We breakdown who gets what in the Speed Round below.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-05\"><\/a> <strong>HAPPENING NOW- The House of Representatives have given their sign off on a number of political and administrative pieces of legislation today<\/strong> as it trudges ahead before its summer recess. There is an expectation that they will sign off on the long awaited <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/307bebcd-a423-4957-9b6c-d13514a498e4\">Water Resources Act<\/a> today. We\u2019ll be keeping an eye on it and will have the full rundown in tomorrow\u2019s <strong>EnterpriseAM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>** CATCH UP QUICK <\/strong>on the top stories from today\u2019s<strong> EnterpriseAM:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>More than 2.25 mn vaccines <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/5cd6ac94-a5e1-4ce0-acfe-09a1e3023036\">will be delivered<\/a><\/strong><strong> to Egypt this week<\/strong>, among them Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson jabs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Egypt\u2019s external debt <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/c81a9696-04f4-415e-ae44-2e8b41f4c7ce\">jumped by 21%<\/a><\/strong><strong> in 3Q2020-2021 to USD 134.8 bn<\/strong>, compared to USD 111.3 bn in the same period in the previous fiscal year, according to the CBE.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Suez Canal revenues <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/250b9c8c-69b0-4e87-9d24-de0fd4ab8a7c\">hit a record USD 5.84 bn<\/a><\/strong><strong> in FY2020-2021<\/strong>, despite the Ever Given debacle that took place earlier this year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>When will we know the price of fuel at the pump for 3Q2021? <\/strong>The government\u2019s fuel pricing committee, which will set prices for domestic fuel for the current quarter, was supposed to have concluded their meetings last Saturday. A decision may not be announced until the beginning of August, government officials reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/c96030e0-a4d2-4c6b-8619-8fa4ad9192da\">told the local press<\/a>. The two men have denied the charges and are planning to appeal. for six gold exploration blocks under a USD 8 mn contract, while Centamin was awarded the remaining three contracts, valued at USD 9.1 mn, for gold search in 19 blocks, according to the statement. The agreements come under <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/72010319-5236-4436-851b-4b55455f42ff\">last year\u2019s Oil Ministry tender<\/a>, which awarded 11 mining companies the rights for 82 gold exploration blocks in the Eastern Desert last November.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who signed so far?<\/strong> Four mining companies signed <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/b7746b80-3be0-43fe-a181-c1d84a60edef\">10 new gold exploration contracts<\/a> worth a combined USD 11 mn with the Oil Ministry in February. These include Sawiris-backed Akh Gold, Red Sea Resources, the North Africa Mining and Petroleum Company, and Al Abadi Mining. A sign of their growing concern: Reps of automated crypto exchanges such as <a href=\"https:\/\/uniswap.org\/\">Uniswap<\/a> and other players in the fast-growing sector met virtually with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission to bring them up to speed on developments in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e6e7d9d6-7778-4286-ba6f-e5831fcbc538\">the Financial Times<\/a> reported. The event came on the heels of a global regulatory crackdown on crypto, though DeFi has so far avoided coming under the same harsh spotlight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What exactly is DeFi? <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/06\/18\/whats-defi-crypto-based-decentralized-finance-explained.html\">DeFi<\/a> is an umbrella term for a raft of financial applications in cryptocurrency (mainly stablecoins), geared towards disrupting financial intermediaries and facilitating peer-to-peer transactions. Blockchains \u2014 typically <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/learn\/ethereum-101\/how-ethereum-works%5C\">Ethereum<\/a> \u2014 are used in DeFi to create \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/alexandria\/article\/a-dive-into-smart-contracts-and-defi\">smart contracts<\/a>,\u201d through which users can manage financial transactions such as lending, borrowing and trading outside the purview of traditional financial institutions such banks, brokerage firms and centralized exchanges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So how does it work?