The hotels include two in Sahel on the north coast, one in Cairo, and another near the Giza Pyramids, Sawiris said, without disclosing further details on the planned timeline for the hotels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Leading the conversation in the international business press this afternoon:<\/strong> Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s move to formalize the annexation of chunks of Ukrainian territory, despite Russian forces suffering defeats on the frontlines at the same time. Since Dolly made history as the world\u2019s first cloned mammal, several other species have been cloned, including horses, cats, and deer. Most recently, a cloned Arctic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/first-cloned-wolf-is-born-via-a-beagle-xc3rkf6jc\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">wolf was even born to a beagle<\/a> in China.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A clone of your dog will set you back around USD 50k: <\/strong>A team of scientists in South Korea set out to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/08\/04\/science\/beating-hurdles-scientists-clone-a-dog-for-a-first.html\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">clone a dog for the first time<\/a> in 2002. Three years and more than 1k attempts later, Afghan hound Snuppy (Seoul National University puppy) was born to a yellow Labrador retriever surrogate mother. A couple of companies specializing in cloning pets have since emerged, such as ViaGen Pets in Texas, which charges USD 50k for dog cloning and USD 35k for cat cloning, according to their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.viagenpets.com\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why do people do it? <\/strong>Often, cloning is an attempt to soften the grief that comes from losing a pet. The market isn\u2019t restricted to the silly-rich \u2014 some people who can\u2019t easily afford the cost of the procedure are saving up and selling their assets in order to pay for the process. One man <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/01\/i-traded-in-my-car-and-paid-40k-to-clone-my-dog-and-it-was-worth-it\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">sold a prized Andy Warhol<\/a> he had bought years prior and another sold his pickup truck to help pay to clone their dogs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Not the same pup: <\/strong>The clones are not replicas of old pets. They are more like an \u201cidentical twin \u2014 just born at a different time,\u201d Melain Rodriguez, ViaGen\u2019s client service manager, told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2022\/04\/11\/clone-pets-cat-science\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Barbra Streisand was an early adopter: <\/strong>Streisand made two genetic replicas of her coton de tulear Samantha, who has since passed away, she told <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2018\/film\/news\/barbra-streisand-oscars-sexism-in-hollywood-clone-dogs-1202710585\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Variety<\/a>. \u201cThey have different personalities,\u201d Streisand says of the clone pair. \u201cI\u2019m waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have her (Samantha\u2019s) brown eyes and seriousness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>How it works: <\/strong>It\u2019s easiest to clone a pet that\u2019s still alive, using a tissue sample, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-woosuk-hwangs-sooam-biotech-mastered-cloning-2015-8\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Business Insider<\/a>. Scientists then isolate the cells they need from the sample, put them in a growth medium, and a couple weeks later they have the cells they need to proceed. To create embryos, another dog has to \u201cdonate\u201d an egg, which is \u201cenucleated\u201d (the nucleus is removed) to be replaced with the cloned dog\u2019s DNA. The embryos are then implanted into another dog which serves as a surrogate mother \u2014 who does not have to be the same breed as the clone \u2014 and carries the litter of cloned puppies to term, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/03\/06\/opinion\/clone-pet-streisand-dog.html\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some people get their pet\u2019s DNA harvested and kept on ice<\/strong> so they can clone their beloved in the event of their death. Cells can be stored for several years before they\u2019re cloned. \u201cSo you\u2019ve got a puppy now that was from a dog that was alive 25 years ago,\u201d Rodriguez told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2022\/04\/11\/clone-pets-cat-science\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prominent animal advocacy organizations have spoken out against animal cloning.<\/strong> The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) argued that it subjects the animals used in the process to invasive procedures, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.humanesociety.org\/sites\/default\/files\/archive\/assets\/pdfs\/dec_04_cloning_statement.pdf\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">statement<\/a>. The organization also says cloning is unnecessary given the current pet overpopulation problem, which results in mns of dogs being kept in shelters, many of whom face early death by euthanasia. HSUS also argues that the practice reinforces the notion that animals are manufactured commodities. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) points to the fact that the cloning process does not have a 100 percent success rate and not all embryos will be viable \u2014 meaning some animals are subjected to the process only for it to fail and <a href=\"https:\/\/prime.peta.org\/news\/heres-exactly-whats-wrong-with-barbra-streisand-cloning-her-dogs\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">have to be repeated again<\/a>.
