The club has allocated 98 mn shares to the retail component of the IPO and is selling them for EGP 1.02 apiece. As of market close today, Ghazl El Mahalla received bids for 17.6 mn shares.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We have another thoroughly mixed bag in the international business press this<\/strong><strong> afternoon.<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/857fbd33-506f-4429-989a-6482805bfc62\">Financial Times<\/a> is leading its front page with a plan from EU ministers to bar Russian tourists from entering the Schengen area, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/russian-forces-hit-motor-sich-plant-ukraines-zaporizhzhia-region-ria-2022-08-28\/\">Reuters<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/08\/28\/ukraine-on-edge-as-shellfire-resounds-around-zaporizhzhia-nuclear-plant.html\">CNBC<\/a>\u2019s big story is currently an airstrike from Russian forces on workshops in Ukraine\u2019s Zaporizhzhya region, near a nuclear plant.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>HAPPENING NOW- <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Madbouly government is currently holding consultations with representatives from<\/strong><strong> the wood <\/strong><strong>industry on its privatization strategy.<\/strong> The government is holding workshops and consultations with stakeholders from different industries every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday on its privatization plans. Since he was sworn in as minister earlier this month, Samir has been fielding several requests from industry, particularly to enact measures that would help make raw materials more readily available, resolving issues with securing imports, addressing the high cost of industrial lands, and increasing government-provided export subsidies, our sources tell us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How does this square up with industry sentiment earlier this year?<\/strong> Many of the points our sources brought up were also thorns in their side when we polled manufacturers <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/industries\/encourage-local-industry-according-manufacturers\/\">back in June<\/a>. However, our recent conversations indicate that some problems \u2014 particularly those that pertain to licensing and land provision \u2014 have become bigger priorities, while others such as raw material availability, have cropped up more recently.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Raw materials availability is top of mind:<\/strong> Making raw materials available is currently the biggest issue facing manufacturers, Chairman of the Federation of Egyptian Industries\u2019 (FEI) engineering industries division Mohamed El Mohandes and FEI board member Mohamed El Bahi tell Enterprise. Some factories have effectively halted production after having run out of their stockpiles of raw materials, they told us. \u201cEgypt is a raw materials importer, so ensuring the flow of these materials into the country is critical to protect factories from stalling and to allow producers to maintain their trade obligations,\u201d El Mohandes said. Resolving this issue, or at least giving manufacturers visibility on when it will be resolved, is probably the biggest challenge facing the new minister, El Mohandes and El Bahi agree.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A shortage of raw materials, or skyrocketing prices to secure them, has been a significant sore point<\/strong> for industry players over the past several months, particularly following the introduction of import restrictions <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/f1237459-2827-438d-96c3-8fe7a8dce26e\">earlier this year<\/a>. Although President Abdel Fattah El Sisi later announced that production inputs and raw materials would be exempt from the new rules that require importers to get letters of credit, rather than documentary collection, it has remained a problem area for manufacturers across several industries, including <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/6e767d6d-88e7-4420-a3ff-d44586720047\">engineering industries<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/ffe8229b-edb8-487c-ac29-66af689eee1d\">pharma<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/339706b3-b659-4d59-bfac-63561b45eee5\">printing and packaging<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The good news: There may be a breakthrough on that front soon, courtesy of new Central Bank of Egypt Governor Hassan Abdalla<\/strong>, who has been <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/f87bd35b-2c1a-4286-a5ab-628ba462b0c7\">holding meetings<\/a> with cabinet members and senior figures in the banking community, stoking expectations among business leaders that they may be looking for ways to ease the import restrictions that have hobbled everyone from manufacturers to retailers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The next big priority: Tackling red tape and streamlining licensing procedures.<\/strong> Ending an ongoing \u201ccrisis\u201d with handing out industrial licensing is also one of the big issues facing manufacturers today, 10th of Ramadan Investors Association Chairman Samir Aref told Enterprise.
