We also have big privatization news \u2014 with the government signing agreements to restructure five military companies ahead of taking them public. <\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">THE BIG STORY TODAY<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"> <strong>The Sovereign Fund of Egypt will start restructuring five military-owned <\/strong><strong>companies<\/strong> <strong>ahead of listing them<\/strong> under an agreement signed with the military\u2019s National Service Projects Organization and a number of consultancy firms, according to a cabinet <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/pfbid0eCfFs1hzP5p1Are1QzGKJpNpKJyyrjGhDmawyCzSyqYZM3ZGrnnJDW2pucnVL8Exl\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The list of companies include some familiar names we have been expected to go public <\/strong><strong>for some time now <\/strong>\u2014 filling station operator Wataneya, bottled water company Safi, food manufacturer Silo Foods, fuel retailer Chill Out, and National Roads Company. The offerings will take place between this year and 2026, according to the timeline outlined in the statement \u2014 though it remains unclear which companies will be offered when.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Advisors:<\/strong> EFG Hermes and CI Capital will serve as financial advisors. Legal counsel is being provided by ADSERO (Ragy Soliman and Partners) and Matouk Bassiouny &amp; Hennawy, while PwC and Grant Thornton are on board for tax and accounting. The decline reverses a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/481c302f-655a-4a4e-9028-c57687d436f2\/egp-strengthens-against-the-usd-after-four-days-of-losses-as-carry-trade-investors-cautiously-re-enter-egypt%25e2%2580%2599s-debt-market\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">brief rebound<\/a> that saw the EGP strengthened to 51.33 against the greenback yesterday after starting the week at 50.62.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The volatility is linked to renewed US-China tensions which triggered moderate foreign <\/strong><strong>investor exits<\/strong> after a short-lived stabilization, a banking source told EnterpriseAM. The source warned that further EGP fluctuations are likely until global markets calm down. Twelve-month non-deliverable forwards (NDFs) suggest traders see the USD trading at EGP 61.50 by the end of the year, according to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AsharqbEGY\/status\/1909914525354033154\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Asharq Business<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>AND-<\/strong> <strong>Egypt to issue USD 2 bn in sukuk this year:<\/strong> Egypt is planning on issuing USD 2 bn in sukuk in 2025 through multiple offerings, with the government already having appointed banks for the issuance, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/rates-bonds\/egypt-plans-issue-2-billion-sukuk-2025-finance-minister-reuters-2025-04-09\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> earlier today. The government is also open to debt-for-investment swap agreements akin to last year\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/b0b97fcf-95b0-4d39-86ae-0a4989221520\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Ras El Hekma agreement<\/a> as a means of securing FX, Kouchouk told the newswire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">THE BIG STORY ABROAD<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The US-China trade war drags on as China hits back with more tariffs:<\/strong> Beijing will raise tariffs on US goods to 84%, up from the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/c45f76f8-8448-4ffe-97ce-795a9e3b33f4\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">34% it previously announced<\/a>, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/gss.mof.gov.cn\/gzdt\/zhengcefabu\/202504\/t20250409_3961684.htm\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> from the Chinese Finance Ministry. The tariffs will come into effect tomorrow, taking the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/f3e0ee58-47a0-41c4-b021-ed19d27da6e7\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">cumulative rate<\/a> on US goods to 104% \u2014 on par with the duties applied to China by the Trump administration.
