We hope you have a wonderful time with family and (for the sociable among you) friends.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HAPPENING NOW-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-01\"><\/a> <strong>e-Finance shares pop 50% in EGX debut:<\/strong> State-owned fintech platform and payments infrastructure provider e-Finance saw its shares rise 50.2% in their first day of trading on the EGX, closing at EGP 21 after opening at EGP 13.98. Shares were up c. 80% at their peak. The company sold 26.1% of its shares \u2014 which are now trading under the ticker EFIH \u2014 in the first activity in the state\u2019s privatization program since tobacco maker Eastern Company\u2019s secondary stake sale in <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2019\/03\/05\/eastern-tobaccos-public-offering-42-3-covered-on-second-day-of-subscription\/\">March 2019<\/a>. At some EGP 5.8 bn (nearly USD 370 mn) it\u2019s the EGX\u2019s biggest IPO since 2015. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/e-finance-rises-40-after-pricing-egypts-largest-ipo-since-2015-2021-10-20\/\">Reuters<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-10-20\/egypt-s-biggest-ipo-since-2015-soars-in-highly-anticipated-debut?sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a> both have the story, and you can <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.efinanceinvestment.com\/en\">check out their investor relations microsite here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ALSO- Renaissance Capital still sees Egypt\u2019s GDP growing 4.2-5% in 2021 and 2022<\/strong>, but is now penciling in higher inflation in FY2021-2022, the investment bank said in a research note yesterday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>^^ We\u2019ll have more in Sunday\u2019s edition of EnterpriseAM. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SOME MORE GOOD NEWS as we slide into the long weekend-<\/strong> We now officially have 98 women judges at the Council of State (Maglis El Dawla) after they were sworn in earlier this week, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.almasryalyoum.com\/news\/details\/2442457\">Al Masry Al Youm<\/a>. This marks the first time the council has ever had women judges \u2014 a move that was put in motion after President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued orders <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/373425bf-073e-43ac-ba60-5b160a912d7c\">back in March<\/a> to bring women into Maglis El Dawla and the Supreme Judicial Council. The judges were transferred from other judicial bodies, including the State Lawsuits Authority and the Administrative Prosecution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SOUND SMART- These councils are important because of their purviews.<\/strong> Maglis El Dawla is the country\u2019s administrative court system and is mandated with judicial matters related to the government \u2014 and its approval is oftentimes required for legislation before the House of Representatives passes it. The Supreme Judicial Council\u2019s mandate covers administrative issues of the judiciary and is responsible for selecting the country\u2019s Prosecutor General.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-02\"><\/a> <strong>LESS GOOD NEWS- There\u2019s going to be lots more of us by 2032<\/strong> \u2014 like a total of 123 mn of us. And that\u2019s a best-case scenario: If we don\u2019t start learning to fill those quiet evenings with something else, state statistics agency Capmas reportedly thinks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.egypttoday.com\/Article\/1\/109027\/Egypt-s-population-to-reach-123M-in-2032-average-age\">there could be 130 mn of us<\/a> by then.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD?<\/strong> It\u2019s still a pretty \u201cmeh\u201d day in the global press so far, with no single story leading the conversation. Mitsotakis also reiterated how critical Egypt-generated power will be to the \u201cthe stability of the European grid,\u201d saying that it \u201cneeds to find its way into the European grid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fertiglobe has raised some USD 795 mn through its IPO on the ADX<\/strong> this week after the company listed a total 13.8% stake on the exchange at AED 2.55 a piece, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/10\/completion-of-fertiglobe-ipo-bookbuilding-process-and-final-offer-price-announcement_vf.pdf\">a statement (pdf)<\/a>. This comes after the company had<a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/3c89de9d-f323-47a6-9a59-209d03c6b987\">previously said<\/a> it would price its shares at AED 2.45-2.65 apiece, potentially paving the way for Fertiglobe to raise up to USD 830 mn from the offering. The nitrogen fertilizer producer\u2019s listing was still 22x oversubscribed and has become the third largest IPO on the ADX, valuing the company at USD 5.8 bn. Though the report says we\u2019re making progress on economic growth and employment, we lag the GCC countries in vaccine rollout \u2014 and can eventually look forward to lower debt levels than before the pandemic, the IMF said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The IMF revised its 2021 growth expectations for MENA slightly upward to 4.1% from 4%<\/strong> in its <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/5ef6b22b-dea2-4bf2-9beb-78c9146d2670\">most recent update in April<\/a>. The fund also sees GDP expanding at the same clip in 2022, which is also a slight upward revision from a previous forecast of 3.7% for next year. Both forecasts are a sharp rebound from last year\u2019s 3.4% contraction across the region. Inflation in MENA, meanwhile, is seen rising to 12.9% this year on the back of sharp increases in food and energy prices before stabilizing at 8% in 2022.