<\/strong> Users interact with DeFi software protocols through unhosted wallets \u2014 non-custodial digital wallets that allow users to store their assets without having to depend on third-parties. The first DeFi application was created by <a href=\"https:\/\/makerdao.com\/\">MakerDAO<\/a>, founded by a Dutch entrepreneur in 2014. MakerDAO is a decentralized autonomous organization that created a token pegged to the USD called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/price\/dai\">Dai<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interest in DeFi is picking up: <\/strong>As this blockchain-based financial infrastructure gains steam, CoinGecko <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/6\/CoinGecko-2021-Q1-Report-1.pdf\">calculated (pdf)<\/a> the industry\u2019s market cap at more than USD 90 bn as of this month. American entrepreneur Mark Cuban described DeFi as an industry with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/decrypt.co\/56366\/mark-cuban-defi-reddit-wallstreetbets-ama\">the potential to explode<\/a>\u201d after the monthly volume of decentralized exchanges skyrocketed to <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinke.io\/2021\/01\/the-defi-boom\/\">USD 45.2 bn<\/a> in January, from USD 39.5 mn during the same month a year before. The rise in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasdaq.com\/market-activity\/cryptocurrency\/eth\">price of Ethereum<\/a>, the most commonly used blockchain for DeFi contracts, is also attributed to increased interest in DeFi. In February, Bitwise Asset Management announced the launch of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/bitwise-launches-worlds-first-decentralized-finance-defi-crypto-index-fund-301229787.html\">the Bitwise DeFi Crypto Index Fund<\/a> \u2014 the world\u2019s first-ever fund vehicle for accessing DeFi currencies, angling to usurp traditional finance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So, what\u2019s the problem with DeFi? In a nutshell, <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/advisor\/investing\/defi-decentralized-finance\/\">it\u2019s decentralized<\/a><\/strong>: Unlike traditional banks, which can be sanctioned or shut down, regulators would face difficulty holding any particular person or entity accountable in this all-digital industry. In DeFi, users do not receive risk disclosures, and its open protocols are not subject to risk management requirements, such as capital and liquidity buffers, that protect against loss of consumer funds and other systemic risks. DeFi users may have little recourse should a transaction go foul.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is further complicated by the fact that blockchain networks operate globally, <\/strong>meaning that participation in DeFi activities would not fall under any particular country\u2019s regulated financial system or tax laws. And when regulatory standards are created for this sector in one country, platforms may gravitate to countries with less strict protocols. The fact that different countries are at varying stages of regulating the crypto sector is also a challenge, with most <a href=\"https:\/\/philippsandner.medium.com\/the-impact-of-crypto-currencies-on-developing-countries-dce44c529d6b\">crypto-related regulatory frameworks in developing economies<\/a> still relatively lax.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But wait, how is DeFi actually different from good old fashioned crypto trading? <\/strong>Though users of DeFi contracts handle cryptocurrencies, crypto exchanges are considered a form of CeFi, or centralized finance, in the sense that they are still run by centralized entities that match buyers and sellers, and are subject to KYC (know your customer) protocols, and anti money laundering practices. DeFi sidesteps all of this by facilitating trades through its blockchain hosted contracts. Another key difference is that DeFi facilitates the tokenization of real world assets, creating digital units of commodities, shares, or stock indexes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Present regulation:<\/strong> DeFi does not refer to a predefined financial system or regulatory framework, but those that apply to cryptocurrency projects currently also govern DeFi, though they do not go into specifics. Present regulation assumes the presence of intermediaries in trades, which does not apply to decentralized DeFi digital asset classes. DeFi transactions conducted between individual users through \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coincenter.org\/how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love-unhosted-wallets\/\">unhosted wallets<\/a>\u201d are also not subject to existing regulatory requirements. \u201cThe regulators are probably scratching their heads on how to handle [DeFi],\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/forkast.news\/defi-future-crypto-sec-decentralized-finance\/\">says<\/a> crypto exchange Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, \u201cDo they regulate the guys writing code or do they regulate the blockchain? What\u2019s there to regulate?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Regulation in DeFi transactions could pose a radical challenge to modern finance:<\/strong> In its \u201cBitcoin\u2019s Dirty Little Secrets\u201d report in March, Bank of America analysts wrote that DeFi applications are \u201cpotentially more disruptive than bitcoin,\u201d stressing that \u201cnobody reasonably could claim that DeFi has at present been fully stress-tested. How hack-proof would DeFi be if the numbers involved were larger? Health and well-being has inched up people\u2019s priority list and products that have promised to provide serenity and relaxation now have an even greater appeal. From luxury cars to scents and candles, stress-relief is a new marketing buzzword and shoppers are happy to have their everyday products give them a mental health boost, reports