The new controls make it a legal requirement for auditors to monitor each developer, in addition to requiring developers to submit semi-annual reports on their projects and activities. The new regulations also require companies to create separate bank accounts for each of their projects, and forbid developers from doing any marketing activity for sales of units before they obtain ministerial approval for the project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The international business press is paying particular attention this afternoon to the fate<\/strong><strong> of European energy markets<\/strong> as they withdraw from Russian gas supplies. A number of European countries, including Germany, Austria, and Italy, are turning to increasing their reliance on coal to secure energy supplies ahead of the winter, after Russia begins to throttle its natural gas exports to the continent. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-06-20\/austria-returns-to-coal-era-in-hedge-against-russian-power-play?sref=mmeFTDW1\">Bloomberg<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/f662a412-9ebc-473a-baca-22de5ff622e2\">Financial Times<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/less-russian-gas-puts-europes-winter-fuel-supply-in-jeopardy-11655725207?mod=hp_lead_pos5\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/06\/20\/ukraine-war-germany-turns-to-coal-as-russia-throttles-gas-supplies.html\">CNBC<\/a> all have more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The upside to all this: Gas exports from Egypt to the EU are in a prime position to fill the<\/strong><strong> Moscow-shaped hole<\/strong> in Europe\u2019s energy market. Egypt, Israel, and the EU signed <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/613a0e7e-2a74-4d1b-8b28-0c9660944559\">last week<\/a> a new nine-year MoU that will see Israel send more gas to Egypt\u2019s LNG facilities before exporting it on tankers to European shores.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"grey-line\">\n<p><strong>HAPPENING NOW-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The House of Representatives is wrapping up its second day of plenary session debate<\/strong><strong> on the proposed FY 2022-2023 state budget<\/strong> as we hit \u201csend\u201d on this afternoon\u2019s issue. England and Italy played in the EURO 2022 final game, while Egypt and Senegal played in this year\u2019s Afcon final. The study used AI to analyze over 400k Twitter and Instagram posts which targeted players and coached participating in the two final matches and concluded that homophobic slurs were the most common, followed by racism, with the majority of the attacks coming from the players\u2019 home country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who bore the brunt of the bullying?<\/strong> From the Afcon final, a substitute from the Egyptian team was the most-abused player, the report says, without naming the player. Former national team coach and manager Carlos Queiroz came in the top-five most abused targets in the Afcon final; his <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/087d0b08-1818-4549-87ed-9001ef73c7ea\">departure from the team<\/a> came shortly thereafter. The report also notes that racist slurs were the second-most common form of online abuse, following homophobic insults, with Black players from England\u2019s team who missed penalties receiving the majority of abusive comments following their final match against Italy. Netflix\u2019s big new movies for the summer: <\/strong>Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller \u2014 a duo that is easy on the eyes \u2014 play inmates in a remote prison that doubles as a research center for a pharma company testing its experimental meds. These meds hone in on certain emotions such as love, happiness, fear, and darkness, sometimes forcing prisoners to experience horrible events in their heads. The movie is quite dystopian and has an overarching sinister feel that is often abruptly interrupted by lighter, more whimsical scenes. We\u2019re not sure how we feel about that element of the movie, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/23171042\/spiderhead-review-netflix-chris-hemsworth\">The Verge<\/a> puts it best, describing it as \u201cjarring tonal whiplash.\u201d The plot sees Teller\u2019s character question the intentions of the pharma company and start to investigate from within the prison, only to discover a conspiracy that the inmates are all pawns in. The film starts out strong, but doesn\u2019t end on quite the same note. Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning programs are increasingly relied upon to predict sports injuries and enhance player performance, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/how-ai-could-revolutionize-sports-trainers-tap-algorithms-to-boost-performance-prevent-injury-11654353916?mod=hp_listc_pos1\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>reports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Many sports injuries can be predicted \u2014 with the right data. <\/strong>Injury can seriously impact an athlete\u2019s physical and mental well-being, as well as their career potential, and is even more common among amateur athletes and young people than among professionals. But many injuries could be prevented \u2014 up to a third of injuries in professional football arise from overuse and could therefore be predicted by algorithms, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-021-00818-1\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Nature<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The use of AI in sports is seeing rapid global market growth:<\/strong> Valued at an estimated USD 1.4 bn in 2020, the market is expected to reach some USD 19.2 bn by 2030, according to a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/artificial-intelligence-in-sports-market-to-reach-19-2-bn-globally-by-2030-at-30-3-cagr-allied-market-research-301508794.html\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Allied Market Research report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So how do the programs work? By collecting lots of data. <\/strong>Positional and biometric <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/science\/biomechanics-science#:~:text=biomechanics%2C%20in%20science%2C%20the%20study,on%20the%20motion%20of%20bodies.