Alone time, devoid of distractions, can spark joy, serenity, and even make us more creative, science journalist Melinda Wenner Moyer writes for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/08\/04\/well\/mind\/daydreaming-benefits-brain.html\">New York Times<\/a>. \u201cYou\u2019re essentially being the actor, director, screenwriter, and audience of this whole mental performance,\u201d one psychologist said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sometimes giving your mind a license to go down rabbit holes leaves you more stressed<\/strong> if your thought patterns become dominated by work, life, or other responsibilities and sources of anxiety in your life. In that case, psychologists recommend trying to practice mindfulness, during which you focus on the present moment rather than letting your mind go rogue. So the next time you find yourself with a moment to spare, give your mind a break, let it run amok and see where it takes you.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-04\"><\/a> <strong>Graduating to a pay gap:<\/strong> Pay disparity between male and female college graduates in the US appeared as soon as they joined the labor market, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/gender-pay-gap-college-11659968901?mod=hp_lead_pos5\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> analysis of federal data for 2015-2016 graduates showed. The analysis covering 1.7 mn graduates showed average pay for men surpassing that of women three years after graduation in some 75% of 11.3k undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered in 2k universities. Male graduates\u2019 average pay in almost 50% of the programs exceeded those of women by 10% or more. Among examples of early-gender pay disparity were in Georgetown University alumna, where men graduating from undergraduate accounting programs earned an average of USD 155k three years after graduation, approximately a 55% premium over female colleagues. The gap is seen across a range of fields, including those that are classified as male dominant and likewise for fields typically dominated by women. Most degree programs saw higher average earnings for men than those for women.<\/p>\n\t<\/div><!-- .entry-content -->\n\n\t\n<\/article><!-- #post-${ID} -->\n\n\n    <div class=\"tags-section\">\n The editor of the magazine unexpectedly dies of a heart attack and leaves the staff instructions in his will to suspend publication of the magazine following a final issue that is to include his obituary, three stories, and a travel guide. The film portrays the three stories, with each piece taking place in its own time period in Ennui-sur-Blas\u00e9 (a fictional French town, which translates to boredom-on-apathy). The first story, \u201cThe Concrete Masterpiece,\u201d portrays an incarcerated genius modern artist serving a life sentence. The second, \u201cRevisions to a Manifesto,\u201d is inspired by the May 68 student protests in France. \u201cThe Private Dining Room of the Police Commissioner\u201d follows the kidnapping of the police commissioner's son. I studied computer engineering at Ain Shams University and knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur ever since graduating from university.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I noticed there was a gap in the market for conversation AI for Arabic dialects<\/strong> during my time at Microsoft working on digital transformation for several enterprise customers. Conversation AI solutions from Silicon Valley, or the west in general, were ineffective with Arabic because there are so many dialects. I realized this was a niche that western tech companies were not focused on, so we began working on DXwand and joined the Lean Startup Program. We were awarded a grant during the demo day of the accelerator program. Shortly after DXwand signed its first client in 2019, I resigned from Microsoft and fully dedicated myself to the company.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DXwand is a B2B experience management solution for conversations.<\/strong> We started the company to deliver machine learning that provides three main services to our clients. The first is to automate conversations in an intuitive way, whether these are voice conversations via a call center or text conversations on platforms like Facebook or WhatsApp. Secondly, it gives companies real-time insights through dashboards, which gathers information from conversations such as recurring issues customers are facing with a product or service or if customers are inquiring about products that the company does not offer. These insights help companies make decisions that address issues customers are facing with products faster and release products that meet consumer demands.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The final thing we provide is a customer data platform that extracts demographics from conversations.<\/strong> Typically, call centers can only see your number and your name if you provide it, so that\u2019s the information that is stored in their database. We extract further information from conversations with clients and add them to the database: For example if a customer is speaking to a telecom company and mentions that the internet is down and his kids can\u2019t access their online classes, it picks up on that. Then it adds to the database the fact that the customer is a parent so that later, if the company has a new offer that parents would be more interested in, they can look up those customers and proactively reach out to them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our language agnostic conversational AI and digital assistant tool is really our USP.<\/strong> We don't depend on language models. The majority of solutions on the market work on language models that are trained to pick out names and verbs from sentences. We use a language diagnostic approach, which offers deep learning algorithms and model training services that learn from the language and dialect that you provide.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It works with any spoken language as long as there is sufficient data to use for learning.<\/strong> In Egypt alone, we have more than five spoken dialects. A lot of the spoken languages are a mix of languages that are entirely different from the official textbook language and in order to accommodate them the machine has to have the ability to learn. We even uploaded the minion's language from the movie (which is a fully registered language) and it worked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It was not easy to get to this stage.<\/strong> It took us years to reach the level we are at today, but now we can adapt to any changes in language in any country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some of the KPIs I look at consistently are new signups, revenues, and machine learning confidence and recall<\/strong>, which tells me if we\u2019re on the right track or if we need to add more data or different algorithms. I also look at conversations over time. They tell us if people are engaged or disengaged. Revenue vs new revenue is something I also pay attention to as well it lets us know whether we\u2019re penetrating the market or making money off of the same clients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To date, DXwand has raised around USD 2 mn.<\/strong> We recently <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/2d3d6d4b-a3ad-4940-8d94-192632413e46\">raised USD 1 mn in a pre-series A investment round<\/a> led by Huashan Capital. We also had angel investors from Egypt in our recent round. With our new funding, we want to focus on regional expansion and on setting a higher barrier to entry, for competition by accelerating our product development and research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If I had only enough money to do one thing, I would spend it on team growth.<\/strong> Growth in terms of competency, learning, and satisfaction. I also like to play ping pong and spend time with my kids.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I think <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/cbb47824-e06f-4681-b071-23b218f03bcb\">Rabbit<\/a><\/strong><strong> and <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breadfast.com\/\">Breadfast<\/a><\/strong><strong> are two startups that are killing it.<\/strong> What I really found impressive about Rabbit is that they cracked the code in no time. The process was very fast from the moment they received their funding to building an app, to when they began delivering orders, and they always meet their SLA of delivering orders in under 20
