Upon further review and discussion with industry players, we believe the opposite is true: The <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2023\/7\/508.pdf\" style=\"\">updated regulations (pdf)<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> clarify the requirements of licensing and standardize them to replace the previous system, where licenses were assessed on a case-by-case basis. They also provide further protections for consumers. Look for more in-depth coverage from us on this on Sunday. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The regs in brief:<\/span><span style=\"\"> The regulations to the Fintech Act \u2014 which flesh out licensing requirements<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> published in brief last year \u2014 introduce more licensing requirements for fintech providers looking to get licensed by the regulator. These providers  need to demonstrate they have the right equipment, access to basic facilities and infrastructure, applications and databases to support their activities. The changes also introduce better protections against fraudulent transactions and cybersecurity risks, and require providers to prove they would be able to recover from a security breach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">These changes to streamline the process have long been called for by industry players<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">\u2014 and have been well-received<\/span><span> by several big names in the fintech space. Asset manager Azimut commended the FRA for pushing through the amended regulations, saying that they will \u201cpave the way for the non-banking financial services sector\u2019s digital transformation, which aligns with the government\u2019s financial inclusion drive\u201d and will create better access to non-banking financial services across all segments of society, according to <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/arqam.news\/256712\/\" style=\"\">Arqam<\/a><\/span><span>. Stock trading app Thndr CEO Ahmad Hammouda also <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/thndrapp_breaking-news-the-financial-regulatory-authority-activity-7084883714622525440-czmD\/\" style=\"\">praised the amended regulations<\/a><\/span><span>, describing the changes as \u201cgroundbreaking steps towards embracing digital transformation and fostering financial inclusion.\u201d The Ins. After making headway between 2015 and 2019, progress towards reaching these goals has been interrupted by concurrent crises, including the Covid-19 pandemic, the continued Russia-Ukraine war, and other geopolitical tensions, the report says. Now, only 12% of SDG goals are progressing and 30% have globally remained unchanged or regressed from 2015, the United Nations Secretary-General <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hlpf.un.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2023-04\/SDG%20Progress%20Report%20Special%20Edition.pdf\" style=\"\">reports<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The good news: Egypt is doing better than in past years:<\/span><span style=\"\"> Egypt rose six spots in the report\u2019s<\/span><span> SDG index \u2014 which measures countries\u2019 progress in meeting their SDG targets \u2014 <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dashboards.sdgindex.org\/rankings\" style=\"\">to rank 87th<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> globally out of 166 countries assessed by the report. Egypt\u2019s ranking, with a score of 69.6, puts us above Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar, but below Jordan, the UAE, Turkey, and Morocco. Broadly speaking, our performance compared to the rest of our regional peers remains stable compared to last year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Where we\u2019re doing well: <\/span><span style=\"\">Egypt is \u201con track\u201d in three SDG categories \u2014 offering quality<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> education, improving access to clean water and sanitation, and encouraging responsible consumption and production. The first two of these categories have \u201csignificant challenges remaining\u201d for the 2030 goal to be met, according to the index, while encouraging responsible consumption and production faces some challenges. We\u2019re making some headway on other SDG categories, including those relating to climate action, gender equality, providing sustainable cities and homes, and economic growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Where we\u2019re stalling:<\/span><span style=\"\"> The report says Egypt is stagnating in areas such as reaching zero<\/span><span> hunger, protecting marine life, protecting land animals, and achieving peace, justice, and strong institutions. All of the areas in which we\u2019re plateauing in our progress are categorized as facing \u201csignificant challenges,\u201d according to the report. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">And where we need to get cracking:<\/span><span style=\"\"> The sole SDG category in which Egypt was marked as<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> seeing decreasing progress is reaching no poverty. Egypt has stagnated in cutting back on the percentage of its population living in poverty, while the proportion of the population that is categorized as living in extreme poverty has grown, the report says. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The past year has not been too kind to the majority of the globe.<\/span><span style=\"\"> Out of the 17 SDGs, not<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> one has been able to be met globally. The world is off track on SDG13 (climate action), with global warming at 1.2\u00b0C during 2022 and rising 0.3\u00b0C per decade. Healthy food and water supplies have been riddled \u2013 40% of the world drinks contaminated water and fisheries are being destroyed. On the other hand, hundreds of mns of children remain uneducated \u2013 it seems as though achieving the Sustainable Development Goals are unthinkable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">But in spite of a grim future, there is still hope. <\/span><span style=\"\">The SDGs can still be met, the report claims.<\/span><span> Investing in the SDGs capital assets and sustainable resources, which will aid the world in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals, is the solution. Meanwhile, halting any <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">investment into activities that threaten the earth and its inhabitants is also part of the remedy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">SDG assets? <\/span><span style=\"\">There are eight identified factors of sustainable capital assets:<\/span><span style=\"\"> Human capital,<\/span><span> infrastructure, natural capital, innovation capital, business capital, social capital, urban capital, and cultural capital. These factors blend together in order to create a functioning and healthy community that is ready to enact change and prepared to improve.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t<\/div><!-- .entry-content
