Consequently, inflation is the big concern both domestically and internationally, thanks to the continued commodities price boom of 2021.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"tldr-story-02\" class=\"content-anchor\"><\/a><strong> Not helping matters was o<\/strong><strong>il hitting a 32-month high yesterday, with futures rising 0.9% in New York<\/strong>, reflecting bolstered demand in the US and Europe as vaccine rollouts continue, as well as the expected delay in reviving the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-06-13\/oil-holds-near-71-as-traders-assess-rising-demand-iran-talks?srnd=premium-middle-east\">Bloomberg<\/a>. Negotiations to reactivate the agreement were expected to be complete before Iran\u2019s elections take place this Friday, a target which seems increasingly unlikely to be met. Increased road and air traffic in the West has also given investors a bullish outlook on crude, with some forecasting continued price increases over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inflation will be front and center when the Fed\u2019s Open Market Committee kicks off its two-day meeting tomorrow, <\/strong>especially after a heated US consumer prices report <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/06\/14\/rising-inflation-ahead-of-fed-rates-meeting-how-to-play-it.html\">out last week<\/a> and May prices coming 5% <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/06\/10\/inflation-hotter-than-expected-but-transitory-wont-affect-fed-policy.html\">higher than forecasts<\/a>. Market watchers floated the idea that inflation will prove short-lived, and no policy action is to be expected. Investors will still, however, be on the lookout for clues on how and when the Fed will shift its policy stance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Fed is pushing the idea that \u201cthe current spike in inflation is transitory,\u201d <\/strong>and this week\u2019s meeting will be a test of this so-called \u201cnarrative,\u201d market sage Mohamed El Erian writes for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/46450be2-99dd-43ec-a9f3-9cf3c60d72e1\">the Financial Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REMINDER- It\u2019s <\/strong><strong>interest<\/strong><strong> rate day here on Thursday: <\/strong>The Central Bank of Egypt\u2019s (CBE) own Monetary Policy Committee meets on Thursday to review rates here at home. All 11 analysts and economists <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/1f456c5c-ed19-4468-bccf-817c0fa49938\">surveyed in our poll<\/a> are calling another hold as <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a19da710-1330-415c-8993-290f63133dcb\">inflation hit its highest level<\/a> all year in May as the global commodities boom began to hit the domestic economy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inflation will be something investors will be eyeing when looking at which emerging markets to invest in<\/strong>, according to a Bloomberg survey, with takers suggesting that the more an EM central bank promotes inflation control the more investors will likely jump in. They are expected to discuss the latest developments in Egyptian-Qatari relations since the Al Ula declaration was inked earlier this year. In late May, Al Thani met with Shoukry <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/03edaeff-c6b3-4045-82b6-421e85ee6348\">for the first time<\/a> in Cairo since the lifting of Egypt and the GCC\u2019s 2017 blockade on Qatar. Their meeting today comes ahead of the Arab League\u2019s meeting for \u201cemergency\u201d GERD talks in Doha tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD #2- US urges G-7 allies to take bolder stance against <\/strong><strong>China<\/strong>: President Joe Biden has called on democratic western allies to take a tougher stance on China and other \u201cautocratic governments around the world\u201d to curb their economic influence, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/0f24b0a9-1847-431c-807e-6e249fe7181b\">Financial Times<\/a> reports. Countering China was a key theme throughout the G7 summit, with the summit\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/4985e75f-c286-4b65-b646-5a4aa5766f03\">final communique<\/a> yesterday denouncing China over human rights abuses in Xinjiang, and asking for further probes into the origins of covid-19. The jab is expected to help fill in the global gap in vaccine availability, with the pharma firm pledging 1.1 bn doses to developing countries over the next year. <\/strong><strong>investors<\/strong>, who have one eye on the potential dangers ahead as price pressures grow, analysts tell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-06-13\/bond-funds-cheer-emerging-markets-moving-fast-to-choke-inflation?srnd=premium-middle-east&sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a>. Central bankers in developing countries are having to perform a delicate balancing act between supporting their economies \u2014 many of which are still facing covid-19 outbreaks \u2014 and keeping a lid on inflation, which threatens to become a problem thanks to a strong economic rebound and huge stimulus in advanced economies. \u201cInvestors will ultimately favor those countries in which central banks are able to get ahead of inflation,\u201d said an analyst at TS Lombard. \u201cIt\u2019s essential that central banks react proactively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exhibit A: Brazil.<\/strong> Brazil\u2019s central bank chief Roberto Campos Neto has made how he feels about inflation explicit, communicating in no uncertain terms that he will do whatever it takes to fight off inflation, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/brazil-inflation-may-rises-above-8-highest-since-sept-2016-2021-06-09\/\">rose to its highest rate in almost a quarter of a century<\/a> in May. This has been backed up by actions: the Brazilian central bank has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasdaq.com\/articles\/brazil-raises-interest-rates-to-3.5-with-second-aggressive-hike-2021-05-05\">twice hiked rates<\/a> aggressively since inflation began to tick upwards, with another increase expected later this week as prices continue to surge. Since the first hike, the Brazilian real has gained an EM-leading 9.2% and its bonds have returned 10%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exhibit B: Russia.<\/strong> Russia\u2019s central bank has taken a similarly tough approach to inflation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.themoscowtimes.com\/2021\/06\/11\/russia-raises-interest-rates-again-as-inflation-persists-a74196\">raising rates three times<\/a>, with another hike expected at their next meeting in July. This will help to support the ruble, which in turn could help the central bank contain inflation, said a fund manager at PineBridge Investments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the flipside, countries that are being lax on inflation aren\u2019t in investors\u2019 good books.<\/strong> Poland and Hungary are two examples of lower-yielding countries that have been happier to let prices rise. \u201cWe are cautious in the lower-yielding markets with high correlation to core rates and where risks of inflation becoming \u2018un-anchored\u2019 are most concerning,\u201d said a bond analyst at Pictet Asset Management.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fortunately, the Central Bank of Egypt isn\u2019t facing the same dilemma<\/strong>, given the global inflationary trend is yet to make its mark in Egypt. Even after <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a19da710-1330-415c-8993-290f63133dcb\">a slight increase in May<\/a>, the annual urban rate is still beneath the lower bound of the central bank\u2019s target range. Furthermore, inflation slowed down m-o-m, with urban prices rising 0.7% during the month, compared to an increase of 0.9% during April. Routines went out the window, with many reporting \u201cfeeling perpetually in sleep debt\u201d and experiencing increased anxiety.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cue sleep trackers as a solution for those restless nights:<\/strong> These devices claim to help people make informed decisions about how to optimize their sleep cycles by determining bedtime behavioural changes and recording patterns throughout their sleep.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do sleep trackers work?<\/strong> They collect data points throughout the night and translate this information into a sleep score. Many sleep-tracking technologies use accelerometers to track nocturnal movement and present sleep-stage data, with less movement equated to deeper sleep. They can also listen to your heart rate, trace your breathing patterns, and keep tabs on blood oxygen levels.
