The news dominates front pages across the globe this morning, from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/a67e1b8b-30e5-422b-a072-2686944d7594\">Financial Times<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/08\/world\/europe\/uk-vaccination-covid-virus.html?action=click&amp;module=Spotlight&amp;pgtype=Homepage\">New York Times<\/a>. All eyes now shift to the United States, where the Food and Drug Administration should give Pfizer regulatory approval in the coming days.<\/p><p><strong>We have lots more on the fight against covid here in Egypt <\/strong>below, as the government continues to warn us all to take things seriously as we\u2019re still months away from a vaccine making an appearance in Egypt.<\/p><hr class=\"grey-line\"><p><strong>A (WELCOME) SIGN OF THE TIMES- <\/strong>Elissar Farah Antonios has become the first woman to head Citigroup\u2019s MENA operations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-12-08\/citigroup-names-antonios-as-first-female-head-of-mena-business?sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports. Antonios, who has headed the bank\u2019s operations in the UAE, Levant and Iraq since 2009, will also join the Europe, Middle East and Africa committee, reporting to Atiq Rehman, who heads Citi\u2019s EMEA business.<\/p><p><strong>Oil companies and banks have hired the Pope to tell them how to stop polluting<\/strong> <strong>the planet and evading taxes.<\/strong> Big business will be consulting with Pope Francis on ESG goals in what will soon become the cartoonishly named Council for Inclusive Capitalism with the Vatican, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/08\/business\/dealbook\/pope-vatican-inclusive-capitalism.html\">the New York Times<\/a> reports. The council will bring together 27 \u201cGuardians for Inclusive Capitalism\u201d (or, \u201cbusiness executives,\u201d if you\u2019re a normal person) with the Pope to discuss how to make capitalism more socially responsible.<\/p><p><strong>Three Shell executives in charge of clean energy have resigned<\/strong> over frustrations with the oil giant\u2019s slow transition to green energy sources ahead of Shell\u2019s anticipated February announcement of its plans to transform into a net zero emissions business, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/053663f1-0320-4b83-be31-fefbc49b0efc\">Financial Times<\/a> reports.<\/p><p><strong>And while we\u2019re on the topic of doing what\u2019s right in business:<\/strong> Add <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e969a756-922e-497b-8550-94bfb1302cdd\">the FT\u2019s Martin Wolf<\/a> to the chorus of voices saying that Milton Friedman was wrong \u2014 companies really do have responsibilities other than to \u201cmaximize shareholder value.\u201d<\/p><p><strong>After nuclear war, there will be Cher, cockroaches, and Facebook\u2019s crypto ambitions: <\/strong>That\u2019s right, folks: El Face hasn\u2019t given up its crypto ambitions. Here\u2019s the rundown:<\/p>\n<p><strong>The good: Increasing clarity on where we\u2019re getting vaccines. <\/strong>Egypt has applied to the Covax program to obtain vaccines and is scheduled to hold an \u201cextended\u201d meeting with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gavi.org\/\">Gavi<\/a> \u2014 the global vaccine alliance that\u2019s leading the Covox initiative \u2014 Health Minister Hala Zayed said <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/36WFN81\">during cabinet\u2019s weekly meeting<\/a>. The Covax program aims to ensure developing countries are able to easily access covid-19 vaccines and plans to distribute them around the world without charge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The government will secure 20% of its vaccine needs from GAVI and another 30% from <\/strong><strong>AstraZeneca<\/strong>, Finance Minister Mohamed Maait <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/videos\/2020-12-08\/egypt-s-recovery-expected-in-2021-2022-finance-minister-video?sref=mmeFTDW1\">told Bloomberg<\/a>. Authorities are in talks with other companies for the remainder, he added. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry announced a new <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3n1MoDC\">protocol<\/a> for the treatment of covid-19 that employs more effective medicines and uses a different categorization process for the severity of cases.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We\u2019re fortunate: <\/strong>Fortune magazine estimates that <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2020\/12\/08\/only-10-of-people-in-poor-countries-will-get-a-coronavirus-vaccine-next-year\/\">only 10% of citizens in poor nations<\/a> will have access to a covid vaccine next year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also good news<\/strong> coming out of a <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3qHoI9R\">meeting<\/a> yesterday of the state\u2019s covid-19 task force: Only 30% of ventilators and 24% of beds in hospitals set aside for covid-19 patients are currently occupied. As many as 7.5k staffed beds, 1.5k ICU beds, and 325 ventilators were recently added to the state-run hospitals, Zayed said. There were concerns earlier during the pandemic that isolation capacity <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/2144813e-f2d1-4447-a9c5-88ca0a6b43ba\">had maxed out<\/a>, an issue which prompted the ministry to search for other alternatives including using hotels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The bad news: <\/strong>The Health Ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/36Vik72\">reported<\/a> 434 new covid-19 infections yesterday, up from 415 on Monday. The ministry also reported 23 new deaths, bringing the country\u2019s total death toll to 6,813.