The state-owned National Investment Bank will retain a 24% stake of aiBank post-transaction, having previously held 91.4%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do we mean when we say universal bank? <\/strong>With the completion of the transaction, EFG Hermes\u2019 Egyptian operations now include an investment bank, a commercial bank and a fast-growing non-bank financial services platform, \u201censuring that we can provide a holistic set of financial products and services to both retail and corporate clients alike in our home market,\u201d Group CEO Karim Awad said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The EGP 3.8 bn acquisition is a landmark for the Sisi administration<\/strong> as it looks to underscore its seriousness about partnering with the private sector to unlock growth. Critical here: The support of the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, which has built a solid track record as a trusted partner for private business, and of the Central Bank of Egypt, which gave the transaction the green light. The move, which came despite spiraling inflation in Ankara, pushed the TRY to new record lows against the USD. Meanwhile, equities in other emerging markets are coming under pressure after Indian digital payments and e-commerce app <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/breakingviews\/paytm-ipo-misery-leaves-indian-tech-looking-west-2021-11-18\/\">Paytm flopped in its stock market debut<\/a>, while investors are worried about a potential slowdown in China as the government appears unwilling to prop up its real estate sector, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/2cad070b-25f6-4709-b086-50a6fc891bd4\">Financial Times<\/a> says. The EGX closed down 1.0%, while the MSCI emerging markets index is down 0.87% so far today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s not all bad for Egypt: <\/strong>The TRY carry trade has been a consistent competitor for Egypt in our bid to attract foreign inflows \u2014 rate cuts in Ankara make our interest rates (already the highest in the world in real terms) look even more competitive. It also included a series of talks at AUC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/tcc.aucegypt.edu\/home\">Tahrir Cultural Center<\/a> in downtown.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The exhibition has made headlines a lot, but has also garnered somewhat mixed reviews.<\/strong> After launching to much fanfare, it was extended for ten days due to popular demand. In October, the exhibition made international headlines when customs officials \u201cdetained\u201d the British-built <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d09e8758-2a9d-4184-8451-22e6c35d92fb\">robo-artist Ai-Da<\/a> for 10 days ahead of the opening of the iconic exhibition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>That super famous installation of an optical illusion of the Great Pyramid? It\u2019s an <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/2021\/10\/jr-has-created-a-new-nft-installation-for-a-great-pyramid-of-giza-exhibition\/\">NFT<\/a><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> French street artist and photographer JR\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CVS1ngkNOwf\/?utm_medium=copy_link\">Greeting from Giza<\/a>, which makes it look as if there is a postcard with a giant hand holding up the top of the pyramid, with the top of the pyramid hovering above the rest of it when viewed from the right angle, was created as a non-fungible token or <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8115d23b-a850-4f0f-bc1a-4cb6ac56e437\">NFT<\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CVS1ngkNOwf\/?utm_medium=copy_link\">installation<\/a> has hieroglyphs hidden throughout and is broken up into 4,591 pieces \u2014 the exact age of the pyramids \u2014 is available as an NFT, or 4,591 NFTs to be exact.<\/p>\n<p class='web-image'><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2021\/11\/foreverisnow-evergreen-pic2-1600px.jpg?ssl=1\" alt='enterprise'><\/p>\n<p><strong>In our opinion, it all had a touch of gimmick to it<\/strong>, reminding us a little of our latest visit to the Museum of Illusions, where we had to be instructed on where to stand and how to take pictures to get it just right. That was one of the reasons that those queues kept getting longer \u2014 visitors had to figure out which angle was right to capture the optical illusion they were seeking (and that they had seen repeated so many times on their socials).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The site-specific pieces placed the world\u2019s oldest ancient wonders in the spotlight <\/strong><strong>\u2014 <\/strong><strong>but it\u2019s also super grounding. <\/strong>Forever is Now aimed to create a \u201cpowerful curatorial pairing\u201d by placing contemporary art in a historical setting, said Art D'\u00c9gypte founder Nadine Abdel Ghaffar in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=C4nld1QdygY\">video<\/a> promoting the exhibition, a sentiment that was echoed by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/news\/forever-now\">UNESCO<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But most interesting were the unintended consequences:<\/strong> From the wrong angle, the installations didn\u2019t quite line up or make sense \u2014 the most obvious example of this being British artists Shuster + Moseley\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CVSaCnmsC0r\/?utm_medium=copy_link\">Plan of the Path of Light<\/a>. If you zoomed out or just looked around, it looked like just about any tourist site in Egypt, with visitors being coaxed into taking camel rides or being carted around on horse and carriage. The construction (and demolitions) in the surrounding area gave the whole affair a little texture, which would have been a tad pretentious without it all.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The signage didn\u2019t serve the exhibition. At all. <\/strong>If you weren\u2019t wise enough to download the app before you went to the Giza plateau \u2014 which has spotty reception and not much in the way of internet service \u2014 you were likely left with more questions than answers about what the artists wanted to say through their pieces. The plaques, which were erected alongside each installation, were elusive at best, with most not providing any explanation at all of what it was you were looking at.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But hey, it was super accessible. <\/strong>On the upside, the exhibition was open to anyone visiting the pyramids, including busloads of tourists (who are here en masse to enjoy our balmy November weather). For a mere EGP 45, you could drive your car along the pathway and visit the various exhibits, consulting the exhibition\u2019s app or occasional on-site maps \u2014 or just asking for directions along the way.
