asean nations and three non-Asean states before it comes into force. <strong>You can find the details of the agreement <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/asean.org\/storage\/2020\/11\/Summary-of-the-RCEP-Agreement.pdf\">here (pdf)<\/a><\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, Mark II?<\/strong> RCEP could strengthen China\u2019s commercial ties with its neighbours and cement its position as the region\u2019s (world\u2019s?) economic powerhouse, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-asean-summit-rcep-signing\/asia-forms-worlds-biggest-trade-bloc-a-china-backed-group-excluding-u-s-idUSKBN27V03O?il=0\">Reuters suggests<\/a>. The agreement brings rivals China, Japan and South Korea within the same trading partnership for the first time ever in what Beijing described as a \u201chistoric breakthrough.\u201d The US is notable in its absence in both the RCEP and the parallel Trans-Pacific Partnership, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2017\/02\/16\/a-mixed-bag-of-nuts-for-egypt-in-the-international-press-on-16-february-2017\/\">abandoned by Trump in 2017<\/a>. Washington now finds itself on the outside of two largest trade groups on earth centered on the world\u2019s fastest-growing region.<\/p><hr class=\"grey-line\"><p><a id=\"tldr-story-07\" class=\"content-anchor\"><\/a> <strong>GOOD NEWS FOR EGYPT- Yield-hungry investors are piling back into long-term EM debt <\/strong>following months of risk aversion caused by the pandemic, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-11-13\/yield-mania-gives-breathing-space-to-indebted-emerging-markets?sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a>. Several factors are influencing the renewed appeal of these bonds. Chief among them are more US policy certainty following the projected Biden win and nearing prospects of a vaccine.<\/p><p><strong>This pivot toward long-term bonds comes as EM governments have been primarily relying on short-term financing<\/strong>, with lenders unwilling to take on long-term positions. It could prove very helpful for EM governments, who could benefit from longer-tenor debt as they\u2019re faced with nearly USD 3 tn-worth of local-currency debt due to mature next year.<\/p><p><strong>This will be music to Egypt\u2019s ears<\/strong>, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/01\/10\/finance-ministry-drafts-more-realistic-comprehensive-debt-strategy-raises-egypts-public-debt-targets\/\">debt diversification strategy<\/a> aims to shift the country\u2019s borrowing towards longer-tenor debt to drive down its annual debt servicing bill.<\/p><p><strong>Paradoxically, gold prices could continue their bull run into next year.<\/strong> That\u2019s according to Goldman Sachs analysts, who wrote in <a href=\"https:\/\/markets.businessinsider.com\/news\/stocks\/gold-outlook-bull-market-continue-next-year-reasons-goldman-sachs-2020-11-1029802185\">a note<\/a> last week that heightened inflation expectations driven by post-covid fiscal stimulus, a weakening greenback and increasing demand for the precious metal in emerging economies will likely send prices higher through 2021.<\/p><p><strong>Meanwhile, Bloomberg\u2019s magic 8-ball is spewing out the words \u201cChina\u201d and \u201cemerging markets.\u201d <\/strong>In 2035, China is projected to overtake the US as the world\u2019s largest economy and strongest voice on the political arena, Bloomberg Economics forecasts in a piece interestingly titled <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/graphics\/2020-global-economic-forecast-2050\/?srnd=premium-europe&amp;sref=mmeFTDW1\">An Economist\u2019s Guide to the World in 2050<\/a><\/strong>. The rise of China, and perhaps a future India, could see emerging markets overtaking the developed world\u2019s contribution to global GDP by 2042. If you are the proponent of economics as tea-leaf reading, you\u2019ll get a kick out of this read.<\/p><p class=\"web-image stand-out-borderless\"><a href=\"https:\/\/somabay.com\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2020\/11\/Mesca-Beach-Nov.3-1600px.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"enterprise\"><\/a><\/p><p><strong>WATCH THIS SPACE- The guys who <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/f8b88120-f724-448d-b2cd-741647bd8685\">took down Dubai\u2019s NMC Health<\/a><\/strong><strong> have some choice <\/strong><strong>words for the investment <\/strong><strong>fad of the year: SPACs.<\/strong> Shortseller Muddy Waters has denounced blank-check companies as a \u201cpresent-day money grab\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.muddywatersresearch.com\/research\/mpln\/mw-is-short-mpln\/\">a report<\/a> explaining why they shorted healthcare company MultiPlan, which went public this year via a SPAC. The popularity of the acquisition vehicles has skyrocketed this year, accounting for around half the money publicly raised in the US, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/fc744cca-8109-4b4b-8b91-f592b8736be8\">the Financial Times<\/a> says. Global Rescue, an evacuation response company on the US West Coast, has signed up more clients in the past five months than in the company\u2019s entire 16-year history, as prepping goes mainstream among the elite.<\/p><hr class=\"grey-line\"><p><strong>TRUMP NON-TRANSITION- The Donald is continuing to deny that he lost the US election<\/strong>, despite briefly admitting that Joe Biden won the vote. \u201cHe only won in the eyes of the FAKE NEWS MEDIA. The company will partner with a local firm that will hold a 20-30% stake in the project, Ashmawy added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Raya Holding\u2019s Haier Raya Electric has broken ground on a EGP 200 mn air conditioner<\/strong> <strong>plant <\/strong>in the Sixth of October industrial zone, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2UxE81u\">Al Mal reports<\/a>, citing sources it says are familiar with the project. The company has so far spent over EGP 120 mn preparing the plant, which is expected to be up and running at the beginning of 2021. The plant will use over 60% locally-sourced materials in assembly when it gets underway, with plans to increase local components in the future.
