Egypt is offering the 6-year bonds at a yield of 6.125%, while the 12- and 30-year bonds carry yields of 7.625% and 8.875%, respectively. Maait did not say how big the offering is.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Piggybacking off the Fed:<\/strong> Maait hinted that the US Federal Reserve\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/43b8fb8c-adc9-4a5d-83c2-fba569faf89c\">decision<\/a> yesterday to push its expected tapering of its stimulus program to November made it the right time to go to the markets now before US bonds become more competitive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advisers:<\/strong> HSBC, FAB, Citibank, Standard Chartered, and JP Morgan are advising on the sale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>^^We\u2019ll have updates on <\/strong>demand for the bonds in Sunday\u2019s <strong>EnterpriseAM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-02\"><\/a> <strong>#2- Is Mercedes-Benz one step closer to resuming assembling in Egypt? <\/strong>Mercedes-Benz received a 20k sqm plot of land in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), which will be used as a logistics base that will distribute cars locally and for re-export, SCZone head Yehia Zaki tells us, confirming a story that first ran this morning in <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3lTGXY6\">Al Borsa<\/a>. The logistics hub will also see the company warehouse and distribute components and spare parts, says Zaki. The company had signed the agreement for the logistics base <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/06\/25\/egypt-signs-agreement-for-mercedes-benz-to-bring-its-automotive-assembly-to-the-sczone\/\">back in 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Does that mean assembly is back on the table?<\/strong> <strong>That\u2019s not clear yet,<\/strong> and Zaki would not comment on when it may actually happen. The company got our hopes up back <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/09\/10\/mercedes-benz-egypt-selects-egyptian-german-automotive-co-to-assemble-cars\/\">in September 2019<\/a>, when it said it expected to produce its first locally assembled vehicle in years by the second half of 2020. Government sources <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/f0285bb0-da9f-4bc1-a5d5-9254e0f3380e\">told us last year<\/a> that local assembly would resume \u201csoon.\u201d The pandemic and the subsequent global chip shortage have created havoc for the global auto industry, and we haven\u2019t heard news of the company\u2019s plans to resume assembly in the months since.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background: <\/strong>The luxury carmaker shut down its local assembly in Egypt in mid-2015, saying at the time that Egypt\u2019s trade agreement with the EU \u2014 which saw tariffs on European cars to zero as of 1 January 2019 \u2014 would make it economically infeasible to continue its local assembly operations here long-term.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IN OTHER AUTO NEWS- <\/strong>Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly met with the regional heads of Nissan, Skoda, and other big brand cars today with a view to enticing them to assemble vehicles here, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3i2cjuq\">a cabinet statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-03\"><\/a> <strong>#3- Egypt and the US are looking forward to strengthening bilateral ties<\/strong>, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said in a meeting yesterday in New York City on the margins of the UN General Assembly, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/eg.usembassy.gov\/secretary-blinkens-meeting-with-egyptian-foreign-minister-shoukry\/\">statement<\/a> by the US embassy in Egypt. The pair discussed regional issues including Israeli-Palestinian relations, Libya, and Egypt\u2019s leadership of the fledgling Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The US is pushing for Egypt to improve its record on human rights<\/strong> to \u201cfacilitate\u201d a \u201cstrengthened partnership,\u201d including through implementing measures arising from the country\u2019s first national human rights strategy, announced <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/c39edc47-c053-4584-b191-c528c26fdacf\">earlier this month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More to come: <\/strong>Blinken and Shoukry agreed to meet again to discuss regional issues, human rights, security cooperation, and economic relations, the statement said without specifying a date.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IN OTHER DIPLOMACY NEWS- Sweden wants to help our green transition.<\/strong> Swedish Trade Minister Ann Hallberg is town for meetings with cabinet ministers. She noted that a number of institutions are willing to fund Egyptian companies in the green economy during her meeting with Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3AzZuin\">a cabinet statement<\/a>. She also discussed support for smart city tech in Egypt\u2019s cities with Deputy Housing Minister Khaled Abbas, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3ACG1xo\">a cabinet statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-04\"><\/a> <strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD- <\/strong><strong>With Xi Jinping\u2019s ruling party reluctant to bail out China <\/strong><strong>Evergrande, Beijing is telling local officials to make preparations for a \u201cpossible storm,\u201d <\/strong>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/china-makes-preparations-for-evergrandes-demise-11632391852?mod=hp_lead_pos1\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> reports in an exclusive. Traders\u2019 attention has been split between the Fed and Evergrande all week, and pundits who have suggested that we need not worry about a collapse of Evergrande may be mistaken. <strong>Beijing is now bracing for \u201csocial and economic fallout\u201d in the event Evergrande collapses.