Futures suggest Wall Street will match that slide, with the Dow, S&P and Nasdaq all set to open in the red later this afternoon. Look for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/global-stock-markets-dow-update-05-19-2021-11621410072?mod=hp_lead_pos1\">tech stocks to lead the decliners<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also: BTC is back below USD 40k again<\/strong>, hovering just under USD 38k after a brief rally overnight that saw it inch back above the USD 40k mark, according to a price quote at dispatch time. <strong>The currency tumbled 14% to fall below the USD 40k handle for the first time since February<\/strong>, continuing a major sell-off that began a week ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/05\/19\/bitcoin-btc-price-plunges-but-bottom-could-be-near-.html\">CNBC<\/a> reports. China\u2019s clampdown on crypto and the Elon Musk guy\u2019s tweets have sent BTC on a rollercoaster ride. Meanwhile, Ether \u2014 the second-largest cryptocurrency \u2014 fell almost 16% to USD 3k, while the joke that is Dogecoin was also down 16%. The sell-off has erased some USD 270 bn of value from the cryptocurrency market over the past day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And: Lots of our readers are on video calls right now.<\/strong> It\u2019s day two of Renaissance Capital\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/events.rencap.com\/MENAconference\/#18-May\">annual MENA Investor Conference<\/a> and the penultimate day of <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/5\/Research-avior-conference-17-May-21-English.pdf\">HC Securities virtual event on Egyptian equities (pdf)<\/a>. Both wrap up tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KEEP YOUR EYE ON: Shares of Integrated Diagnostics Holding (IDH) will begin trading <\/strong><strong>on the EGX tomorrow<\/strong> under the ticker IDHC after the London-listed company completes its dual-listing of a 5% stake.<\/p>\n<p><strong>** CATCH UP QUICK on the top stories from today\u2019s EnterpriseAM:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>More share sales in the pipeline:<\/strong> As many as five companies could sell shares on the EGX later this year, EGX boss Mohamed Farid <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/105f08f3-7047-411b-b2e6-02bb8b82c180\">told CNBC<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>More economic optimism:<\/strong> Renaissance Capital has <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/6bb18bfa-39fe-4f57-ae02-2d7688b688be\">upgraded its forecast<\/a> for Egypt\u2019s 2021 economic growth to 4.2% from 2.8%, which it says will be driven by the transport, tourism, and education sectors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Speed Medical is eyeing a 25% stake in healthcare software developer DG Well<\/strong> + is planning to set up <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/f9fc1da4-f798-4638-a2bb-85ad604ef9a5\">a consumer finance arm<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD- <\/strong><strong>France has been pushing for a UN Security Council resolution <\/strong><strong>to end the violence in Gaza<\/strong>, China\u2019s UN ambassador and council president, Zhang Jun, told the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/united-nations-middle-east-europe-israel-palestinian-conflict-business-3677c13020a928bb9ee3fed6cd685c12\">Associated Press<\/a>. The AP says Washington is blocking the security council from issuing a statement calling for a halt to the violence, insisting that \u201cit would not help diplomatic efforts to end the conflict between Israel and Hamas.\u201d <strong>France joins Egypt, which has been trying to <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/039377ac-4798-45c2-8c72-33391611063c\">mediate a ceasefire<\/a><\/strong> between Israel and Hamas. Some 219 people have been killed and 1.5k injured since 10 May with no clear sign of a ceasefire in view, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/ceasefire-still-elusive-israel-gaza-conflict-2021-05-18\/\">Reuters<\/a> adds. That\u2019s expanded to nearly all of our clients this year,\u201d he told the salmon-colored paper.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The returns are a lot higher:<\/strong> Investors are increasingly looking to markets like Egypt, Kazakhstan and Serbia, whose short-term bonds provide returns of up to 8%, while local-currency bonds from frontier markets pay an average yield as high as 9%. By contrast, the average coupon rate for bonds sold by conventional EM governments is lower than 5%, according to the JPMorgan GBI-EM global diversified index.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New frontier market bonds, indices: <\/strong>The European Investment Bank this week issued its first-ever bond backed by Georgia\u2019s local currency GEL. TCX, which participated in 100 of the 270 frontier currency-linked bonds sold in 2015, also recently launched an index that tracks bonds issued by EM-focused development lenders such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the African Development Bank. In both cases, the organizations responded to \u201cgrowing demand for and larger transactions in local currency offshore markets,\u201d says Matthijs Pinxteren, director of treasury at Dutch development bank FMO.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eyes on the Fed:<\/strong> While appetite for frontier local currency bonds is currently high, how long this lasts will depend on how investors think the Fed will respond to higher inflation, Renaissance Capital\u2019s global chief economist, Charles Robertson, said. A move to raise rates could precipitate a sell-off in frontier- and emerging-market assets, which we got <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/4a4f373f-fa8a-4243-a936-08ff7be3fd9c\">a taste of earlier this year<\/a> when yields on US treasuries rose in response to expectations for higher inflation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt isn\u2019t among the countries most vulnerable to a Fed-induced EM sell-off<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/09e9ba13-f649-43e3-8656-a1b5a4eeab4f\">according to HSBC<\/a>, which earlier this year suggested that a Fed rate-hike will spell particular trouble for Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Another thing supportive of capital flows to Egypt:<\/strong> Egypt could be re-included in the JPMorgan EM bond index before the year is out, which could see another <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/ea858526-5700-49cf-9a6c-4bb9a7b54d2a\">USD 1.4-2.2 bn<\/a> enter the country\u2019s local currency bond market. For these age groups, using traditional perks to get employees to work on-site from the office and boost their productivity is not an effective strategy, says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Flex-Reinventing-Work-Smarter-Happier-ebook\/dp\/B08B66NJDC\/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=\">Flex<\/a> author Annie Auerbach. In the post-pandemic world, these \u201cstay here tactics\u201d \u2014 like having ping pong tables and gyms in-house \u2014 will make way to a more empathetic managerial vision that is grounded in the understanding that staff members have a life outside their jobs, Auerbach says.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s wrong with the job hopping generation? <\/strong>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/231587\/millennials-job-hopping-generation.aspx\">2020 report<\/a> by Gallup found that 21% of millennials changed jobs in the last year, which was three times the number for non-millennials. \u201cThe reason they are going from one employer to another is because they are not getting what they are looking for,\u201d says Cooper.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Over 60% of employers are placing more emphasis on perks that promote physical and mental wellbeing<\/strong>, according to UK job rating site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glassdoor.co.uk\/blog\/less-than-half-of-employees-eager-to-return-to-office\/\">Glassdoor<\/a>. These include apps, private healthcare, and online therapy. The study found that almost nine in ten would be more likely to apply for a job at a company that took care of its employees.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>Some companies are tweaking perks to factor in debt relief: <\/strong>Google <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/inside-google\/life-at-google\/helping-googlers-tackle-student-loan-debt\/\">announced<\/a>it will match student loan repayments up to USD 2,500 a month from starting this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Providing flexible hours is not an advantage. It\u2019s a disadvantage not to:<\/strong> \u201cCompanies that don\u2019t have flexibility benefits as standard will really lose out,\u201d says tech consultancy Unleashed CEO Anouk Agussol, arguing that the freedom of choosing when to work weighs a lot more now than it did before the pandemic.<\/p>\n\t<\/div><!-- .entry-content -->\n\n\t\n<\/article><!-- #post-${ID} -->\n\n\n    <div
