The all-cash offer saw the consortium \u2014 which is 70% owned by Al Dar and 30% owned by ADQ \u2014 up its offer to EGP 20 per share from a <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/65445c53-bf8c-4144-8e37-6daa4e7031c0\">previous range<\/a> of EGP 18-19, and values SODIC at EGP 7.1 bn. The MTO is awaiting approval by the Financial Regulatory Authority, after which company shareholders will have 10-30 working days to respond.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The transaction would be great news for Egypt and the industry if it goes through<\/strong>, marking as it does the entry of a respected foreign strategic investor with a high competitive metabolism and proven systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#2- Is the Biden administration about to withhold a portion of its military aid to Egypt? <\/strong>That\u2019s the contention in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/09\/13\/biden-egypt-aid-511732\">Politico<\/a> story out this morning that quotes an unnamed US official as saying Secretary of State Anthony Blinken plans to take the \u201cunprecedented step\u201d of not signing a waiver that would have allowed some USD 300 mn in military assistance to be released despite \u201chuman rights concerns,\u201d the political news outlet noted. The story claims \u201csome \u2014 but not most\u201d of the funding will be withheld and that \u201cthe money that is being sent will also have restrictions on its use,\u201d positioning the move as a \u201ccompromise\u201d that may still \u201cdisappoint some lawmakers and activists worried\u201d about human rights here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#3- The Suez Canal Bank and AAIB are looking to snap up almost 90% of an <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d2379b41-d12e-41da-a8aa-0971bc8b04e1\">EGP 323 mn maiden securitized bond issuance<\/a><\/strong><strong> by EFG Hermes <\/strong><strong>buy-now-pay-later platform Valu<\/strong>, Suez Canal Bank Chairman Hussein Rifai tells us this afternoon. The two banks submitted offers worth EGP 145 mn each. ValU, EFG Hermes\u2019 consumer finance subsidiary, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d2379b41-d12e-41da-a8aa-0971bc8b04e1\">kicked off<\/a> its EGP 2 bn securitization program with an EGP 323 mn bond issuance, as we noted this morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#4- It\u2019s the final afternoon for EK Holding shareholders to convert the trading currency of their shares <\/strong><strong>to EGP from USD <\/strong>\u2014 while still being allowed to collect their dividends in USD. Word in the market is that the offering has been well-received.<\/p>\n<p><strong>^^ We\u2019ll have more on all of these stories <\/strong>in tomorrow\u2019s edition of Enterprise AM<\/p>\n<p><strong>HAPPENING NOW- The newly renovated tomb of King Djoser in Saqqara is open to the <\/strong><strong>public as of today. <\/strong>After undergoing renovation and restoration work since 2006, the tourist site was inaugurated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/moantiquities\/videos\/251800963491151\/\">yesterday<\/a> and opened its doors to visitors today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SMART POLICY #1- We\u2019re officially getting a <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/5a48e903-d707-4969-9ab6-be99c9b3cb91\">private sector minimum wage<\/a><\/strong><strong> next year, <\/strong>with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/524933771\/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%AF%D8%AF-%D8%B1%D9%82%D9%85-204-%D9%85%D8%A4%D9%85%D9%86#fullscreen&from_embed\">official gazette (pdf)<\/a> earlier this week publishing a decision by planning minister Hala El Said mandating a 2.4k minimum monthly wage for private sector employees as of January 2022. This is in line with public sector wage hikes: The minimum wage for public sector employees will rise <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/2e7f82a2-3966-456d-964e-aa822efc3046\">to EGP 2.4k from EGP 2k<\/a> from the beginning of FY2021-2022.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Caveat: <\/strong>Companies who claim they can\u2019t afford to pay the minimum wage can apply for an exception. They\u2019ll have until October to submit a request \u2014 we hope very, very few of them are granted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SMART POLICY #2- The government plans to use AI to manage customs and tax <\/strong><strong>procedures by the start of next year, <\/strong>the Finance Ministry said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/224131363090625\">statemen<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/224131363090625\">t<\/a>, in a bid to improve operational efficiency and crack down on tax evasion. The Oil Ministry has also said it is looking to digitize its petrol transport process, and has already begun implementing the SCADA system to oversee transport and distribution, it said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/224090696428025\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD- No single story has captured the imagination of the global <\/strong><strong>business press. <\/strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/fa7ff4c3-4694-4409-9ca6-bfadf3a53a62\">Financial Times<\/a> is looking at Amazon\u2019s push into the healthcare industry, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/09\/14\/uk-sets-out-covid-plan-for-fall-and-winter-booster-shots-to-begin-next-week.html\">CNBC<\/a> is leading with Boris Johnson\u2019s \u201cpandemic plan for fall and winter,\u201d which will include booster shots for folks over the age of 50. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/apple-fixed-iphone-flaw-let-hackers-spy-without-link-clicks-2021-9\">Business Insider<\/a>, meanwhile, notes that Apple wants you to \u201cupdate your iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch after it fixed a software flaw that let hackers spy without anyone clicking a link.