<\/strong> \u201cLocal governments have been tasked with preventing unrest and mitigating the ripple effect on home buyers and the broader economy, for example by limiting job losses\u201d in the event the country\u2019s second-largest home builder fails.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What to watch for next: <\/strong>The world\u2019s most-indebted company has a big interest payment due today on its offshore debt, and regulators have \u201casked\u201d it to \u201cavoid a near-term default,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china\/chinas-evergrande-faces-key-deadline-investors-await-outcome-2021-09-23\/\">Reuters<\/a> notes.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-05\"><\/a> <strong>HAPPENING NOW- Global markets have (for the most part) taken in stride the Fed\u2019s <\/strong><strong>signals on the tapering of stimulus<\/strong> this fall and an <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/43b8fb8c-adc9-4a5d-83c2-fba569faf89c\">interest rate hike as early as next year<\/a>, which we covered earlier today in EnterpriseAM. <strong>European markets are all handily in the green<\/strong> this morning. Futures show North American markets following suit later today. cites people familiar with the matter. Selling Amazon\u2019s own labels as well as products from other sellers on the platform, the department store is a way to improve brand recognition and test out a new model for brick and mortar retailers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bringing the Whole Foods model to dept stores: <\/strong>One idea is to make the fitting rooms the main attraction, sources said. Customers will browse the score and scan the QR codes for items they like and sales representatives will collect them and place them in the fitting room. Once there, customers can use a touch screen to ask for different sizes, colors, or altogether new products recommended by the all-knowing Amazon algorithms. Another idea is to deploy robots and other forms of automation. Amazon had been playing with similar ideas after it acquired groceries chain Whole Foods.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amazon could open its flagship store by next year,<\/strong> but there are no plans set in stone just yet for how it will look like.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IN OTHER TECH NEWS- Ford, Redwood to recycle batteries and create closed supply <\/strong><strong>loop in the US: <\/strong>Ford has teamed up with Redwood Materials, the startup founded by Tesla alum JB Straubel, to recycle and reuse key ingredients within the lithium-ion batteries in Ford\u2019s upcoming EV fleet, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-09-22\/ford-redwood-partner-to-recycle-and-reuse-battery-materials?srnd=premium-middle-east&sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg Green<\/a>. Ford will initially source batteries from Korea\u2019s SK Innovation. Once finished, they\u2019ll move onto Redwood which will extract key metals such as lithium, cobalt, nickel and copper, and use them to build more batteries. Two episodes drop tomorrow, with a new installment every Friday thereafter. Showrunner David Goyer (known for his work on both superhero flicks and video games) sought permission from Asimov\u2019s family to \u201cgender flip\u201d a handful of characters to get some women into Asimov\u2019s almost-all-male books. <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/foundations-david-s-goyer-on-the-vital-changes-needed-1847682950\">Gizmodo has lots more<\/a> and the really damn good trailer is here (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=X4QYV5GTz7c\">watch, runtime: 2:48<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Looking for a more big screen experience? The lure of the 2021 remake of the sci-fi <\/strong><strong>classic Dune is enough to have us debating whether to cancel covid<\/strong>, with the film now in screens across the capital city. Based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dune-Frank-Herbert-ebook\/dp\/B00B7NPRY8\/\">1965 novel by Frank Herbert<\/a>, the film is the first of a two-part adaptation and covers the first half of the book. The all-star cast includes Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd, Zendaya and Jason Momoa, among others. The film is set on a desert planet best known as Dune \u2014 the only place in the universe for a life-extending compound known as the \u201cspice melange\u201d that also happens to make you super freaking smart \u2014 and that permits faster-than-light travel. You can catch the trailer for the film here (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8g18jFHCLXk\">watch, runtime: 3:27<\/a>)<sup><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why we\u2019re very excited about this one:<\/strong> Often hailed as one of the best sci-fi novel series ever written, Dune dives into themes of environmentalism, allegorical geopolitics (a desert, tribal land with Mahdis and Jihad that contains the most important resource out there does sound familiar), and the dangers of falling for charismatic leaders. Dune has also influenced much of popular sci-fi, with elements of the novels being supplanted into works such as Star Wars. Critics are already calling this adaptation far superior to David Lynch\u2019s 1984 adaptation, giving it