The budget deficit is <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e7917560-43b4-4dd1-984a-209a64b16608\">expected to stand at 6.9%<\/a> by the end of FY2021-2022, after the ministry revised upwards its prior forecast of 6.7%, Maait said last week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>#2- Tourism revenues surpassed USD 13 bn in 2021, returning to pre-pandemic levels<\/strong> after having dropped to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/3106a1b0-6cfc-4c04-80c9-8da5fe98049e\">USD 4 bn<\/a> in 2020, Deputy Tourism Minister Ghada Shalaby <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3FQG3U9\">said<\/a>. Revenues eclipsed the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/9dfb2aca-9170-4294-8bfe-e91864b1a1f6\">USD 9 bn<\/a> target set by the ministry earlier last year, as the sector <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/2f6b025d-8ac4-419e-862c-870ce406ae4b\">recovered<\/a> on the back of travel restrictions being lifted worldwide and a subsequent increase in tourist arrivals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HAPPENING NOW- <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism + hotels law up for House discussion:<\/strong> The House of Representatives is discussing in its plenary session today a draft law simplifying licensing procedures for hotels and tourism companies. The bill was <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d3b4aa4e-88a8-4a01-b3cc-f1045c1c7402\">approved last year<\/a> by the Madbouly Cabinet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The draft Ins. Act is also on the agenda again today<\/strong> for a joint legislative and constitutional, planning and budgeting, and SMEs committee. The committee had begun discussing the bill, which would make the Financial Regulatory Authority the primary regulator for the ins. sector and make ins. compulsory for SMEs and freelancers, yesterday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Algerian President and Defense Minister Abdelmadjid Tebboune is due in town for a<\/strong><strong> two-day visit starting today<\/strong>, the Algerian presidency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/AlgerianPresidency\/posts\/298366895658378\">said last night<\/a>. The decentralized nature of these organizations means they are without the influence of any central authority or government, and typically puts each member of the DAO on equal footing, rather than setting up a power-based hierarchical structure. They are public and transparent organizations that do not require legal backing and are governed by rules that cannot be edited without anyone taking notice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The blockchain infrastructure:<\/strong> Usually built on <a href=\"https:\/\/ethereum.org\/en\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Ethereum<\/a>, DAOs are governed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/10\/25\/what-are-daos-what-to-know-about-the-next-big-trend-in-crypto.html\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">smart contracts<\/a> that embed the rules and governance of each DAO in code, eliminating the need for management, bureaucracy, or hierarchy, and allowing them to function autonomously through a consensual protocol. They usually have a funding system that can be used to compensate organization members for their contributions, as well as a structure for investors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are<\/strong><strong> different membership \/ ownership structures<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> The two main <a href=\"https:\/\/ethereum.org\/en\/dao\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">membership structures<\/a> are token-based and share-based memberships, both of which are crowdfunded by issued tokens. Token-based memberships allow anyone who holds tokens to own equity and vote in a given DAO. Governance tokens may be obtained through trading without permissions on a decentralized exchange, bought or earned by working for the DAO. Share-based memberships, on the other hand, allow prospective members to submit a proposal to join the DAO in return for a tribute in the form of tokens or work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s their purpose and benefit? <\/strong>For one, they eliminate whimsical decisions made by CEOs and dodgy book manipulation by accounts. They also allow people who don\u2019t have any foundation of trust (read: strangers on the internet) to work together using a previously-set transparent code that anyone can verify and no one can alter, creating endless potential for global collaboration. DAOs have totally flat structures, rules that can only be changed by collective member votes, and votes that are tallied automatically. Voting structures can be modified on a case-by-case basis, but are usually weighted against what they\u2019ve contributed to the project, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/10\/25\/what-are-daos-what-to-know-about-the-next-big-trend-in-crypto.html\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">CNBC<\/a>. In fact, all services carried out by and within DAOs are handled automatically, removing human discretion and human error from organizational governance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How are they being used?<\/strong> DAOs can be especially useful in setting up charities, freelancer networks, and ventures and grants. DAOs can be used for investment, charity, fundraising, borrowing or buying NFTs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DAOs are part of a trend to decentralize the internet, finance and the future of work<\/strong> and are central to the <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/519da186-071b-4f5a-8fc4-50544543f384\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Web 3.0<\/a> space. In many ways, DAOs \u2014 which promise to decentralize how people organize for business and other interests \u2014 are a core component of Web3. Much like the metaverse and Web3, exactly how DAOs operate is still being formulated (not to mention, regulated).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will DAOs replace traditional companies?<\/strong> Regulatory and legal frameworks for DAOs are still being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jdsupra.com\/legalnews\/defi-and-the-dao-how-the-law-needs-to-2828261\/#:~:text=DeFi%20apps%20require%20%E2%80%9CDAOs%2C%E2%80%9D,in%20amount%20to%20approve%20blocks.\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">formulated<\/a>, making it difficult for even their staunchest supporters to predict their future with any clarity, but one DAO investor and builder told CNBC that they could be the next LLCs. The same investor said that DAOs remain a risky space and warned investors to \u201conly spend what they can afford to lose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The biggest 20 DAOs held upward of USD 6 bn of digital assets last year<\/strong>, according to a 2Q2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/consensys.net\/reports\/defi-report-q2-2021\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">report<\/a> about Ethereum\u2019s ecosystem by ConsenSys. Some of the biggest DAOs include decentralized finance (DeFi) projects like Compound, Uniswap, Bankless, and Gitcoin<\/p>\n<p><strong>DAOs are gaining traction among high net worth individuals and VCs<\/strong>, with bn\u2019aire Mark Cuban <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mcuban\/status\/1399498071873134592?s=20\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">calling them<\/a> \u201cthe ultimate combination of capitalism and progressivism.\u201d In August, <a href=\"https:\/\/syndicate.io\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">Syndicate<\/a>, a community-based investment protocol for DAOs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2021\/08\/31\/a16z-ohanian-snoop-dogg-back-dao-builder-syndicate-in-20m-series-a\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">raised<\/a> USD 20 mn in a Series A round led by VC firm Andreessen Horowitz, securing backing from 150 investors, among them former Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, actor Ashton Kutcher and all-around chameleon Snoop Dogg.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DeFi has renewed interest in DAOs. <\/strong>DeFi, an umbrella term for financial applications in crypto (mainly stablecoins) that is geared towards facilitating peer-to-peer transactions and disrupting financial intermediaries, took off last year in tandem with the rise of crypto (explainers <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/3e978c8f-2d45-4f56-9cc3-ab1116b31e2b\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a6216c48-71b2-4de6-89c1-bd4e1802902e\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">here<\/a> on DeFi). Because DAOs provide a way to conduct secure financial transactions and because their rules are recorded on blockchain, they eliminate the need for third parties in financial transactions, making those transactions simpler to conduct.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DAOs got a bad rap because of the massive failure of a fund called \u201cThe DAO.\u201d <\/strong>Created as a decentralized investment fund in 2016, The DAO was built on blockchain, but was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/2016\/06\/50-million-hack-just-showed-dao-human\/\" style=\"color: rgb(252, 118, 1);\">hacked<\/a> for the equivalent of USD 50 mn worth of Ethereum as a result of coding errors.
