Expats have until <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/36jrJW2\">10 October<\/a> to register to vote, with polling taking place in waves from starting 21 October through 6 November. <strong>Step one: You\u2019ll need to visit the National Election Authority\u2019s <\/strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.elections.eg\/\">website<\/a><\/strong> to register. <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/dcd002dc-5993-4807-91d0-83ef3794a397\">Check out our calendar<\/a> at the end of today\u2019s web edition for a rundown on which governorates vote when.<\/p><p><strong>The House of Representatives will reconvene<\/strong> for the sixth and final legislative session <strong>on 1 October.<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Key news triggers as we enter a new month tomorrow:<\/strong><\/p><ul>\n<li><strong>PMI figures for September<\/strong> are due out for Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE next Monday, 5 October.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Foreign reserve figures<\/strong> for September should be out next week.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inflation data for September<\/strong> will land on Saturday, 10 October (the next central bank meeting isn\u2019t until mid-November).<\/li>\n<\/ul><hr class=\"grey-line\"><p><strong>The Health Ministry <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/349FT9J\">reported<\/a><\/strong><strong> 124 new covid-19 infections yesterday<\/strong>, up from 115 the day before. Egypt has now disclosed a total of 103,079 confirmed cases of covid-19. The ministry also reported 13 new deaths, bringing the country\u2019s total death toll to 5,914. We now have a total of 96,094 confirmed cases that have fully recovered.<\/p><p><strong>The Education Ministry has published its guidelines for how the new academic <\/strong><strong>year will be structured at all schools it regulates<\/strong>, including how many days each week grades will be required to attend the school, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/33gJ8Nv\">Masrawy<\/a> reports. Students attending schools that are able to abide by social distancing requirements will be able to attend classes full time. For schools that can\u2019t: Grades from the fourth primary (ibtidaiyah) grade to the third preparatory (eidadiyah) will be required to attend the school a minimum of two days a week, while grades from kindergarten to third primary will be required to attend no less than four days a week. Schools will also operate on a two-shift system if necessary to maintain social distancing that keeps students at least one meter apart in classrooms.<\/p><p class=\"web-image stand-out-borderless\"><a href=\"https:\/\/somabay.com\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2020\/9\/Somabay-27Sept-1600px.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"enterprise\"><\/a><\/p><p><strong>Data-mining firm Palantir Technologies and software company Asana will make<\/strong> <strong>their market debuts today<\/strong> via direct listings, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/palantirs-and-asanas-dueling-ipos-to-test-direct-listing-process-nyse-11601402163?mod=hp_lead_pos7\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> reports. The NYSE has set reference prices at USD 7.25 a share for Palantir (valued at almost USD 22 bn) and USD 21 a share for Asana (valued at around USD 5 bn).<\/p><p><strong>SOUND SMART- What\u2019s a direct listing? <\/strong>Direct listings circumvent investment-banking underwriters, giving existing shareholders including employees and early investors the chance to sell shares on the first day of trading. No new equity is offered in a direct listing.<\/p><p><strong>US stocks stumbled in trading yesterday <\/strong>as the S&amp;P 500 slumped 0.5% after little progress was reached in high-stakes stimulus talks in Washington and investors fretted over the pandemic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloombergquint.com\/markets\/asian-stocks-to-extend-global-rally-dollar-falls-markets-wrap\">Bloomberg<\/a> says. The Dow also finished 0.4% and the Nasdaq slipped 0.3%.<\/p><p><strong>Banks and bond traders are sending conflicting signals on the health of the US<\/strong> <strong>economy:<\/strong> Investors are continuing to pile into bonds at the same time as banks put aside USD bns in loan loss provisions, breaking with a long-term trend that has seen both banks and bond traders make similar assessments on credit risk, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/6329a3b8-dbd9-4b87-8df7-8f4183df5b0c\">the Financial Times<\/a> reports. Market watchers say that the Federal Reserve\u2019s support for the corporate bond market and ultra-low interest rates have \u201cscrambled the signals transmitted by yields on corporate debt.\u201d<\/p><p><strong>The world\u2019s largest oil traders are investing USD bns in renewable energy<\/strong> <strong>projects over the next five years<\/strong> in anticipation of a fundamental shift in the world\u2019s energy mix, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/394bf3d1-95c9-45e9-ae81-6434d441e237\">Financial Times<\/a> report. Swiss commodity trader Mercuria is planning to sink USD 1.5 bn into projects in North America, while Geneva-based Gunvor is planning to redirect 10% of the company\u2019s equity \u2014USD mns \u2014 over the next two years. The investments underscore how trading houses heavily engaged in the oil market now want to play a bigger role in solar, wind and hydrogen over the next decade.<\/p><p><strong>30% Google tax? <\/strong>Google will strictly enforce its policy of taking a 30% cut of payments made within apps offered by the Google Play store, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/09\/28\/google-to-enforce-30percent-cut-on-in-app-purchases-next-year.html\">CNBC<\/a> reports. Some developers like Netflix and Spotify have been circumventing the requirement by prompting users for a credit card to pay them directly, which Google says it will no longer allow. The fee is much like the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/6fc3cfe0-5b7e-428d-9dad-0ac5bfebfcef\">30% commission Apple charges vendors<\/a> on its platform, which some developers have recently claimed violates antitrust rules.<\/p><p class=\"web-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2020\/9\/al-sabah-1600px.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"enterprise\"><\/p><p><strong>The Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has passed away<\/strong> <strong>at the age of 91<\/strong>, the royal court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kuna.net.kw\/ArticleDetails.aspx?id=2926997&amp;language=en\">announced<\/a> yesterday. Al Sabah <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-kuwait-emir\/kuwait-mourns-emir-sheikh-sabah-veteran-defender-of-arab-unity-idUSKBN26K2FH\">died in the US<\/a> where he had been in hospital since July after having surgery in Kuwait. He will be succeeded by Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, <a href=\"https:\/\/arabic.cnn.com\/middle-east\/article\/2020\/09\/29\/kuwait-new-emir-sheikh-nawaf\">CNN Arabic<\/a> reports, carrying a profile of the 83-year-old crown prince.<\/p><p><strong>President Abdel Fattah El Sisi expressed his condolences<\/strong> on his official <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3iiDrmi\">Facebook<\/a> page, saying the Arab and Muslim world had lost \u201cone of its most precious men.\u201d El Sisi announced three days of mourning starting Tuesday 29 September to mark the occasion, an <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/33bJ0yH\">Ittihadiya<\/a>statement said.<\/p><hr class=\"grey-line\"><p><strong>US ELECTION WATCH-<\/strong><strong> For anyone wanting policy substance, US presidential debates <\/strong><strong>are the wrong places to look.<\/strong> Joe Biden called Donald Trump a \u201cclown\u201d and \u201cthe worst president America has ever had.\u201d Trump ramped up the superlative-laden rants and interrupted Biden at any given opportunity. The bonds will finance the development of Egypt\u2019s USD 1.9 bn portfolio of green projects, including clean transportation, renewable energy and sustainable water management, the report noted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The offering attracted new investors<\/strong>, with a virtual roadshow \u201cattended by many who are speaking to Egypt for the first time,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSKBN26K1MJ\">Reuters<\/a> reports, citing an unnamed source familiar with the transaction. Sustainability analysts and global investors were among those interested in the sale., said that while the bonds offer value \u201cwhen compared to the existing secondary Egyptian curve \u2026 I think they might tighten,\u201d Zeina Rizk, Arqaam Capital\u2019s executive fixed income director, said as the bonds were being marketed.
