The three countries\u2019 foreign, water and irrigation ministers are now sitting down to resume talks \u2014 presided over by Congolese President and current AU Chairman F\u00e9lix Tshisekedi \u2014 in the hopes of reaching a lawfully binding agreement, following meetings of the technical committees yesterday, it added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There\u2019s speculation that the three countries\u2019 leaders could meet on Tuesday if the ministerial talks fail to yield a breakthrough<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3rMvmuL\">Sky News<\/a> reports. The resumption of the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e2814907-6c27-4fbd-b5a8-08b5f653f687\">fraught negotiations<\/a> comes after President Abdel Fattah El Sisi <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/3a2840fd-8b01-420e-8826-6cc918bb0062\">indirectly warned<\/a> Addis Ababa that it wouldn\u2019t be allowed to take \u201ca drop of Egypt\u2019s water.\u201d Egypt has been pushing to rally international support on the GERD issue, with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman giving us <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/57d362a2-d08b-4d3d-a94a-9c59c03755f6\">public backing<\/a> as Ethiopia persists to continue plans to move ahead with the reservoir\u2019s second filling in the upcoming rainy season in August.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD- <\/strong><strong>Washington and Tehran have agreed to hold indirect talks starting this Tuesday in<\/strong><strong> Vienna to warm up for the revival of the 2015 Iran nuclear accord<\/strong>, almost three years after former President Donald Trump had pulled the US out of the agreement, the US State Department said in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/briefings\/department-press-briefing-april-2-2021\/\">a statement<\/a> Friday. The talks are considered a starting point \u201cto clearly identify sanctions lifting and nuclear implementation measures,\u201d Chairman of the organization overseeing the nuclear agreement Enrique Mora said in a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3rPUtNk\">statement<\/a>. However, Tehran appears to be taking an all or nothing approach, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-04-03\/iran-won-t-negotiate-step-by-step-return-to-nuclear-deal?srnd=premium-middle-east&sref=mmeFTDW1\">a foreign ministry spokesperson said<\/a> it wouldn\u2019t negotiate a step-by-step reentry to the agreement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MANDATORY COVID STORY-<\/strong> <strong>Pfizer and Bio<\/strong><strong>NTech\u2019s covid-19 shot continues to be over 91% effective six <\/strong><strong>months after inoculation<\/strong>, showing just a slight downgrade from the 95% efficacy reported from a clinical trial in November, according to follow-up data from a final stage trial of the vaccine, the drugmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pfizer.com\/news\/press-release\/press-release-detail\/pfizer-and-biontech-confirm-high-efficacy-and-no-serious\">announced Thursday.<\/a> Preliminary results from a subset study also indicated the vaccine was effective against the South Africa variant of the virus. The company has wrapped up a final valuation study and completed other necessary procedures and is now waiting for the government committee managing the state privatization program to review the paperwork, Sarhan said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>E-Finance was earlier expected to complete the listing in the <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/12\/09\/egypt-gears-up-to-bring-e-finance-ipo-bdc-stake-sale-to-market-in-1q2020-8002\/\">first<\/a><\/strong><strong> or <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d12f629a-4a0c-47e0-8286-84e15c079439\">second<\/a><\/strong><strong> quarters of the year,<\/strong> but a hold-up in a fair value report scheduled to be completed <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/50a64c3c-0ce1-414e-9c1a-fda33b245132\">at the end of January<\/a> delayed that plan. The IPO was originally slated for the end of 2019, before the government kicked <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/09\/01\/wave-two-of-egypts-state-privatization-program-kicked-to-early-2020\/\">all upcoming<\/a> state IPOs into 2021, citing unexpected delays, and then further into 2021.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The time is right: The dust is now settling after \u201cunfavorable conditions\u201d (read: covid-19) in public markets set back the listing<\/strong>, Sarhan told the newspaper today. The company has been waiting for signs of a recovery, he says.<\/p>\n<p><strong>E-Finance\u2019s EGX debut would piggyback on momentum from several listings that are coming up after a long period of inactivity.<\/strong> Another state-owned company expected to make a hotly-anticipated debut on the exchange is Banque du Caire, but we\u2019re yet to hear more on the offering, which could take place <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a415199c-879d-44cc-9c9d-2db535e12dac\">by the end of 2021<\/a>. As for the private sector, higher education management company Taaleem is set to begin trading on Wednesday, after seeing <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/9b4f4fd0-2ce2-44d7-9de4-e0cb71aabbba\">high demand from retail investors<\/a> last week, and leading cosmeceutical and nutraceutical player Macro Pharma <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e7b185ef-8845-4573-9b36-31998bb84ee7\">will start trading on 19 April<\/a> as it wraps up another IPO. Those IPOs are among a total of <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/da9fe7d5-87d0-47a8-862e-64973f50d038\">five or six<\/a> that could hit the exchange this year, EGX boss Mohamed Farid expects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the meantime, e-Finance is ramping up investments in three core projects:<\/strong> The first is a plan to set up <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/87b20875-6cf8-4b69-a510-f299a67fe936\">E-Tax<\/a>, a EGP 100 mn JV with the Finance Ministry to provide services and tech solutions to companies and authorities as Egypt transitions toward an electronic tax system. IDH\u2019s expansion plan for Egypt includes inaugurating a third branch of <a href=\"https:\/\/alborgscan.com\/en\/about-us\">Al Borg Scan<\/a>. The Heliopolis facility will be added alongside existing branches in Shobra and Mohandeseen, with an eye to operate six sites of the scan centers across Egypt by the end of 2022, according to El Sherbini.