We also have good news on the inflation front as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But before we dive into it, it\u2019s the 200th issue of EnterprisePM<\/strong>. And while not many of you readers may be counting, it means a lot to us that you\u2019ve kept reading us these ten months. We hope to keep you guys updated and entertained in the afternoon for many more to come.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORIES TODAY-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-01\"><\/a> <strong>Abu Qir Fertilizers completed the sale of 10% of its shares for EGP 2.25 bn<\/strong> <strong>to regional, international, and local institutional investors<\/strong>, according to a statement <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/12\/Abu-Kir-10-sale.jpg\">on the bourse today<\/a>. The company\u2019s second offering on the EGX was priced at EGP 17.8 per share. Abu Qir\u2019s shares surged 20% on the news today, closing at EGP 22.11 and giving it a market cap of EGP 27.9 bn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>State privatization program revived:<\/strong> The sale, which follows the IPO of state e-payments giant<a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/23beb734-9f6f-4c55-9143-7c6935ecf804\">e-finance<\/a>, indicates that the long-dormant state privatization program is in full swing. Abu Qir had <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/82f7037f-4711-42cd-a7d1-7f4f6ab1f06e\">pushed back<\/a> the secondary stake sale several times since first announcing it in 2018.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next up is football club Ghazl El Mahalla<\/strong> is also set to make its debut on the EGX in a \u201cmicro-IPO\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/63b2e2c2-100f-46b8-80b7-d94bb2c71f1c\">two weeks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advisors<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> EFG Hermes acted as joint global coordinator and bookrunner on behalf of the selling shareholders: the National Investment Bank, Industrial Development Authority, Al Ahly Capital Holding, and Chemical Industries Holding Company. Renaissance Capital was joint financial advisor and bookrunner. CI Capital and Al Ahly Pharos were also tapped as underwriters on the transaction. <sup><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-02\"><\/a> <strong>Also making a splash in capital markets is the Financial Regulatory Authority greenlighting CI Capital\u2019s bid to acquire 26.21% of Cleopatra Hospitals Group<\/strong>, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/12\/FRA-approves-MCI-Cleo.pdf\">an FRA statement<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2021\/12\/FRA-approves-MCI-Cleo.pdf\">(pdf)<\/a> to the bourse this morning. MCI Capital, the CI Capital subsidiary that\u2019s executing the acquisition, has offered to purchase the shares at EGP 5 apiece. Cleopatra\u2019s shares fell 1.1% to EGP 4.65 at closing time today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who\u2019s selling: <\/strong>Creed Healthcare, which owns 37.9% of CHG through its subsidiary Care Healthcare, has agreed to sell an 8-12% stake in the company from its holdings (126 mn-192 mn shares) to MCI, CHG\u2019s corporate strategy and IR director Hassan Fikry told us <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8a67bda2-2571-4d68-b600-30894ac00789\">yesterday<\/a>. Some 62% of the company\u2019s shares are held by \u201cothers,\u201d according to the company\u2019s investor deck, which notes that key freefloat shareholders include Franklin Templeton Investments, VanEck, Norges Bank, Wasatch Funds, and Consilium Investment Management.MCI will likely acquire the rest of the shares through the EGX.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-03\"><\/a> <strong>Annual urban inflation <\/strong><strong>continued <\/strong><strong>to decline in November, dipping to 5.6% <\/strong>from 6.3% in <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/5c65fac4-689f-4cec-88b1-3eca365624ca\">October<\/a>, as prices of fruits, vegetables, meat and poultry dipped from the month prior, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capmas.gov.eg\/Pages\/Publications.aspx?page_id=5107&Year=23352\">data released by Capmas today<\/a>. On a monthly basis, headline inflation rose ever-so-slightly by 0.1%, following October\u2019s 1.1% rise. The drop was expected, with analysts, including Al Ahly Pharos\u2019 Radwa El Swaify telling us the drop was expected due to the base effect following months of rising prices. .<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interest rates under review next week:<\/strong> The Central Bank of Egypt\u2019s Monetary Policy Committee will hold its final meeting for the year to review interest rates on Thursday, 16 December. This comes six months after Minly closed a USD 3.6 mn seed round co-led by 4DX Ventures, B&Y Venture Partners, and Global Ventures.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Government takes steps to stop robot takeover:<\/strong> Egypt wants to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/b05fcd7c-5834-47e2-8976-6db4202e3dd7\">upskill the labor market<\/a> to stop robots stealing our jobs or in other words,tackle the issue of jobs at risk due to automation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-04\"><\/a> <strong>HAPPENING NOW-<\/strong> <strong>Egypt\u2019s diplomacy is in full swing as<\/strong> <strong>Israeli Alternate Prime Minister Yair Lapid met with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo today<\/strong>, according to an Ittihadiya <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3pEbyed\">statement<\/a>. The pair discussed updates on Egypt\u2019s efforts to rebuild and help with the reconstruction of the Gaza strip. Not noted in the statement are reports in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ynetnews.com\/article\/byd11zprtt\">Israeli press<\/a> that the Israeli FM will return 100 stolen Egyptian antiquities that were confiscated in an attempt to smuggle them into Israel during the visit. Lapid also <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MfaEgypt\/status\/1468902779565522944\">met<\/a> with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lebanon\u2019s