Everyone else <\/strong><strong>is winging it, too.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/2020\/sep\/04\/oliver-burkemans-last-column-the-eight-secrets-to-a-fairly-fulfilled-life\">The column is well worth reading in full.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>SIGN OF THE TIMES- Our time online has basically doubled. <\/strong>Home internet usage has gone up 92% y-o-y between June and August, while mobile internet usage was up 12% y-o-y over the same period last year, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3m1YjBA\">a National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) report<\/a>. Peak internet usage hours this year expanded by some four more hours, which means people are most actively using the interwebs between 3:00pm to 4:00am, up from the 9 hour peak hours window between 5:00pm to 2:00am recorded last year.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><a id=\"tldr-story-10\" class=\"content-anchor\"><\/a> <strong>Meanwhile: All eyes will be in Wall Street later today at the opening bell <\/strong>as US markets come back from a long weekend for their first trading session since throwing a temper tantrum last Thursday and Friday. <strong>European markets shrugged off the faint whiff of panic<\/strong> across the Atlantic when they opened yesterday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/be4ffccc-9a0d-455a-b920-2e48779bda0d\">Financial Times<\/a> tells us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here at home, the EGX 30 was up 0.6% at the close yesterday, ending a week of <\/strong><strong>back-to-back losses<\/strong> that saw the bourse lose 3.3% since 27 August amid a wider global slump and <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/3eee3536-dce6-4332-923d-5ff1d6a4927b\">last week\u2019s US tech selloff<\/a><strong>.<\/strong> Trading was moderate, with EGP 1.1 bn-worth of shares changing hands \u2014 or just about on par with the trailing 90-day average. Other regional markets ended the day <a href=\"https:\/\/af.reuters.com\/article\/egyptNews\/idAFL8N2G4317\">flat or little changed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Futures suggest both Europe and Wall Street will open in the green <\/strong>later today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Notably, the <\/strong><strong>benchmark MSCI emerging markets index was down by 0.5% yesterday,<\/strong> and the currency gauge was little changed. Europe, Middle East and Africa have reversed their slump against their Asian counterparts since last week\u2019s selloff in the US, rising for the past three sessions after hitting record lows on Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-09-07\/emerging-market-investors-may-need-new-playbook-for-rest-of-2020?srnd=premium-middle-east&sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a> suggests. Commodity stocks have also surged, with a measure of EM raw material stocks vs. consumer discretionary stocks seeing its biggest three-day increase since November 2016.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\" \/>\n<p><strong>We should hear more today about what the coming school year will look like for private <\/strong><strong>and public K-12 schools.<\/strong> The announcement is <a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/tshawki\/posts\/10224592467303808?_rdc=1&_rdr\">expected<\/a> to cover safety requirements, how tuition will be handled, private tutoring, and use of online platforms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health Minister Hala Zayed is in Sudan today to see the relief efforts underway<\/strong> following the worst flooding to hit the country in over a century, according to a report from the state-run <a href=\"http:\/\/english.ahram.org.eg\/NewsContent\/1\/64\/379516\/Egypt\/Politics-\/Egypt-health-minister-to-visit-floodstricken-Sudan.aspx\">MENA<\/a> news agency. Sudan has declared a national state of emergency after torrential rains resulted in the deaths of 99 people and the damage of more than 100k homes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We\u2019re heading back to the polls tomorrow:<\/strong> The remaining seats in the newly-constituted Senate will be decided in run-off elections taking place tomorrow and Wednesday. <strong>The results will be announced on Wednesday, 16 September.<\/strong> The first-round of voting last month saw <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/caacfa43-9823-42c2-b386-17e9406becd2\">174 representatives elected<\/a> to the 300-seat upper chamber, leaving 26 to be decided by this week\u2019s runoff. It remains unclear how STC values the stake, but an offer will need to be placed on the table before the deadline for negotiations passes at the end of this week. The Saudi firm <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/55185faa-76f8-436d-8e6e-b77835956f33\">extended the MoU<\/a> for an additional 60 days in mid-July due to \u201clogistical challenges\u201d resulting from the covid-19 pandemic. It extended the original agreement in April for the same reason.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background: <\/strong>STC began due diligence in March after signing a non-binding MoU with Vodafone Group in January to purchase its stake in Vodafone Egypt in a sale that would value the company at USD 4.4 bn. Telecom Egypt, which owns the remaining 45% of Vodafone Egypt, maintains the right of first refusal on the transaction, but it\u2019s still unclear how it plans to proceed should STC move ahead with the purchase. The national flag carrier had been seeking the loan <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/36f7fd8e-2466-4921-8192-4409f5b35b5c\">earlier this year<\/a> as it came under pressure from lower volumes during the covid-19 pandemic. EgyptAir has sustained losses of some EGP 3 bn since covid-19 grounded global travel and the company\u2019s foreign debt currently stands at EGP 13 bn, said EgyptAir holding company president Mohamed Zakria. EgyptAir <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/c77abca3-96eb-4f3f-a1c6-85d5e4eaa0e8\">earlier this year<\/a> received a EGP 2 bn loan from the Finance Ministry that will see the government service the carrier\u2019s debt until its operating capacity reaches 80% of levels achieved in 2019.