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The LSE-listed consumer healthcare giant is also planning to set up at least 28 branches in Nigeria in 2022<\/strong>, where it operates a network of medical diagnostics labs, El Sherbini said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IDH\u2019s footprint: <\/strong>The company operates 429 branches in Egypt, including its flagships <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alborglab.com\/index-en.html\">Al Borg Laboratories<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.almokhtabar.com\/\">Al Mokhtabar<\/a>. Its central <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idhcorp.com\/operations\/mega-lab\/\">Mega Lab<\/a> is the Middle East\u2019s largest facility of its kind and can run 20k tests per hour on global-standard equipment. \u0650It controls over half of Egypt\u2019s private diagnostics markets and has a total of 480 branches across the four countries in which it\u2019s present.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EGX listing plans: <\/strong>IDH is listed on the LSE, and had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketscreener.com\/quote\/stock\/INTEGRATED-DIAGNOSTICS-HO-22148927\/company\/\">a market cap<\/a> equivalent to USD 642 mn in early April 2021. It became the first Egyptian healthcare company to IPO in London when it sold 43.5% of its shares in 2015, raising USD 290 mn in an offering that was <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2015\/05\/11\/new-cairo-property-prices-up-10-15-since-january-hanafy-savaged-over-rising-food-prices-govt-looks-to-up-internet-penetration-rate-sinai-tribes-joining-war-on-terror-salman-hamad-skip-w\/\">11x oversubscribed<\/a>. The company is now planning to debut in Cairo through a technical listing (which involves listing shares but not offering new equities for sale) in a bid to get new investors on board. The latter two methods appeared to increase during the pandemic, as criminals took advantage of banks moving customer interactions online by exploiting difficulties in verifying customer identity. With the pandemic also leaving many businesses in financial need, criminals began to use legitimate, but failing businesses as a front for illegal activity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are countries doing to prevent this? <\/strong>The US introduced the <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2PVlYYu\">Anti-Money Laundering Act<\/a> last year which obliged banks and other financial institutions to take stricter measures to detect suspicious activity while also giving more power to authorities to demand documents from foreign banks. Though silicon has served as a reliable base for the last 70 years, it is nearing the limits of its potential to support technological advancement. Moore\u2019s law \u2014 a theory that the number of transistors you can fit onto a silicon microchip doubles every year \u2014 is slowing down, and researchers have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1369702116302917\">identified hundreds of materials<\/a> that fall under the 2-D family that could help us fit more transistors onto ever thinner microchips, to power the pocket-sized supercomputers of the future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are 2-D materials?<\/strong> The atom-thin substances include black phosphorus, transition metal dichalcogenides and boron nitride nanosheets, as well as the forerunner of them all, graphene, the discovery of which earned its makers a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nobelprize.org\/prizes\/physics\/2010\/illustrated-information\/\">Nobel prize in physics<\/a>. Though recently obscure, these materials are now regularly fabricated in labs and can be found in devices on sale today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Graphene has already found a number of applications<\/strong>, having been used to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/259756406_'Graphene_Thermal_Properties_and_Applications_for_Thermal_Management_of_Li--Ion_Batteries'\">cool smartphone batteries<\/a>, make <a href=\"https:\/\/thetrek.co\/gear-review-inov-8-terraultra-g260-shoes-with-graphene-grip\/\">athletic gear more durable<\/a>, and to manufacture <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/dn26626-bulletproof-graphene-makes-ultra-strong-body-armour\/\">prototypes for bulletproof armour<\/a>. Graphene has even been used to develop biosensors with applications such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.army.mil\/article\/243763\/army_scientists_partner_with_darpa_to_develop_covid_19_sensor\">detecting covid-19 particles<\/a> and other pathogens in the air, or scanning virtually any biological matter for contamination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But 2-D materials\u2019 key use will be in the development of microchips<\/strong>, with scientists positing that the development of chips that support photons rather than electrons could significantly accelerate our computer power, as light is a far faster means of communication than electricity. In addition, 2-D materials could also beat silicon when it comes to chip stacking, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-secret-to-techs-next-big-breakthroughs-stacking-chips-1511034248?mod=article_inline\">already common<\/a> in flash memory and mobile devices. Because 2-D materials are so thin, stacking the chips would add significant power to a device without increasing its size, while the heat dissipating qualities of graphene mean devices would not be in danger of overheating.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The graphene-silicon combo could also create better cameras<\/strong> that are ultrathin and ultrasensitive, because graphene can yield optical sensors a hundred times more sensitive to light than those made with silicon. Graphene-based materials can also make inexpensive, high-resolution infrared mobile cameras, which are <a href=\"https:\/\/spie.org\/news\/spie-professional-magazine-archive\/2018-january\/imaging-visible-and--ir-light?SSO=1\">already in the prototype stage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Future applications of 2-D materials we\u2019re likely to see over the next decade<\/strong> include adding new features to known devices, like infrared vision to smartphones, as well as creating computing devices that are far <a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/graphene-computers-work-1000-times-faster-use-far-less-power\">more powerful and more energy efficient<\/a> than those we know today. This could enable new forms of human-computer interaction, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2013\/06\/augmented-reality-new-graphene-light-sensor-is-better-by-orders-of-magnitude\/\">augmented-reality systems<\/a> that fit into everyday eyeglasses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But 2-D materials still can\u2019t beat silicon on manufacturability<\/strong>, and that may be the key to keeping us silicon-dependent. Researchers are still looking for the right balance between desirable traits, cost-efficiency, and manufacturability, before being able to take 2-D materials mainstream. For now, 2-D materials occupy a marginal space in the semiconductor and tech industry at large, but as we stretch silicon to its absolute limits with our research into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-decade-of-quantum-computing-is-upon-us-ibm-exec-says-11614802190\">quantum computing<\/a>, and our demand for ever faster and smaller devices, we are paving