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-02\"><\/a> <strong>WAIT, WHAT? SPYWARE? Yup. Apple has pushed out an emergency software update for <\/strong><strong>iPhones<\/strong> after they uncovered a \u201czero-click\u201d ransomware attack that runs through iMessage, according to a report by <a href=\"https:\/\/citizenlab.ca\/2021\/09\/forcedentry-nso-group-imessage-zero-click-exploit-captured-in-the-wild\/\">University of Toronto\u2019s Citizen Lab<\/a> seen by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afr.com\/technology\/apple-patches-security-flaw-that-leaves-users-vulnerable-to-spyware-20210914-p58rm0\">the FT<\/a>. The EU already has taxes in the works to impose on imports from heavier polluting countries, but these taxes are often protested by other nations who see them as trade tariffs. It is unclear whether all countries will be on board, with the US, China and India preferring to stick to domestic regulations. The mini series will keep you on the edge of your seat, though there was perhaps too much going on in just seven episodes. Despite its many twists and turns, the show is still well-paced, with a mind-blowing finale and a closure that will keep you satisfied. Winslet\u2019s performance shines through in this gritty role that demonstrates her range as an actress. We\u2019re rooting for the show at the Emmys next Monday, where it has been nominated for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emmys.com\/shows\/mare-easttown\">16 awards<\/a> including outstanding limited series and outstanding actress in a limited series. I graduated from Ain Shams Faculty of Commerce English, and began my career as an investment analyst in Mubasher, where I stayed for three years. I then moved to Ostoul Capital as a sell-side analyst before landing my current position at Misr Capital. We work the same way any analyst would, but don\u2019t publish our reports publicly instead keeping them for Banque Misr\u2019s portfolio and investment managers. I\u2019m also not sector specific, which I enjoy more as it gives me more exposure to the market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My favorite sector to cover is consumers.<\/strong> The names are recognizable to me and I can see the dynamics on the ground. Other sectors are harder to cover as they have limited data \u2014 which is something that affects my coverage by not giving me a clear picture. At the end of the day, each sector is quite different in terms of how one should analyze and judge it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The best part of my job is there\u2019s always more to learn and know.<\/strong> Sometimes I think that \u2018khalas I know everything about this sector\u2019, but then you find a new thread that leads to undiscovered territory. When I\u2019m out with friends, whether they work in petrochem or finance, I realize that I know certain details and dynamics about their sectors, which makes me feel good about myself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The worst part of my job is the same as everyone else\u2026 the stress [laughs]. <\/strong>Markets move so quickly and you have to be fast. Covering different sectors also means that I need to keep up with what seems like every new development in the news. I\u2019ve started doing yoga and meditation to manage my stress. It helps keep my anxiety down and keep me grounded.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My theory of investment is to go for quality names that have room to grow<\/strong>, especially if they have reasonable valuations. Quality is proven historically so you can predict firms\u2019 behavior. And of course, fundamentals are always key. Even if it\u2019s not an immediate result, when you move based on fundamentals, the market will eventually correct itself and give you a return.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sometimes I like to pick a theme that fits the macro picture, and invest based on that.<\/strong> If there\u2019s a certain development happening in the news such as subsidies to a certain sector or if there\u2019s a push by the state to develop a sector, I bet that it will affect firms\u2019 valuations. Most of the time it does actually materialize.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One of the most important factors we look at before recommending an investment has recently become ESGs.<\/strong> In the past few years, we\u2019ve been constantly applying ESGs in our investment criteria and assessing how compliant firms are by giving them ranks and scores. This came as international investors started increasingly giving weight to the environmental and social impacts of companies as well as their governance standards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I think 2022 could be the year of Egypt on both the macro and capital markets front. <\/strong>There\u2019s a lot of pent-up investment demand that will materialize once the uncertainty of the situation fades a bit. However, I can\u2019t really say how the EGX30 will perform for the rest of the year. There\u2019s a definite recovery after last year\u2019s impact from the pandemic and the factors point to more recovery going forward. This last earnings season really highlighted this, with a ton of companies reporting great financials. Other good indicators are forecasted positive economic growth, the vaccine rollouts progressing, and the resumption of tourism.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I\u2019m more of a numbers person<\/strong>. I just know how to work with them better.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The last great thing I watched was <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/title\/80244630\">Behind Her Eyes<\/a><\/strong><strong>.<\/strong> The plot was very surprising and kept me hooked. I\u2019m more of a movie person though and my favorites are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0119217\/\">Good Will Hunting<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0100405\/\">Pretty Woman<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0879870\/\">Eat Pray Love<\/a>. I think you can see a pattern forming\u2026 I\u2019m very much into the classics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The last great thing I read is <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/55994372-the-paper-palace\">Paper Palace<\/a><\/strong><strong>.<\/strong> I honestly picked it up randomly because it was a New York Times Bestseller, but I enjoyed how it explored a life changing decision.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When I\u2019m not on the clock, I love to cook and style food.<\/strong> I always imagine being a food blogger and getting to taste items off all of the new menus in Egypt. When I travel, I\u2019m always on the hunt for new and authentic food from each country.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>State-owned Egyptian Chemical Industries (Kima) reported losses of EGP 1.33 bn during <\/strong><strong>2Q2021<\/strong>, according to a company <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/9\/268304_1.pdf\">release (pdf)<\/a>. That\u2019s about on par with the EGP 1.35 bn in red ink on the bottom line in the same quarter last year and came despite a 443% rise in revenues to EGP 1.4 bn in 2Q2021 from EGP 315 mn in the comparable period last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MARKET WATCH-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The EGX30 rose 0.4% at today\u2019s close<\/strong> on turnover of EGP 1.7 bn (9.8% above the 90-day average). Regional investors were net buyers. The index is up 3.1% YTD.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the green: <\/strong>Elsewedy Electric (+6.4%), TMG (+3.5%) and Pioneers Holding (+3.3%).<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the red: <\/strong>EKH (-1.5%), Rameda