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The meh: The official tally could be more of \u201can estimate\u201d than the \u201creality on the <\/strong><strong>ground\u201d<\/strong> as a focus on testing severe cases leaves space for mild cases to go undetected, said World Health Organization Regional Emergency Director Rick Brennan at a <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3m0dCcq\">press conference yesterday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But this doesn\u2019t mean the state is fudging the numbers,<\/strong> a top policymaker says. The prerequisites are \u201croughly\u201d complete, he said, referring to the creation of <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/06\/23\/egypts-cabinet-approves-establishing-new-central-clearing-company\/\">a new clearing company<\/a>, new legislation, and other requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s with the hold-up? <\/strong>Mohamed Hegazy, head of the Finance Ministry\u2019s debt management unit, told us <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/08d2d325-ed33-45ea-aed8-f22a00d47f86\">last month<\/a> that the ministry is making progress in meeting the terms of the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/10\/20\/egypt-signs-agreement-with-euroclear\/\">2019 agreement<\/a> signed with Euroclear, but said the process had been slowed by the pandemic and hinted at the complexity of the requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why is it important? <\/strong>The agreement paves the way for local debt issuance to be cleared with the Belgium-based clearing house in a move to <strong>make debt more accessible to foreign investors<\/strong>, who can currently only access the market through a few local banks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Foreign inflows into debt dipped in March and April due to the pandemic-induced risk off<\/strong>, but hot money started <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a02f6809-1380-4df3-863e-2926ff19819f\">returning<\/a> to the country in May, reaching USD 23 bn by the end of November, up from USD 21.1 bn six weeks earlier.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt is also working to <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/02\/03\/egypt-seeks-inclusion-in-jpmorgan-em-bond-indexes\/\">secure its spot<\/a><\/strong><strong> on <\/strong><strong>JPMorgan\u2019s <\/strong><strong>emerging markets indices<\/strong> to cut borrowing costs and boost debt inflows, a process which Maait told Bloomberg is pending action from the investment bank. \u201cWe have fulfilled, from our point of view, most if not all of the requirements \u2026 we are waiting to hear from them,\u201d Maait said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New \u201cfloating rate\u201d bonds: <\/strong>The ministry hopes to soon wrap up discussions to determine the mechanism under which it will issue floating-rate sovereign bonds, says Maait. The discussions center around which benchmark to use, with a possibility to use the CBE\u2019s corridor rate, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-12-08\/egypt-lays-out-what-bond-investors-craving-yield-can-expect-next?sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a> quoted Maait as saying. Egypt also expects to take its first sovereign sukuk issuance to market sometime next year, as soon as a draft law recently approved by cabinet and <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/75e94e55-dc4e-4272-a14d-406ea57b2e2c\">shipped to legislators<\/a> gets final approval. The government could also issue new eurobonds on the international market in the first half of 2021, Maait said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The index-linked bonds and sukuk are <\/strong><strong>two of three new debt instruments<\/strong> Egypt is adding to its debt mix, with the other being green bonds (which the government took to market <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/5d1b54d5-5efa-41c9-ac8b-728b105b2ef0\">earlier this year<\/a>). The new instruments come as part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/01\/10\/finance-ministry-drafts-more-realistic-comprehensive-debt-strategy-raises-egypts-public-debt-targets\/\">debt diversification strategy<\/a> which also entails a shift towards longer-term borrowing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More from Maait: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The government still hasn\u2019t considered a <strong>post-loan agreement with the IMF<\/strong> after taking out nearly USD 8 bn in pandemic funding <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/16be15c7-809a-4228-ae03-8d3acd1c122f\">earlier this year<\/a>, but \u201cnothing is ruled out.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Egypt\u2019s economy should be <strong>growing at a 5.5-6.5% clip under normal circumstances<\/strong>, a range the government hopes to hit in FY2021-2022.