a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/dune_2021\">Rotten Tomatoes<\/a> score of 90% certified fresh. <sup><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><strong>We\u2019d suggest watching the original 1984 film on Apple TV or on <\/strong><strong>Youtube <\/strong>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=S3VMfzoBO7Y\">watch, runtime: 3:04:34<\/a>) <sup><\/sup>and then heading to Vox Cinema at Mall of Egypt or City Centre Almaza to catch the remake, which starts playing in Egypt today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Classics including Willy Wonka, Matilda and The Witches are coming (some day) to <\/strong><strong>Netflix: <\/strong>The streaming giant has snapped up the entire works of Roald Dahl, buying the rights from the late author\u2019s family and acquiring Roald Dahl Story Company, Netflix said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3lRresr\">statement<\/a> without disclosing the size of the transaction. But under the agreement, Netflix has the rights to remake any movies and\/or adapt other characters and stories. There are several new projects already in the pipeline which include a Taika Waititi series inspired from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and another original take on the Oompa-Loompas. The IEA \u2014 which is payrolled by mostly Western nations to advise and intervene on energy supply \u2014 said that while Russia had fulfilled its contractual obligations to Europe, it could make more natgas available to alleviate the current squeeze. \u201cThis is also an opportunity for Russia to underscore its credentials as a reliable supplier to the European market,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Turning up the heat on Russia:<\/strong> Greedy energy companies, increased orders from Asia, and the switch to renewables have all been <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/43810271-f476-45f4-a10c-b256810304d8\">blamed for shortages<\/a> that have seen gas prices break records on the daily. But despite murmurs that Russia is withholding supply to force through a quick agreement on its new Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Europe, official fingers have until now been reticent to point the Kremlin\u2019s way. A Sciences Po professor and former oil and gas adviser at the French economy ministry said the IEA was \u201chighlighting what has been discussed in the industry for some time but many politicians in Europe have been hesitant to address \u2014 the role Russia has played in the current energy crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The US jumped at the chance to play hero<\/strong>, vowing to \u201cstand up to\u201d suppliers accused of manipulating prices, US energy secretary Jennifer Granholm said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/online-press-briefing-with-energy-secretary-jennifer-granholm\/\">press briefing<\/a>. The US will keep an eye on any possible manipulation of gas prices by hoarding or the failure to produce adequate supply, she added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OPEC doubled down on blaming climate activists<\/strong> for the crisis, calling for increased investment in fossil fuels: \u201cEmotions have overtaken industry facts,\u201d OPEC Secretary-General Mohammad Barkindo said on a panel with the Emirati and Qatari energy ministers, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-09-21\/opec-qatar-say-crisis-shows-more-investment-needed-gas-update?srnd=premium-middle-east&sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a>. \u201cCivil society and climate activists have taken over the space. Activist shareholders have held the industry nearly to ransom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>And Europe prayed for a mild winter: <\/strong>The head of Vitol, the world\u2019s biggest oil trader, said \u201cmarkets are frantic and panicky at the moment,\u201d adding that a warm winter in the northern hemisphere could be the only way to calm the volatility. The executive vice president of a French energy firm agreed: \u201cLittle can be done \u2026 We hope the start of the winter will not be too cold in the northern hemisphere. Otherwise, we are in trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The natgas crisis is leading to other problems as well, including shortages in CO2 and other gases: <\/strong>The carbon dioxide shortage taking place in the UK will spill over into Europe, distributor Nippon Gases tells the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/475ca564-66b1-49b7-b6ce-f6f682deeac8\">Financial Times<\/a>, pointing to its supplies falling 50% across the region. Fertilizer companies are the main source of CO2, but rising natural gas prices have forced many to suspend or lower operations. The CO2 shortages are affecting sectors from soft drinks and meat to steel and nuclear power plants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We don\u2019t want to keep harping on the point, but Russia really isn\u2019t the only place where Europe could get gas.<\/strong> The East Mediterranean is swimming in it, and the region\u2019s countries have gotten together to coordinate on the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/721b0df8-87fd-400e-af60-663496bde9e8\">East Mediterranean Gas Forum<\/a> with Cairo as the location of its HQ. Egypt\u2019s liquefaction plants, the only ones in the region, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/3613f080-5d75-4b85-af31-1b66fcda3204\">are due to receive<\/a> gas from Israel\u2019s Leviathan field and <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/ec322611-9b4d-4a61-8077-7bf2368af2ad\">steps are being taken<\/a> that would see gas from Cyprus\u2019