Prime Minister Najib Mikati also landed in Cairo today for a one-day visit:<\/strong> El Sisi and Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly also met with Lebanon\u2019s Prime Minister, alongside Foreign Minister Sameh to discuss bilateral cooperation, regional issues, and Lebanon\u2019s current political scene, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3GqlH51\">Ittihadiya statement<\/a>. The visiting PM also met with the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Abu El Gheit at the Cairo headquarters, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3GrkaeW\">Lebanese cabinet statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>She\u2019ll be coming round Hermoz when she comes: <\/strong>The Ever Given is fully loaded and making its way back to the Suez Canal next week, less than nine months after getting unlodged from the passageway, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2021-12-08\/the-ever-given-is-nearing-another-northbound-pass-through-suez?srnd=premium-middle-east&sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a>. The 400-meter-long container carrier <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/7338a482-1d8a-4ede-8eb7-7ff758f0fae2\">reportedly<\/a> agreed to pay the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) USD 540 mn in compensation for its six-day blockage of the vital trade artery in March of this year.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-05\"><\/a> <strong>THE BIG STORIES ABROAD- China is once again front and center of global headlines for all the wrong reasons. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>First up, Fitch has finally declared Evergrande to be in \u201crestricted default\u201d, lowering its rating from \u2018C\u2019 to \u2018RD\u2019 <\/strong>after the property developer failed to meet bond payment deadlines <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e0c1d13c-f6e3-42ef-8c20-75ddf4e7d3be\">earlier this week<\/a>, according to a Fitch Ratings <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fitchratings.com\/research\/corporate-finance\/fitch-downgrades-evergrande-subsidiaries-hengda-tianji-to-restricted-default-09-12-2021\">statement<\/a>. This is the first official recognition of a default by Evergrande, the world's most indebted real estate company. Following claims from the company that it could <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/49595660-7253-4fad-bcdd-eddfa6fba4c7\">fail to meet<\/a> its obligations, Fitch expects that Evergrande bondholders can likely expect to recover no more than 10% of their claims, if anything, in the case of default, the statement added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, the possibility of Evergrande\u2019s default could give way to other defaults from Chinese firms<\/strong> \u2014 which Fitch also downgraded \u2014 such as real estate developer Hengda and Evergrande subsidiary Tianji. <a href=\"https:\/\/asia.nikkei.com\/Business\/Markets\/China-debt-crunch\/Fitch-declares-Evergrande-and-Kaisa-to-be-in-restricted-default\">Nikkei Asia<\/a> has the story.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Then there\u2019s the Winter Olympics, as<\/strong> <strong>China cracks the whip on the US, UK, Australia, and Canada over boycotting the games due to be held in Beijing. <\/strong>Beijing threatened boycotting countries, saying they would \u201cpay the price for their mistaken acts\u201d of political manipulation, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/lifestyle\/sports\/china-says-australia-britain-us-pay-price-wrong-acts-2021-12-09\/\">Reuters<\/a>. The report showed that bn\u2019aires own 3.5% of global household wealth in 2021, up from a little over 2% at the outset of the pandemic in 2020. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/billionaires\/\">Forbes<\/a>\u2019 annual list of bn\u2019aires showed that 2,755 bn\u2019aires had a net worth of USD 13.1 tn this year \u2014 up from USD 8 tn last year. In November, WFP Director David Beasley singled out bn\u2019aires <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/21c8fd4b-6b12-4e67-9bdd-e2f75e4bad0d\">Elon Musk<\/a> and Jeff Bezos to donate a fraction of their wealth to end world hunger.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Visa delves deeper into crypto with a new consulting arm. <\/strong>The world\u2019s largest payment processor has launched an advisory service to help its clients navigate the world of cryptocurrencies, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/currencies\/visa-launches-crypto-advisory-service-financial-institutions-merchants-2021-12-08\/\">Reuters<\/a> reports. Visa said its new practice is aimed at educating financial institutions about crypto, helping retailers attract customers with a crypto offering \u2014 including assets such as NFTs \u2014 and guiding central banks looking to explore digital currencies. The move comes after a global study by Visa showed that nearly 40% of respondents would be likely to switch primary banks to one that offers crypto products. Visa currently allows buying, selling and owning digital currency through its network, and has processed USD 3.5 bn in digital currency transactions through its crypto-linked card schemes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaking of which, BTC mining is soaring \u2014 and so is the BTC hash-rate<\/strong>, rising to its highest rate since May, reports the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/d2adbe2f-e1e1-41bf-9034-5b01fa95f6c5\">Financial Times<\/a>. The BTC hash-rate, which measures how difficult it is to create new coins and is reflected in computing power, rose as miners dedicated more computer resources to minting the digital coin. The energy-intensive process of BTC mining was outlawed in China in May as the Asian country ramped up efforts to slash emissions and produce its own digital currency, which sent miners to the US, Iceland, Norway and Canada, with the US emerging as the world\u2019s biggest hub for minting BTC. Since September, crypto prices have been recovering, as has the capacity to mine the currency. Some US miners have forecast that they would hit record mining levels by the middle of next year as they ramp up production on new-generation equipment.