<\/li>\n<li>If circumstances start gradually improving starting now, growth could reach 4% by the end of the ongoing fiscal year, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d7f612ce-8434-4b44-b29e-660084431d0c\">exceeding recent expectations<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>IN OTHER DEBT NEWS- <\/strong>Morgan Stanley has cut back on its investment in Egyptian bonds as it becomes more selective in its emerging market investments, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSKBN28H2HU\">Reuters<\/a>. The investment bank recently signaled its bullish sentiment on EMs, but then said it\u2019s taking \u201ca few chips off the table\u201d and that only select EM currencies and bonds will continue to perform well. The research firm now forecasts a quicker-than-expected global economic recovery in 2021 as the covid-19 vaccine is distributed, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/33XjZHk\">Ahram Online<\/a>. The government <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/cebea648-44f4-4769-9c64-352f55716a8d\">forecast<\/a> a growth rate of 2.8-4% in FY2021-2022.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt\u2019s current account deficit will <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d28cf123-7ea0-43f5-a2cb-cb815e16b3db\">continue to widen<\/a><\/strong><strong> in FY2020-2021 <\/strong>on the back of a USD 5 bn drop in tourism revenues, which will remain weak as the second wave continues to take hold in Europe. The bank expects the deficit to reach USD 12.6 bn in FY2020-2021, up from USD 11.2 bn over last fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The budget deficit will increase only marginally this fiscal year<\/strong> to 8.2% of GDP from an estimated 7.9% in FY2019-2020. \u201cFiscal buffers have provided economic stimulus with a minimal impact on the budget\u201d and the government \u201cremains broadly <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/6b494276-a8d3-4255-84e5-16b622eb9b4e\">on track<\/a>\u201d to meet its deficit reduction targets, it said. Finally, Beltone sees Egypt\u2019s debt-to-GDP at 90.3% in FY2020-2021, up from 80.5% two years earlier.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inflation will remain below the central bank\u2019s 9% (+\/- 3%) target range,<\/strong><strong> averaging<\/strong><strong> 4.8% throughout the remainder of the fiscal year<\/strong> and rising only as we enter into FY2021-2022 and as the CBE further cuts interest rates, Beltone said. \u201cRecord low international commodity prices, a stronger EGP, and base effect throughout 2020 have all provided a buffer to domestic inflationary pressure,\u201d Beltone says, noting that price growth could begin to pick up in 3Q2021 due to the global vaccine rollout and higher commodity prices that could accompany a potential detente between China and the incoming Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>With low inflation, Beltone believes the CBE will cut rates by at least 100 bps next year. <\/strong>Despite this, sovereign treasury yields will stabilize \u201cat a premium\u201d to the lending rate, keeping yields attractive to foreign investors, the investment bank added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The EGP looks set to remain strong<\/strong>, stabilizing at EGP 15.78 to the greenback in 2021 and growing stronger over the next five years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Government-led and central bank support, coupled with reduced natural gas prices, will promote a recovery in capex by the end of 2021<\/strong>, the investment bank said. An agreement reached <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a2b2645b-2a0e-47c8-bcf7-c3bc35d5d40a\">last week<\/a> between the Italian energy giant and its Union Fenosa Gas (UFG) partner Naturgy finally brought an end to an eight-year dispute with the Egyptian government, and is expected to pave the way for the facility to restart operations during the next quarter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Refresher: What was agreed last week?<\/strong> Naturgy has agreed to exit UFG \u2014 its 50\/50 JV with Eni that owns 80% of the facility \u2014 in return for a USD 600 mn payment and most of UFG\u2019s assets outside of Egypt. Its share of ownership will then be distributed between Eni, EGAS and EGPC. The amended system is expected to be implemented on first-year Thanaweya Amma students as of the 2021-2022 academic year, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3gpsHmX\">according to Education Minister Tarek Shawki<\/a>. Part 1 \u2014 the data center landscape:<\/strong> Establishing Egypt as a data hub is a major government priority. In 2018, then-CIT Minister Yasser El Kady <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/04\/04\/ict-minister-unveils-new-strategy-to-turn-egypt-into-regional-data-hub\/\">hinted at a national strategy<\/a> for this, after state-owned <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2018\/03\/28\/telecom-egypt-wants-data-centers-to-bring-in-25-of-its-revenues-within-five-years\/\">Telecom Egypt said<\/a> it wanted data centers to account for 25% of its revenues within five years. Egypt\u2019s total IT spending <a href=\"https:\/\/nations-emergentes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/egypt-information-technoly.pdf?fbclid=IwAR3hQHxuyt1UeQp0Niqcc8i_8PMDX2Xg8W5r1t7VGixaoHinYKVGM7gJ1sM\">was projected (pdf)<\/a> to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.6% to EGP 87.7 bn over 2019-2022, and big investments in data centers are underway. But to be a hub we must improve cost-effectiveness and infrastructure, and attract big players, say sources. In part one of this series, we take a look at Egypt\u2019s existing data center landscape.