\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">data<\/a> gathering is creating hundreds of new metrics to optimize decision-making processes in sports, says <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.deloitte.com\/xe\/en\/insights\/industry\/technology\/technology-media-and-telecom-predictions\/2021\/athlete-data-analytics.html\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Deloitte Insights<\/a>. \u201cThere are athletes that are treating their body like a business, and they\u2019ve started to leverage data and information to better manage themselves,\u201d the WSJ quotes Kitman Labs founder and CEO Stephen Smith as saying. \u201cWe will see way more athletes playing far longer and playing at the highest level far longer as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tracking indicators<\/strong> can measure how players (or balls, or other objects) move around a field or court, using metrics including speed, acceleration, jump height, and lateral motion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biometric indicators<\/strong> \u2014 including pulse rate, blood oxygen levels, sweat rate and sleep rhythms \u2014 can measure players\u2019 physical exertion, where they\u2019re susceptible to injury, and their rest needs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some sports scientists also factor in contextual data <\/strong>\u2014 ranging from a player\u2019s mood, to how much water they\u2019ve drunk or how far they have traveled in a given period, their body mass index, and previous injuries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Companies <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.v7labs.com\/blog\/ai-in-sports\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">already operating<\/a><\/strong><strong> in the market <\/strong>include nutrition coaching app <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodvisor.io\/en\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">FoodVisor<\/a>, which uses machine learning to recognize over 1.2k types of food and estimate its quantity and nutritional value on a plate; <a href=\"https:\/\/zone7.ai\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">AI system Zone7<\/a>, which crunches data from tens of thousands of athletes to analyze changes in body movement and make injury risk forecasts and training suggestions; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skillcorner.com\/#tracking-data\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Skillcorner<\/a>, which tracks football players\u2019 movement and performance; and injury risk analytics provider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kitmanlabs.com\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Kitman Labs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are these programs being used in MENA? Not yet, as far as we can tell. <\/strong>MENA has seen the growth of data analytics in areas including digital fan engagement by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportindustryseries.com\/featured\/sports-data-middle-east-in-demand-industry\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF)<\/a>, performance monitoring of fan services in the region by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/189352\/laliga-tech-plans-to-grow-in-middle-east-with-data-analytics-services.html\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">LaLiga<\/a>, and the rise of Egypt\u2019s own football data analytics startup <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/29d79c25-72a0-4635-ad92-d5958c543fe5\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Arqam FC<\/a>. Programs that predict sports injuries don\u2019t appear to be in use here yet, though.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All the potential applications are still to be explored: <\/strong>\u201cIn the last five or ten years, teams have been capturing huge volumes of data,\u201d data scientist Derek McHugh is quoted by Nature as saying. \u201cThere\u2019s a gap between how much data we\u2019ve been capturing and what\u2019s actually been done with it,\u201d he says. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to fill that gap using machine learning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>But data privacy concerns could put the brakes on widespread adoption: <\/strong>Questions about who actually owns player data \u2014 including sensitive health information \u2014 remain unanswered. Some players are reluctant to have their data collected, citing privacy concerns and the fear that it could impact contract negotiations. And while certain professional sports leagues have put some frameworks in place to partially safeguard player data, the new tech is developing quickly, outpacing attempts to regulate data use, notes
