Annual urban inflation hit 32.7% in March, up from 31.9% the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/43c9a65b-6ab3-459d-b3b2-f9114f0fb374\" style=\"\">month before<\/a><\/span><span>, according to figures from state census bureau CAPMAS<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. Inflation is now at its highest since July 2017, when it was running at almost 33%. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">THE BIG STORIES ABROAD-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#1- The global business press is beaming messages of hope for the global economy:<\/span><span> The global economy may avoid a slump this year, the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/9e61dfe9-cf18-4ad1-8837-864925069fa6\" style=\"\">Financial Times<\/a><\/span><span> reports, citing the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/research\/april-2023-update-to-tiger-a-perilous-moment-rife-with-risks\/\" style=\"\">Brookings-FT tracking index<\/a><\/span><span>. The biannual index shows that economic conditions are close to historic averages, both in advanced economies and EMs. The US, Eurozone, China, India, and the UK are all <\/span><span>growing faster<\/span><span> than was predicted last year, while major emerging market economies are showing resilience thanks to improvements in policy framework and inherent dynamism. This comes despite IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/949808ec-6766-4180-9d42-6c14825eba76\" style=\"\">statement<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> earlier this week that the global economy is likely to see its weakest growth since 1990 this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">If anything, the recent drop in US Treasury yields may have just been a false alarm of<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\"> impending recession:<\/span><span> Two-year US Treasury yields saw a large percentage-point slide in March following the banking sector turmoil, a drop that traders took to mean a deep recession was on its way, <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-04-09\/bond-market-flashes-us-recession-warning-while-other-investors-call-false-alarm?leadSource=uverify%20wall\" style=\"\">Bloomberg<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">reports. This is particularly problematic when coupled with the fact that conditions for its survival are quite elaborate, from specific temperatures and humidity levels, to soil quality.