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gov\u2019t strategy is more data centers and investment in Egypt: <\/strong>The CIT Ministry\u2019s strategy involves attracting more investment into Egypt\u2019s data center industry and bringing more global data centers here, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sis.gov.eg\/Story\/128201?lang=en-us&lang=en-us\">El Kady announced<\/a> at the 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futuredc.org\/\">Future of Data Centers summit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What exactly do we mean by data centers, anyway? <\/strong>A data center is a physical facility used by organizations to house critical applications and data, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cisco.com\/c\/en\/us\/solutions\/data-center-virtualization\/what-is-a-data-center.html\">according to Cisco<\/a>. <strong>Enterprise data centers<\/strong> are built, owned and operated by data-producing organizations, on their premises. <strong>Managed services data centers<\/strong> are managed by a third-party, with the data-producing organizations leasing equipment and infrastructure. <strong>Colocation data centers<\/strong> house data for multiple data-producing organizations, providing power, cooling and security to host hardware and servers.<strong> Cloud data centers<\/strong> host data and applications using cloud service providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft (Azure), or IBM Cloud.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do we know how much demand there is for more data centers in Egypt? We don\u2019t, <\/strong>Amr Farouk, who heads up the FDC summit, tells Enterprise. \u201cSubstantial investment in hardware and software to build data centers here shows demand is high, but that\u2019s currently the only measuring tool we have.\u201d An overview of total demand would be valuable market research, he believes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Investment in Egypt\u2019s data center market in the last two years might total USD 1 bn, <\/strong>from the government and many private sector players, Farouk adds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt is one of several countries driving regional growth:<\/strong> Africa\u2019s data center market revenue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globenewswire.com\/news-release\/2020\/08\/04\/2072600\/0\/en\/The-Africa-data-center-market-by-revenue-is-expected-to-grow-at-a-CAGR-of-over-12-during-the-period-2019-2025.html\">is expected to grow<\/a> at a CAGR of over 12% from 2019-2025, crossing USD 3 bn. By 2025, total investment on data center infrastructure may be around USD 7 bn. Egypt \u2014 along with South Africa, Kenya, Morocco and Nigeria \u2014 is driving this growth. But the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.datacentermap.com\/north-america\/\">starting point<\/a> is low: Africa has 69 colocation data centers in 13 countries, the Middle East 135 centers in 16 countries, compared to 1257 centers in 23 countries in Western Europe and 1974 centers in North America.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt is strategically positioned to lead the African and Middle East data center markets<\/strong><strong>,<\/strong> says Sherif Elmasry, managing director of US-based tech company <a href=\"https:\/\/cornetelevated.com\/\">Cornet Elevated<\/a>. \u201cVideo content being streamed in Africa currently comes from either Europe or Asia, meaning the data has to travel from there. Egypt\u2019s geographical positioning in the middle means putting data centers here cuts the time \u2014 and cost \u2014 of data travel, almost in half. A skilled market, the availability of green energy, and the limited number of data centers in the region all make this a promising field for Egypt,\u201d Elmasry adds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our 13 colocation data centers are <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.datacentermap.com\/egypt\/\">mainly concentrated around Cairo<\/a><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> Owners and operators of these centers include Telecom Egypt, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.egidegypt.com\/\">Egypt for Information Dissemination (EGID)<\/a>, ECC Solutions, Link, Egypt Network, Raya, Life, GPX, CityNet, and Etisalat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How are organizations choosing their data centers?