This increase in exports was led by chemicals and building materials, followed by textiles and engineering products. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The Madbouly government has been working overtime to boost exports<\/span><span style=\"\">, having introduced<\/span><span> a <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/industries\/checking-in-on-the-states-export-initiatives\/\" style=\"\">number of initiatives<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> and funding programs to push industrial sectors to step into new markets. The government has also inked a number of trade agreements to enhance the presence of Egyptian products in global markets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The state has been lending exporters a hand with subsidy arrears:<\/span><span style=\"\"> The Export<\/span><span> Development Fund has so far <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2022\/12\/19\/another-export-subsidies-milestone-beni-suef-dry-port-tender-coming-next-year-91628\/\" style=\"\">paid EGP 42.5 bn<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> in overdue subsidies to 2.5k exporters under its export subsidy program, which allows exporters to receive their subsidies in a single payment rather than in installments over four to five years, in return for a haircut. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">These are all positive steps, but the food and readymade garments sectors want to see<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\"> more of where that came from:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> Edita Chairman Hani Berzi and member of the Federation of Egyptian Industries\u2019 readymade garments and home furnishings division, Hany Salam, both voiced their support for the Export Development Fund, but called for more regular pay-outs to allow exporters to calculate the percentage of reimbursement of export burdens within their production costs. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Less red tape:<\/span><span style=\"\"> Cutting down on bureaucratic procedures and expenses was also a key request<\/span><span> made at the workshop, with Readymade Garments Export Council head <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Marie Louis Bishara urging the government to reduce red tape for the ready-made garment industry to export products. She suggested lowering the cost of administrative expense and customs duties on export alongside removing the number of procedures required to grant or renew industrial licenses to speed up the production process. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Industry players also want lower interest rates to unlock CAPEX<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">:<\/span><span style=\"\"> Industrial sectors should<\/span><span> be granted low interest rate loans to help spur capital expenditure investments, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Amr Fattouh, member of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce\u2019s investors division said. Fattouh suggested offering loans at an 11% interest rate, instead of the current 18%, for \u201cproductive\u201d industries, which he said would remove the pressure on the Egyptian manufacturing sector. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Producers need to be export-focused: <\/span><span style=\"\">With the ongoing war in Ukraine delaying supply<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> chains and imports of grain and raw materials, Egypt has a chance to accelerate its production of natural gas and fertilizers, Fattouh said.
