Let\u2019s agree that some abbreviations<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\"> actually hinder communication:<\/span><span> In a world where people\u2019s attention span is increasingly shorter, it makes sense to use acronyms like the Cares Act in lieu of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, Pilita Clark writes in the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/29c662fd-339d-41da-b4cc-9eecb81e79b5\" style=\"\">Financial Times<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. This not only facilitates conversations, but also helps make lasting, memorable impressions in contexts like Capitol Hill, where the alienating effects of tediousness can have important implications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">But where does it stop?<\/span><span style=\"\"> While these \u201cbackronyms\u201d invite clarity and \u201ccatchiness\u201d to otherwise<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> long and unimaginative titles, most acronyms have a counterproductive effect, Clark says. For instance, when referring to a PPP, what exactly do we mean by that? Is it purchasing power parity or public-private partnerships? The program also plans to work on pushing 2k factories operating in the informal economy to go legit, and move 300 of them to industrial complexes to act as supportive industries. The government is also looking to ramp up efforts to organize exhibitions locally and abroad, and will prioritize tapping promising export markets in Africa. We\u2019re hoping to export USD 10 bn worth of goods in 2024 \u2014 up from USD 6 bn now \u2014 with an eye to further raising that figure to USD 15 bn by the end of 2025, according to El Said.
