Al Futtaim has discussed boosting investments in Egypt with several global investors represented by the group, especially in the industrial sector, the statement quoted the chief executive as saying.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE BIG STORY ABROAD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"content-anchor\" id=\"tldr-story-02\"><\/a> <strong>Oil prices eased today after Saudi Arabia indicated it could step up oil<\/strong><strong> production if Russian output dips under sanctions<\/strong>, with international benchmark Brent crude falling 0.8% to USD 115.39 per barrel. The kingdom is \u201caware of the risks and that it is not in their interests to lose control of oil prices,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/cf18ce69-e46a-4802-9058-1340c5a2c94d\">Financial Times<\/a> reports, citing people it says are familiar with the matter. coming out on top after suing Heard for USD 50 mn in damages over a 2018 essay published in The Washington Post, where she said she had become a \u201cpublic figure representing domestic abuse.\u201d A Virginia court ruled that Depp would receive USD 10 mn in compensatory damages for libel and USD 5 mn in punitive damages, while Heard would receive USD 2 mn in compensatory damages for her counter-lawsuit, reports the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/fa0f2232-48d2-4f3d-b987-81d6af67adef\">Financial Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The trial had turned into a media circus across Seaweed is considered particularly sustainable due to it being \u201clow-to-no input because they don\u2019t require feed, freshwater, or fertilizer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Its environmental impact can be seen both under and above water:<\/strong> In addition to absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and contributing to the Earth\u2019s total oxygen production (<a href=\"https:\/\/oceanservice.noaa.gov\/facts\/ocean-oxygen.html\">scientists estimate<\/a> as much as 80% of the world\u2019s oxygen is produced from the ocean), seaweed also devours harmful gasses such as phosphorus and nitrogen. The plant also plays an important role in maintaining healthy aquatic ecosystems, as they \u201cimprove water quality and create habitat for other species,\u201d the NOAA study notes. Seaweed is also helpful in counteracting eutrophication \u2014 the process through which water becomes overly filled with nutrients, giving rise to unwanted species \u2014 by consuming nitrogen and phosphorus from the water and using it as nutrients to grow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s not just about what\u2019s in the air or water. Seaweed is versatile enough that it can be<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/02\/25\/just-eat-hopes-seaweed-lined-boxes-can-help-tackle-plastic-problem.html\">used as a packaging material<\/a><\/strong>, for example, making it a viable alternative to plastic packaging that some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/09\/16\/lego-plans-to-scrap-plastic-bags-and-make-more-bio-bricks.html\">businesses<\/a> are utilizing. The push to move away from relying on single-use plastic and to find ways to address plastic pollution has also seen scientific breakthroughs such as relying on microorganisms to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e61b9ebc-b55b-4555-a9ac-c6192749949c\">help with the plastic recycling process<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are also a handful of <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sciencing.com\/products-made-seaweed-7222937.html\">commercial products<\/a><\/strong><strong> seaweed can be used to produce<\/strong> across several industries. In pharma, for example, \u201ccarrageenan and algins are used in pharmaceuticals as binders, stabilizers, emulsifiers and for creating molds,\u201d and are also among the ingredients used for solid and liquid medications, as well as wound care products. Seaweed also makes its way into several cosmetic products, such as face masks, creams, and shampoos, and is also sometimes used as an organic fertilizer for plants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And the cherry on top: Seaweed farming is relatively simple<\/strong>, which is another reason for the macroalgae\u2019s farming boom. They do not require fresh water, and another benefit is the fact that harvesting the aquatic plants is undemanding. Rhianna Rees, a seaweed researcher and Seaweed Academy coordinator at SAMS Enterprise,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/05\/18\/seaweed-could-be-a-vital-ingredient-in-the-fight-against-climate-change.html\">recently spoke to CNBC<\/a>about the ease associated with farming the macroalgae. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot less industrial than it might come across,\u201d she said. \u201cWhen you think of farming you think of big machinery, you think of mechanical harvesting, and that\u2019s not at all what seaweed farming is about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Considering all these benefits, it\u2019s not surprising that the seaweed industry is growing:<\/strong> The seaweed industry reportedly raked in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/3\/cb5670en\/cb5670en.pdf\">impressive USD 14.7 bn<\/a> in \u201cfirst-sale value\u201d in 2019, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Globally, the sector has been expanding dramatically for decades. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/3\/ca9229en\/ca9229en.pdf\">FAO report<\/a>detailed that seaweed production had surged from \u201c10.6 mn metric tons in 2000 to 32.4 mn metric tons in 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>UK + US are jumping on the wagon:<\/strong> The UK is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cd1n1ygwgwlo\">reportedly upping its efforts<\/a> to harvest the aquatic treasure, including with the recent launch of The Seaweed Academy, the kingdom\u2019s first dedicated seaweed industry facility. The aim of the seaweed facility is to spur the commercialization of the UK\u2019s macroalgae sector and boost the competitiveness of the country\u2019s seaweed products in a global market that is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/3\/cb5670en\/cb5670en.pdf\">dominated by countries in eastern and southeastern Asia<\/a>. The UK government allocated approximately USD 500k for the project. The US is also looking to get in on the seaweed farming game, with the NOAA stating that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fisheries.noaa.gov\/national\/aquaculture\/seaweed-aquaculture\">dozens of farms<\/a> are currently operational in waters off New England, Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. In 2019, Alaskan farmers produced over 112,000 pounds of seaweed, a 200 percent increase over the state\u2019s first commercial harvest in 2017, according to the report. The NOAA dubbed the seaweed industry the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fisheries.noaa.gov\/national\/aquaculture\/seaweed-aquaculture\">\u201cfastest-growing aquaculture sector\u201d<\/a> in the