the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/companies-target-a-new-market-the-stressed-out-11625889712?mod=hp_lista_pos1\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><sup><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><strong>Just how stressed are Egyptians? <\/strong>A <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10597-020-00701-9\">study<\/a> published in Community Mental Health Journal aimed to answer that question by surveying 1629 men and women about their level of anxiety and depression during the covid-19 pandemic. Depression was the most cited condition with 67.1% of respondents recording feeling depressed during the past period. Meanwhile, 53.5% reported experiencing anxiety, 48.8% reported stress, and 23.1% of Egyptians said they were sleeping less than six hours a day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to <\/strong><strong>combat the stress<\/strong><strong>? Get an orchestra-sound-composed car: <\/strong>US automaker Lincoln is putting stress relief at the forefront of its new Nautilus model, which it describes as a \u201csanctuary\u201d for riders. Other than the massage-enabled seats, sound-dampening exterior, and vents that emit refreshed air, Lincoln tapped the Detroit Symphony Orchestra to compose soft chimes to play when performing functions in the car. \u201cThe door opens and it really feels like a human hug,\u201d says Lincoln\u2019s design director Kemal Curic. (Though the symphonic chimes definitely put a smile on our face (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=416136415679352\">watch, runtime: 02:20<\/a>), we\u2019re not sure what sort of human hugs Curic has been experiencing if they\u2019re comparable to a car door opening).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aromatherapy and other ambiance creating products are also making a splash: <\/strong>Scented candles, sprays, and essential oils have been a thing for a while, but our sentimental olfactory system gave companies who sell these products a <a href=\"https:\/\/universe.byu.edu\/2020\/05\/06\/essential-oil-sales-trend-up-during-covid-19\/\">major boost in sales<\/a> during the pandemic. Egypt is no stranger to the trend, with brands such as <a href=\"https:\/\/areejaromatherapy.com\/\">Areej<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nefertaribodycare.com\/\">Nefertari<\/a> offering scents that help alleviate stress, induce sleep, and increase productivity. Not to mention, they could help protect against covid-19, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7427755\/\">study<\/a> that looked at essential oils' antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Even our water intake can be stress relieving: <\/strong>In the US, PepsiCo has been rolling out new products that help consumers unwind, such as their blackberry and lavender flavored water <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drinkdriftwell.com\/\">Driftwell<\/a> for pre-bedtime relaxation. In May, the company also rolled out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getsoulboost.com\/\">Soulboost<\/a>, a sparkling water brand that claims its products can support relaxation, among other things. Here in Umm El Donia, the closest equivalent we can think of is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gourmetegypt.com\/dasani-antioxidant-water\">Dasani\u2019s antioxidant water bottle line<\/a> which helps \u201cprotect body cells from damage caused by stress\u201d the label claims.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other Egyptian products targeted towards the stressed-out:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Relaxation herbal tea from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imtenan.com\/ProductDetails\/Relaxation-tea-18-Tea-Bag?lang=en\">Imtenan<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Stress relief oil by Noon, sold on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sourcebeauty.com\/product\/stress-relief-oil\/\">Source Beauty<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Anti-stress coloring books that you can find in <a href=\"https:\/\/diwanegypt.com\/\">Diwan Bookstore<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/AlefBookstores\/\">Alef Bookstores<\/a>, or Virgin Megastore. <\/li>\n<li>Fidget or squeeze toys from <a href=\"https:\/\/kassemstore.com\/product-category\/toys\/fidget-toys\">Kassem Stores<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>This <a href=\"https:\/\/egypt.souq.com\/eg-en\/zen-natural-head-massager-7432206\/i\/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw0K-HBhDDARIsAFJ6UGhLiRjtNPPjH2-kFIV7AzxleBBq4m-6KbT-MVrdJOz6WOljNB4gZFMaAh3QEALw_wcB\">scalp massager<\/a> or this heated <a href=\"https:\/\/egypt.souq.com\/eg-en\/massage-comfortable-pillow-neck-back-messaging-technique-heating-shiatsu-deep-kneading-76887117\/i\/\">neck massage pillow<\/a> available on Souq.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Our take: <\/strong>While musical cars, nice candles, and fizzy water might not be scientifically sound methods of effectively relieving stress in the long term, it\u2019s always nice to find small things during the day that put a smile on your face or give you a sense of relaxation. That having been said, tacking the words \u201crelax\u201d \u201czen\u201d or \u201cdetoxify\u201d onto an item doesn\u2019t make it a good product, and the prevalence of this trend has us rolling our