<\/strong> Organizations choose their data centers based on need, says Youssef Amin, market data director at EGID, which owns and operates one of the 13 colocation centers. EGID hosts approximately 150 terabytes of data and serves approximately 120 organizations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Banks and other large institutions often prefer colocation centers <\/strong>because they need reliable infrastructure and space for their equipment, says Amin. As they work with sensitive information, data privacy fears may also make them wary of using cloud storage, he adds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SMEs, with fewer resources, tend to prefer managed hosting: <\/strong>SMEs are more likely to use virtual machines, provided by data centers or cloud hosting, because their capacity requirements are less, says Amin. The data center manages everything \u2014 from physical server management to connectivity and power \u2014 then provides access to the server.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For data-driven companies like Arqam FC, cloud storage hits the mark for accessibility and cost-effectiveness:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arqamfc.com\/\">Arqam FC<\/a> stores almost all of its data with <a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/\">Amazon Web Services (AWS)<\/a>, located in the EU, says CEO Ali ElFakharany. This comprises some tens of terabytes of stored data, the amount increasing by the second. The company spends six figures in USD on data storage every year, but the cost is well worth it, he says. When choosing a data storage provider, they prioritized data accessibility, cost and community support: \u201cWe want to be able to access our data 100% of the time. Cost is an important factor. And we need a reliable and well-known community provider we can depend on for tools and documents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>While multinationals might make use of different services, depending on infrastructure and design:<\/strong> Some might host everything on the cloud, others may have minor servers in Egypt and abroad, says Amin. \u201cBut it depends on their applications as well. If they\u2019re primarily hosting things like email, these can be in the cloud. But if they have sophisticated applications they want to host locally, they may choose a local data center in Egypt,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s reasonable to imagine that many homegrown Egyptian companies generally use their own data storage,<\/strong> says Elmasry. \u201cThe fact that there aren\u2019t many data centers logically means that organizations must have their own.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The sector is still too small to be a data hub:<\/strong> Egypt\u2019s existing colocation centers are relatively small, each one providing up to 250 racks for server storage \u2014 approximately one MW of electricity<strong>,<\/strong> a source tells Enterprise. Most are 15-20 years old. Hyperscale data centers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aflhyperscale.com\/understanding-different-types-of-data-center\">needed for cloud<\/a> and big data storage, require at least 1000 racks (approximately four megawatts of electricity), the source adds. \u201cTo be a data hub, Egypt needs hyperscale data centers that allow rapid scaling up. Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) and OTTs \u2014 who own and create the internet traffic and content \u2014 wouldn\u2019t be interested in small size data centers,\u201d says Elmasry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So major investments in new data centers are underway: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liquidtelecom.com\/\">Liquid Telecom<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/2407ffcd-5885-4f96-bc5b-4cc4033caa08\">is looking to grow<\/a> its data center arm in Egypt, two years after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liquidtelecom.com\/about-us\/news\/Liquid_Telecom_to_invest_8bn_EGP_($400m_USD)_in_Egyptian_network_infrastructure_and_data_centres\">announcing a three-year<\/a> USD 400 mn Egypt investment plan. TE <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidetelecom.com\/telecom-egypt-to-construct-largest-international-data-center\/\">has announced<\/a> the construction of Egypt\u2019s largest international data center facility in Smart Village \u2014 aiming to house up to 2000 racks \u2014 presumably part of the EGP 17 bn investment <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/07\/07\/telecom-egypt-plans-to-invest-egp-17-bn-through-2020-2\/\">it announced in 2019<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/06\/17\/telecom-egypt-to-expand-in-data-centers-in-the-coming-two-years\/\">plans to build<\/a> 4-5 data centers. It\u2019s expected to host <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/03\/03\/te-nokia-ink-mou-to-provide-iot-services-to-egypt-businesses\/\">Nokia\u2019s Internet Of Things<\/a> platform by the end of the year, and is working to host <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/03\/03\/microsoft-collaborates-with-telecom-egypt-to-bring-cloud-services-to-egypt\/\">Microsoft\u2019s cloud network<\/a>. Another major data center, built and operated by Orange for five years with a contract value of USD 135 mn, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intelligentcio.com\/me\/2020\/01\/24\/orange-egypt-to-build-new-data-centre-in-administrative-capital\/\">opening in the new capital<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>While some say the ideal is to move everything to the cloud, ultimately, everything hinges on better infrastructure and cost-effectiveness<\/strong>, say sources.
