No date has yet been set for the talks, \u00c7avu\u015fo\u011flu said. His statement comes after he exchanged Ramadan wishes on a call with Foreign Minister Sameh Shokry <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e5297135-86a3-4933-a7ed-1fe62d878683\">on Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Turkey has recently been trying to dial back tensions: <\/strong>Officials in Ankara told Turkish media in March to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/fd9bd86b-542e-46d6-a545-108fa6ec37d9\">tone down criticism of Egypt<\/a> that dates back to revolution that ended our Islamist interregnum in 2013. Cavusoglu <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/97a7c519-e6da-49a3-a333-d6aef5ec7f00\">also said<\/a> his country is willing to sign a maritime pact with Egypt, potentially ending Ankara\u2019s disputed territorial claims in the eastern Mediterranean and forcing it to recognize an <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/3c3ad5b2-df09-4b29-a8b0-493e1b964837\">agreement between Egypt and Greece<\/a> creating a joint economic zone in the region. Turkey opposed the Egypt-Greece agreement, claiming it infringes on its continental shelf and runs at odds with an agreement it signed with Libya <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/12\/19\/egypt-calls-on-un-to-reject-turkey-libya-maritime-security-agreements-8771\/\">in 2019<\/a>, which Egypt had originally rejected. We could now be closer to an agreement that could bring the neighbors closer together as Greece and Libya <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSKBN2C113P\">agreed this morning<\/a> to hold talks on their maritime zones. SFE CEO Ayman Soliman <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3g8Tupj\">said last month<\/a> the acquisition will be complete \u201cwithin weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s AIB?<\/strong> It bills itself as an \u201cinvestment and business bank\u201d under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aibegypt.com\/en\">aiBank<\/a> brand and has a full banking license, offering business, personal and Islamic banking at more than 30 branches nationwide. The transaction would effectively transform EFG Hermes into a universal bank.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is AIB worth?<\/strong> AIB's fair value is EGP 1.1 bn, according to the assessment from PricewaterhouseCoopers \u2014 EFG and SFE's independent financial advisor. The fund and EFG will purchase the stake through a capital increase.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who gets what?<\/strong> Once the sale closes, EFG will become AIB\u2019s controlling shareholder with a 51% stake, while the SFE will take no more than 25% through its financial services and digital transformation sub-fund. The state-owned National Investment Bank will retain a 24% stake of AIB post-transaction, having previously held 91.4% stake.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background: <\/strong>EFG Hermes and the SFE <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/493e0457-82af-4b27-9c7f-1ab2d8301a49\">announced in June<\/a> that they had been given the green light by the Central Bank of Egypt to start due diligence on the AIB. Yes, research shows that EVs will inevitably get cheaper, better and more diverse, but battery issues and a spotty charging infrastructure still pose a major challenge to mass-market EV adoption (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=pLcqJ2DclEg\">watch, runtime: 19:50<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The technology isn\u2019t yet at a tipping point:<\/strong> Major electric automakers are getting closer to the USD 36k price tag and the expected driving range of 291 miles that would ensure the mass proliferation of EVs among consumers, but reaching the 31 minute charging time that market research says consumers want is the largest barrier to its mass-market adoption. Tesla\u2019s Model S \u2014 which currently has the best charging time of EV models on the market \u2014 can barely charge its battery to 83% in half an hour, and this is in ideal conditions using one of Tesla\u2019s supercharging stations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The industry doesn\u2019t just need faster chargers, it also needs more of them<\/strong>, which is a big stumbling block due to the enormous cost of fast EV chargers. Tesla needs to build an additional 31.3k supercharging stations in the US, which would cost the company USD 7.8 bn, or almost 10x their total annual profits from 2020. But the infrastructure is still not ready to underpin such a breakthrough, and continues to undermine EV makers\u2019 ability to meet the mass-market demand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And the fundamental structure of electric grids is getting in the way:<\/strong> Alternating Current (AC) power is the standard for most electricity grids, but EV charges need a direct current (DC) supply to power up. This requires the integration of high wattage AC to DC power inverters to allow EVs to charge their batteries, which is both costly (around USD 58k) and about the size of a large fridge, hampering owners\u2019 ability to charge their EVs rapidly at home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt\u2019s journey towards an EV-powered future has its own hurdles \u2014 not least of which is the charging problem: <\/strong>The government plans to establish <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/2fa3cac6-21f1-4d7c-bf73-f6fd8b49d842\">3k EV charging stations<\/a> nationwide within three years, in addition to establishing electric vehicle parking and charging stations in shopping center garages and the Tahrir and Ramsis garages. Our friends at Infinity-E have also set up 130 charging points across the country, and other multinationals \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/01f0e9a3-95f3-473d-8ee9-aad4cad6d752\">including Schneider Electric<\/a> \u2014 are also looking to get in on the action. The good news for Egypt is that the costs of charging EVs (and owning them as a whole) are expected to drop over the years, once a critical mass of users is reached.
