We\u2019ll be back in your inboxes at the appointed hour on Sunday, 17 July.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And the news wants to send us off with a warm goodbye,<\/strong> with very positive plot twists in major talking points at home and abroad\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORIES TODAY-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-01\"><\/a> <strong>#1- Annual urban inflation slowed for the first time since November 2021<\/strong>, recording 13.2% y-o-y in June, down from 13.5% the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/b70644bd-7dfc-4432-9cf7-635290bed657\">previous month<\/a>, according to<a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2022\/7\/CAPMAS-inflation-data-June.pdf\">data<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2022\/7\/CAPMAS-inflation-data-June.pdf\">(pdf)<\/a> released this morning from state statistics agency Capmas. The drop was attributed to a decline in food and beverage prices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Has inflation peaked? <\/strong>Analysts, including from Beltone, CI Capital, and Arqaam had all expected inflation to peak in summer, but had predicted we won\u2019t see a decline until August, with estimates ranging from c.15-18%. That said, the inflation remains well above the Central Bank of Egypt\u2019s target of 7% (\u00b12%).<\/p>\n<p><strong>#2- A last pre-Eid M&A announcement:<\/strong> EGX-listed Paint and Chemical Industries Company (Pachin) received a non-binding acquisition offer from Saybad Industrial Investment for 100% of the company, <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2022\/7\/Pachin-MTO-7-7-22.pdf\">according to a disclosure to the EGX (pdf)<\/a>. Saybad\u2019s offer prices Pachin\u2019s shares between EGP 16 and EGP 16.5 apiece, valuing the company at EGP 396 mn. The Pachin share rose 3.53% at the end of trading today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-02\"><\/a> <strong>Boris Johnson a<\/strong><strong>dmits defeat<\/strong><strong> and resigns: <\/strong>UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has finally stepped down, ending a political crisis over his future that had paralyzed the British government over the past 48 hours. In a televised speech (<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/5mYDyxMDwaw\">watch, runtime 6:27<\/a>) Johnson said that it is \"clearly now the will\" of the Conservative party for there to be a new leader. This comes after a string of scandals plagued his tenure in office, prompting an unprecedented mass resignation of at least 50 members of his government, including Health Secretary Sajid Javid and Treasury chief Rishi Sunak. A delegation of ministers gathered at 10 Downing Street this morning to tell Johnson he has to go. It might really be <\/strong><strong>taught by an online education company. <\/strong>In an attempt to bolster revenues, universities in the US appear to be outsourcing some of their key services, including actually running courses and teaching, to for-profit education companies, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/that-fancy-university-course-it-might-actually-come-from-an-education-company-11657126489?mod=hp_lead_pos5\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> reports. Under these partnerships universities hand education companies, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/2u.com\/\">2U Inc.<\/a> much of the responsibility for recruiting students and delivering instructional materials for courses, especially for non-degree programs. But unlike these other movies, the Boys doesn\u2019t take itself too seriously, and understands its place as pure parody. That said, it doesn\u2019t shy away from such themes as corporate greed and corruption, abuse of power, consumerism and social media on crack (or compound \u201cV\u201d as the show would have it), as well as telling a very charming underdog story. A <a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2022\/6\/DNA-theft-study.pdf\">Boston University study (pdf)<\/a> lists several: people in paternity and fidelity disputes, paparazzi wanting dirt on celebrities, and blackmailers all have motives to surreptitiously acquire someone\u2019s genes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our genes reveal a lot about us:<\/strong> Health conditions, family history and the traits of your future children can all be uncovered via DNA analysis. And technological innovation means that DNA can now be used for reproductive purposes using in-vitro gametogenesis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Madonna has been accused of \u201c<\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/geneticliteracyproject.org\/2016\/02\/19\/madonna-may-suffer-dna-paranoia\/\">DNA paranoia<\/a><\/strong><strong>\u201d for taking precautions to stop people from getting hold of her genes.<\/strong> Back in 2011, the pop star began employing cleaners to sterilize her dressing rooms and remove traces of DNA to prevent theft. She also reportedly uses new toilet seats at every one of her gigs and hired a full team to take care of that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But the motive for paparazzi is clear:<\/strong> Revealing personal information about public figures is big business and there are precedents for \u201cgenetic trophy hunting.\u201d Back in 2002, it was widely reported in the British media that a group of people had plotted to steal Prince Harry\u2019s DNA to verify the identity of his father, with the goal of selling the results of the paternity test to the media.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The tools are more accessible than ever: <\/strong>With the recent rise of at-home DNA testing and people eager to learn if they have any distant relatives (or siblings as shown in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt19704638\/\">Our Father<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/eg-en\/title\/81227735\">Netflix<\/a> documentary), it is easier than ever for people to get their hands on others\u2019 genes. DNA testing kits such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.23andme.com\/en-int\/\">23andMe<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/wirecutter\/out\/link\/20653\/175892\/4\/50363\/?merchant=Walmart\">AncestryDNA<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/wirecutter\/out\/link\/20659\/110196\/4\/50364\/?merchant=FamilyTreeDNA\">FamilyTreeDNA<\/a> can be bought online. Since its launch in 2006, 23andMe has <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.23andme.com\/news\/23andme-turns-16\/#:~:text=Since%20then%2C%20more%20than%2012,to%20new%20insights%20and%20discoveries.\">gathered the DNA of over 12 mn people<\/a>, 80% of which have agreed to have the company share their data with research partners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Authorities can easily get their hands on your DNA: <\/strong>There have been several instances where law enforcement solved decade-old cold cases using DNA testing kits, most prominently, <a href=\"https:\/\/arizonastatelawjournal.org\/2021\/05\/11\/crime-dna-and-family-protecting-genetic-privacy-in-the-world-of-23andme\/\">the 2018-arrest of the \u201cGolden State Killer\u201d<\/a> for a number of murders and rapes that took place in the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s not just your personal information you\u2019re risking: <\/strong>By sharing your DNA, you are also sharing information about your immediate family members and distant relatives, which should require that an individual get their entire family\u2019s consent prior to sharing their DNA, an article in the <a href=\"https:\/\/legaljournal.princeton.edu\/its-not-just-me-its-also-you-how-shared-dna-complicates-consent\/\">Princeton Legal Journal<\/a> argues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But legally, it\u2019s still a gray area: <\/strong>While genetic testing companies promise not to sell your data to other companies, the labs they use make no promises, leaving customers\u2019 DNA vulnerable to theft. The growing accessibility to people\u2019s genes calls for the need for stronger genetic privacy laws to protect people\u2019s privacy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let\u2019s be clear:<\/strong> The average person has a lot less to fear about the safety of their genetic information than a public figure. But how courts respond to the legal ambiguities surrounding high-profile cases will likely go on to influence how we think about genetic privacy and individual rights on a deeper