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt will grow faster than the MENA average:<\/strong> The IMF recently said <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/0995771d-0f22-47c8-bfac-8ff7985fa0b0\">it expects Egypt to grow<\/a>at a 5.2% clip in FY2021-22. That\u2019s down 0.5 percentage points from the 5.7% forecast in April. The fund sees Egypt\u2019s inflation rate averaging 6.6% in 2021-2022, before ticking up to 6.9% the next year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The good news: <\/strong>Egypt is among \u201ca few countries\u201d that saw a strong rebound in the second half of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021 with strong economic growth, the fund wrote. Government figures for those two periods (1H2020-2021 and 3Q2020-2021) put economic growth at <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/99c37ce8-a356-4bc1-a235-68278c8f7ed9\">1.3%<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/dc06799e-2096-4852-a2f5-98a47b8417d0\">2.9%<\/a>, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Egypt is making progress on employment:<\/strong> \u201cAlthough a few countries appear to have seen a strong rebound in the second half of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021 (such as Egypt, Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan) \u2026 employment in most countries remains below its pre-pandemic levels,\u201d says the IMF.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But headwinds remain: <\/strong>Egypt is among the countries with a slower-than-average pace of vaccinations, according to a figure in the report plotting the doses administered on a log scale (pictured above). The Health Ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e7f8824b-e661-4ec0-a690-4a66ef91ecac\">recently said<\/a> that some 13 mn people in the 100 mn-strong country have received at least one dose of a vaccine. Most GCC countries on the other hand have reportedly reached 40% vaccination rates and expect to get to 70% by the end of 2021, the IMF says.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And MENA financing needs remain high: <\/strong>Gross government debt for oil importers in MENA, which include Egypt, has risen significantly throughout the pandemic, the report said. This has led to a nearly 50% upward tick in \u201cgross financing needs during 2021-2022\u201d to USD 390 mn compared to 2018-2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aggregate debt in MENA is also expected to tick up to 91.7% of GDP by the end of the year<\/strong>, up from 86.8% in 2020. The figure is then projected to gradually drop between 2022 and 2026, to eventually reach pre-crisis levels by 2023, the IMF said. Debt levels are projected to end up lower than they were pre-pandemic in countries including Egypt and Jordan, and higher in countries including Tunisia due to \u201cdivergent dynamics across countries over the medium term,\u201d the fund noted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The IMF\u2019s regional outlook update comes a few days after <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/0995771d-0f22-47c8-bfac-8ff7985fa0b0\">the lender released its updated World Economic Outlook<\/a><\/strong>, which said that inequality in the post-pandemic era is the most pressing threat to recovery, and pointed to the widening divide between developed and developing economies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other issues raised in the regional report:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Countries with weak vaccination rollout are at the risk of a new covid-19 wave,<\/strong> and those that are lagging behind tend to be either low-income or conflict-ridden countries relying on multilateral support to get hold of vaccines.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inflation is limiting the space for monetary policy-led growth<\/strong> in emerging MENA countries, aggravating \u201climited fiscal policy space\u201d and soaring commodity prices.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Real GDP is still expected to remain below pre-crisis forecasts<\/strong> by some 2.4% in the MENA region, primarily due to the uneven recovery.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Inequity in the region is on the rise<\/strong>, with lower skilled labor, young people, women, and migrant workers affected most by the pandemic, along with smaller firms, especially those in vulnerable sectors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t<\/div><!-- .entry-content -->\n\n\t\n<\/article><!-- #post-${ID} -->\n\n\n    <div
